Osun LG Tussle: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment on APC’s Application to Relist

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has adjourned its ruling on the application brought by the APC to relist the Appeal involving the sacked chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after hearing arguments from both the APC, OSSIEC and Action People’s Party (APP) legal representatives.

The sacked chairmen had earlier approached the Appeal Court seeking to relist the case that was previously dismissed by the same court for want of diligent prosecution on the part of the APC. The appellants are requesting the court to reinstate the matter for proper hearing and determination.

The panel, after hearing submissions from both sides, reserved judgment and announced an adjournment to a date yet to be disclosed.

In the submission of the OSSIEC counsel, Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, called the attention of the court to the fact that the court is bound to take judicial notice of its first judgement earlier delivered in January 2025 dismissing the appeal of the applicant

He further argued that Counsel to APC cannot rightly claim that he was incommunicado with his client. He noted that there are further evidences as filed in marked exhibits before the court, on other cases where the same counsel, Muhydeen Adeoye (a.k.a Galadima) was filing briefs for his client in the same court, which showed that they were actually communicating. Therefore, there is no basis to claim that he lost communication with his client.

The 3 man panel led by Justice O.F Omoleye after hearing submissions from both sides, reserved ruling and announced an adjournment to a date yet to be disclosed.

Recall that in February this year, the sacked APC Yes or No chairmen in Osun State violently took over local government secretariats across the state with the backing of security agents, an action which was widely criticized as illegal and violation of due process. The move heightened tensions in the state and drew condemnation from some stakeholders who viewed it as a breach of constitution and legal procedures.

Opesusi Faith Timilehin, a candidate of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, has committed suicide in Lagos State.

The 19-year-old reportedly died on Monday after consuming ‘Push Out’ rat poison due to scoring 190 in the just-released Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) result.

According to Guardian newspaper, Timilehin, who was living with her elder sister in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, was said to have sat for the same examination in 2024, and her last year’s result was better than this year.

An eyewitness explained that the deceased, at her sister’s office, requested palm oil to ease the pain she was going through after taking the poison at home.

“But her sister, who didn’t initially know the cause of the pain, ignored her and later raised an alarm after Timilehin confessed on the way to the hospital that she had taken poison at home,” the source stated

The shocking revelation is that she was given an admission message via her Gmail yesterday, immediately after she was confirmed dead at Kolak Hospital, Odogunyan,” the source added.

DAILY POST reports that UTME is a computer-based examination introduced by JAMB in 1978 for prospective undergraduates in Nigeria.

How I almost ran away during my early days as President — Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that he was so overwhelmed by Nigeria’s economic challenges during his early days in office that he nearly withdrew from the media entirely.

Speaking during a visit to Katsina State over the weekend, Tinubu admitted that the wave of criticism and tough realities of leadership made him consider tuning out from newspapers and broadcasts altogether.

“When we started, it was challenging, and I almost ran away from watching or reading the newspapers,” the president said. “I got discouraged but stayed put on my decisions, believing that the ability of a leader to take decisions at the right time is the hallmark of leadership.”

Tinubu, however, maintained that his administration’s difficult economic decisions are now beginning to yield positive results. “Nigeria is a success, the economy is turning around, it has bent the corner,” he assured.

Meanwhile, the President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, painted a sobering picture of Nigeria’s economic standing, lamenting the country’s declining GDP per capita. Speaking at the 20th anniversary dinner of Chapel Hill Denham in Lagos, Adesina said Nigeria has fallen behind countries like South Korea, which once had comparable economic metrics.

He blamed the downturn on inconsistent economic planning and poor implementation by successive governments, adding that more Nigerians are poorer today than they were at Independence in 1960.
