‎June 12 : Shina Peller Laments Widening Gap Between Leaders and Citizens.

    ‎By Adewale Owoade

‎Prominent stakeholder and Ayedero of Yorubaland, Hon. Shina Peller, has declared that Nigeria’s democracy has failed to deliver meaningful benefits to ordinary citizens, despite more than two decades of democratic governance.

‎In a candid Democracy Day message, Peller criticised the nation’s political leadership, warning that Nigeria is “building a house of cards” by neglecting the economic hardship and insecurity confronting millions of citizens.

‎Departing from the usual celebratory tone that characterises June 12 commemorations, the former lawmaker said he would not engage in what he described as “empty, sugar-coated political rhetoric.”

‎According to him, while Nigeria has established the procedural framework of democracy, it has largely failed to provide its promised dividends to the people.

‎”Let us be brutally honest with ourselves: We are practising a democracy, but we are yet to deliver its dividends to the ordinary Nigerian,” Peller said.

‎He noted that the growing gap between the political elite and the masses threatens the true essence of June 12, a struggle that symbolised justice, freedom and the will of the people.

‎Peller argued that the ideals of the historic democratic movement are being undermined by widespread poverty, unemployment and systemic hardship.

‎Addressing political officeholders, he urged leaders at all levels to regard governance as a sacred public trust rather than a personal achievement.

‎He warned that leaders cannot afford to remain detached from the realities facing citizens while hunger, insecurity and economic uncertainty continue to worsen.

‎The Ayedero of Yorubaland also challenged Nigerians to play a more active role in strengthening democratic institutions.

‎He urged citizens not to treat democracy as a four-year voting exercise, but as a continuous process that requires vigilance, participation and accountability.

‎Peller further cautioned against vote-buying and identity-based politics, saying citizens who exchange their votes for temporary gains or allow ethnic and religious sentiments to influence their choices contribute to the nation’s underdevelopment.

‎Despite his criticism of the current state of affairs, he expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, citing the resilience, creativity and potential of the country’s youth.

‎To reposition the nation, Peller advocated a three-pronged approach centred on institutional accountability, economic inclusion and national unity founded on justice and fairness.

‎He also encouraged young Nigerians to channel their frustrations into constructive civic and political engagement rather than apathy.

‎Peller called on leaders across all levels of government to ensure that the significance of June 12 goes beyond annual celebrations by taking deliberate actions that improve the lives of citizens.

‎According to him, democracy must be experienced daily through good governance, justice and economic opportunity, rather than merely celebrated as a slogan once a year.

Breaking: OmoBarca Joins NDC, Received by Party Leader Sen. Seriake Dickson

Flowerbud News/ Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, (OmoBarca), has formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a significant addition to the party’s expanding political base ahead of the 2027 general elections.

OmoBarca, a prominent grassroots politician and philanthropist from Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency in Lagos State, was officially received into the party by its National Leader, Sen. Seriake Dickson, during a ceremony held in Abuja. The event, attended by party stakeholders, supporters, and political allies, signals the NDC’s growing appeal among emerging political actors and community leaders across the country.

Speaking at the reception, Senator Dickson described OmoBarca as a dynamic and people oriented leader whose entry into the party aligns with the NDC’s vision of building a broad-based political movement anchored on inclusivity, service, and grassroots development.

“OmoBarca represents the kind of leadership we are encouraging one that is rooted in the people, understands their needs, and is committed to delivering tangible results,” Dickson said. “The NDC is open to individuals who are ready to contribute meaningfully to national development, and we are confident that he will strengthen our structures, particularly in Lagos State.”

OmoBarca’s defection comes at a time of intense political realignment, as politicians and stakeholders reposition ahead of the next electoral cycle. His move is widely seen as a strategic step that could reshape political dynamics within Ajeromi Ifelodun and beyond, given his growing popularity and influence among youths and grassroots communities.

In his remarks, OmoBarca expressed appreciation to the NDC leadership for the warm reception and reiterated his commitment to the party’s ideals. He noted that his decision to join the NDC was informed by its policy-driven approach and its emphasis on people centred governance.

“I am joining the NDC because I believe in its vision for a better Nigeria one that prioritises the welfare of the people, empowers communities, and promotes accountability in leadership,” he said. “This is not just a political move; it is a commitment to serve my people more effectively and to contribute to building a stronger nation.”

He also highlighted his ongoing grassroots initiative, the Team Legit Movement, which promotes unity, empowerment, and development within Ajeromi Ifelodun, popularly known as Ajegunle. According to him, the movement will now align with the broader objectives of the NDC to deepen political engagement and deliver impactful programmes at the community level.

Supporters who accompanied OmoBarca to the event described his entry into the NDC as a turning point for the constituency. Many expressed optimism that his presence in the party would energise local structures and attract more young people into active political participation.

Political observers note that OmoBarca’s defection reflects a broader trend of rising grassroots politicians seeking platforms that offer greater visibility and organisational support. With the NDC positioning itself as an alternative force in Nigeria’s political landscape, the inclusion of figures like OmoBarca is expected to enhance its outreach and electoral prospects.

The NDC has, in recent weeks, witnessed a surge in membership following the high profile entry of key national figures, further solidifying its status as a major player in opposition politics. OmoBarca’s addition reinforces the party’s strategy of combining national leadership with strong local representation.

Analysts also point to the strategic importance of Lagos State in national elections, noting that the consolidation of credible candidates at the constituency level could play a critical role in shaping electoral outcomes. In this context, OmoBarca’s growing influence in Ajeromi Ifelodun positions him as a key asset for the party.

As preparations for 2027 intensify, OmoBarca has pledged to continue engaging with constituents, expanding his outreach, and promoting policies that address pressing socio-economic challenges. He emphasised that his political ambition is driven by a desire to improve lives and create sustainable opportunities for the people.

“The journey has begun, and we are building a movement that is inclusive, forward-looking, and committed to real change,” he said. “Together, we will work towards a future that reflects the hopes and aspirations of our people.”

With his official entry into the NDC, OmoBarca’s political trajectory enters a new phase one that could significantly influence both local and national politics as the countdown to the 2027 general elections continues.

Ndarani SAN picks APC nomination form, pledges free education, infrastructure for Niger South

    By Mohammed Baba Busu

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mohammed Ndarani Mohammed, on Wednesday purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress to contest the Niger South Senatorial seat in the 2027 election in Niger State.

Speaking with journalists shortly after obtaining the forms at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Ndarani said his decision to join the race followed persistent appeals from youths, community leaders and stakeholders across the Niger South senatorial district.

The legal luminary said the appeals culminated in a delegation of leaders visiting the palace of the Etsu Nupe to request that he accept the call to contest the seat.

According to him, the overwhelming support from his people made it difficult for him to decline the request.

Ndarani who is holding the traditional titles of Hukunchi Nupe, Hukunchi Kasan Hausaland, Waziri Alkali Doko and Ndaiji Kusogi Majin Dodo said,
“The major reason why I entered the race for the Niger South senatorial seat is the clarion call from my people, especially the youths and top community leaders who urged me to contest.

“They even went to the palace of the Etsu Nupe to demand that I should be invited to join the race.

“It is a call that I cannot distance myself from because throughout my life I have been committed to service to humanity,” he said.

Ndarani said he considered the senatorial bid another avenue to deepen his commitment to public service and contribute to the development of Niger South.

The legal ICON said education would be his top priority if elected, adding that he would pursue policies that would guarantee access to free education across the district.

According to him, education remains the foundation for sustainable development in any society.

“Education is light. Once a community embraces education, it gains an edge in development socially, politically and economically,” he said.

The Senior Advocate also identified the revitalisation of the Baro Port and development of the Bida Basin as key economic priorities.

He said developing the two resources would stimulate economic activities and create employment opportunities for youths in the senatorial district.

Ndarani added that his development blueprint for Niger South was contained in a 12-point agenda aimed at improving living standards in the area.

He also pledged to sponsor bills at the National Assembly to address infrastructural challenges, particularly the rehabilitation of major federal highways linking communities in the district.

The aspirant identified roads such as the Lambata–Lapai-Bida and Bida-Nupeko-Patigi road as well as the Bida–Jebba corridor as critical routes requiring urgent federal intervention.

According to him, the roads fall under Trunk A roads on the Exclusive Legislative list of the constitution, making them the responsibility of the Federal Government.

Ndarani said his legal background as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria would give him an advantage in lawmaking and policy formulation at the National Assembly.

“With my understanding of the constitution and legislative processes, I will be able to sponsor bills and motions that will bring development to Niger South,” the legal luminary added.

He expressed confidence that the leadership of the APC would conduct free, fair and transparent primaries.

Ndarani also expressed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Gov. Mohammed Umaru-Bago to ensure credible party processes.

On the issue of the proposed 13 per cent derivation for hydroelectric power generating states, the aspirant said he had previously initiated legal action to advance the interest of Niger State.

According to him, he personally filed a suit at the Supreme Court seeking constitutional recognition for Niger State to benefit from electricity generation derivation.

He expressed optimism that with the support of the people, Niger South would witness accelerated development and economic growth.

The ceremony underscored the importance of recognizing excellence and inspiring a culture of service, leadership, and national development.

Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima’s journey to national recognition is rooted in a compelling story of perseverance. Born on August 18, 1983, into the family of Late Chief and Mrs. Francis Nkemodum Atumah of Okwu Community in Olokoro, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, his early life was shaped by modest circumstances.

Though originally from Abia State, he was born and raised in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State—an environment known for its vibrancy but also its socio-economic challenges. Growing up in this setting instilled in him a strong survival instinct and a deep understanding of grassroots realities.

His educational journey began at Ire-Akari Nursery and Primary School in Ajegunle, followed by Newland Secondary School, Tolu Complex, Lagos, where he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate in 2003.
Despite demonstrating academic promise, financial constraints prevented him from pursuing tertiary education after successfully sitting for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination.

Life presented significant challenges at a young age. As a teenager, Chima engaged in street hawking, selling sachet water and snacks to support his family. The loss of his mother at the age of 14 further deepened his struggles but also strengthened his resolve to succeed.

Determined to rise above his circumstances, he took on various menial jobs, including working as a factory employee at OAK Natural Waters in the Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Area. His diligence quickly earned him recognition and a salary increase. Alongside this, he ventured into small-scale businesses such as selling recharge cards and food items, displaying early signs of entrepreneurial ingenuity.
A turning point in his life came in 2007 when his uncle, Mr. Nwachukwu Osondu, introduced him to the clearing and forwarding business. Under mentorship, Chima quickly mastered the trade, demonstrating exceptional discipline and business acumen.

This experience laid the foundation for what would later become a thriving enterprise. Today, he is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CHIMFRANCEE Ventures, a licensed customs-certified freight forwarding and logistics company.

With over 15 years of experience, CHIMFRANCEE Ventures has grown into a reputable brand within Nigeria’s logistics sector, providing services in port handling, freight forwarding, transportation, and maritime consultancy. The company serves corporate organizations, government agencies, and private clients across Nigeria and beyond.

Beyond logistics, OmoBarca has diversified his investments into multiple sectors and has undertaken several international professional courses in freight forwarding, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

Despite his success, Hon. Chima has remained deeply committed to giving back to society. His philanthropic efforts are largely focused on Ajegunle and surrounding communities, where he continues to make meaningful interventions.

His initiatives include providing financial support to struggling families to establish small businesses, awarding scholarships to underprivileged children, creating employment opportunities for youths, and offering food and shelter to vulnerable individuals.

In a remarkable display of interfaith support, he has sponsored over 30 Muslims for the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and more than 40 Christians on pilgrimage to Jerusalem, reflecting his inclusive approach to humanitarian service.

Receiving the Hero of Our Time Award marks a significant milestone in OmoBarca’s journey. It serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence, service, and community development.

Supporters and well-wishers who accompanied him to the ceremony included Elder Charles Ejimadu, Princess Brenda Ifeoma Ngoladi (MD of DailyBlastNG), Hon. Uchechukwu Esomonu, Hon. Maduabum Obinna Francis, and CSO Iyeli Odoko—individuals who have been part of his support system and shared in celebrating the honour.

For many observers, Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima’s story is not just one of personal success but a powerful narrative of hope. From the streets of Ajegunle to the stage of national recognition, his journey exemplifies how determination, faith, and hard work can transform adversity into opportunity.

As he continues to expand his business empire and deepen his philanthropic footprint, OmoBarca remains a beacon of inspiration to young Nigerians, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

His guiding principle, “God First,” continues to define his path—one marked by resilience, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
