Abuja (Flowerbudnews): The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has declared the NESTLE infant food formula on sale in Nigeria safe for consumption.
NAFDAC Director General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye who gave the assurance in a press statement, said that the clarification became necessary due to recent public concerns over the voluntary global recall in over 50 countries by Nestlé UK of specific batches of its SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula.
The infant food were recalled due to the potential presence of cereulide, a toxin, in the batches concerned.
Prof. Adeyeye reassured ”the public, healthcare professionals, relevant stakeholders particularly parents, guardians and caregivers, that all Nestlé Infant Formulae currently approved for marketing in Nigeria are safe for consumption and are not part of the recall.”

”The recall in the affected countries is due to the potential presence of cereulide in the UK batches, a toxin, which can trigger nausea and vomiting when consumed,” She disclosed, adding:
.
Cereulide is an extremely heat-resistant toxin produced by certain strains of the bacterium Bacillus cereus.
NAFDAC confirms that:

No.: B1-2781NAFDAC has verified and reiterates that the SMA and NAN range of infant formulae produced for the Nigerian market are not part of the affected batches involved in the voluntary and precautionary recall in other countries.
”This alert has been issued as a precautionary measure in the interest of public health, consistent with NAFDAC’s statutory responsibility to keep Nigerians duly informed of emerging global food safety concerns, even in circumstances where the likelihood of local exposure remains minimal,” Prof. Adeyeye stated.
NAFDAC ”continues to exercise utmost vigilance, recognizing that the risks associated with unauthorized importation, online transactions, or personal carriage of such products during international travel cannot be entirely excluded,” She stressed.
”The Agency continues to exercise strict regulatory oversight, including product registration, routine surveillance, and post-market monitoring, to ensure that all food products—especially infant nutrition products—meet approved safety, quality, and labeling standards,” Prof. Adeyeye stated.
She assured that ”NAFDAC remains fully committed to safeguarding the health of Nigerians, particularly infants and vulnerable populations. The Agency will not hesitate to take prompt regulatory action should any product be found to pose a risk to public health.’:

Abuja (FLOWERBUDNEWS): The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour recalled by the French Authority (Rappel Conso of France) did not originate from Nigeria and was never registered by the Agency
NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, who gave the clarification in a press release on Sunday disclosed that the product was recalled due to the presence of undeclared allergens.
The specific allergens, Prof Adeyeye said, were milk and eggs, ”which may pose significant health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.”
The NAFDAC Boss disclosed that since the Agency became aware of the recall of unwholesome indomie, it undertaken some proactive measures, which included increased vigilance actions to guard against the possible entry of the recalled product into Nigeria.
Prof. Adeyeye said that, as a responsive regulator, ”surveillance has been directed across all zones and states, adding that all NAFDAC zonal directors and state coordinators have been mandated to mop up the product if found within their jurisdictions.
”The public is hereby informed that the Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour in question is not registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for sale in Nigeria,” Prof. Adeyeye stated.
Prof. Adeyeye declared further;
”It is important to note that noodles are listed on the Import Prohibition List of the Federal Government of Nigeria, meaning their importation into the country is not allowed.
” This significantly reduces the likelihood of the affected product entering the Nigerian market.
”Further, the Indomie instant noodles products (and other brands of noodles) registered by NAFDAC for sale in the Nigerian market are manufactured locally in Nigeria and are only granted NAFDAC registration status following a strict regulatory regime covering all aspects of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
”The Ports Inspection Directorate (PID) is also on heightened alert to guard against the importation of the implicated product into Nigeria,”
She strongly advised onsumers ”to exercise caution, discard the recalled product if found, and report any suspicion of its sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or call 0800-162-3322.”
Prof. Adeyeye also urged the public to ensure that ”Adverse events or side effects related to consumption should be reported via NAFDAC’s E-reporting platforms available on www.nafdac.gov.ng.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, stated that the destruction forms part of the Agency’s sustained efforts to prevent the re-entry of dangerous and unwholesome products into circulation.
She called on religious and community leaders, health practitioners, and all Nigerians to educate their families and communities on the dangers of patronising quacks and unauthorised medicine and food dealers.
She emphasised that collective action is essential to safeguarding public health and safety. (Flowerbudnews)

– In Aba alone, NAFDAC raided over 240 shops turned factories where the harmful products were being produced and marketed,” the NAFDAC Boss disclosed.
– Prof. Adeyeye, the NAFDAC Boss, now fondly called – Nigeria’s Iron Lady, disclosed that the Cemetery market in Aba ”is popular, dreaded and is, hitherto, the safe haven for the largest cartel ring for the manufacture of fake wines and beverages in Africa.”

For the teeming traders at the popular Eziukwu Market in Aba, Abia State, Monday, December 16, 2024 began like just another day. The sun rising peacefully and shining, its glow beaming down the buslling market. The usual huzzle and buzzle of the day was gathering momentum.
Little did any trader envisage that a looming nemesis was about to descend. A nemesis coming head-on against embedded evil, either-to thought untouchable, uncombatable, a no go area.
(NAFDAC Operatives on duty)
Suddenly, operatives of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), acting on firm directives from their Generalismo, Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, back at the Headquarters in Abuja, swooped on the unsuspecting traders.
Backed and Fortified with full force by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the NAFDAC operatives sternly and methodically seized and confiscated dangerous, counterfeited, fake and adulterated medicines, cosmetics and related substances.
Operating swiftly and firmly, the NAFDAC operatives shook Eziukwu Market. They confiscated various expired and fake products worth about N5 Billion during the operation which lasted two days – December 16 and 17, 2024 in Aba.
Tagged ”Operation Clean up Aba, NAFDAC
sealled the Cemetery Market, the Second Time in Two Years in the bold move to safeguard public health,. According to security sources, the Cemetery market in Aba was regarded as the most dreaded haven of wines and beverages counterfeiters.
(NAFDAC DG in a tough look, warns counterfeiters – No place to hide for agents of death)
Prof. Adeyeye, the NAFDAC Boss, now fondly called – Nigeria’s Iron Lady, disclosed that ”the Cemetery market is popular, dreaded and is, hitherto, the safe haven for the largest cartel ring for the manufacture of fake wines and beverages in Africa.”
(Prof. Adeyeye radiating happiness at the strings of NAFDAC operational successes against fake drug peddlers, etc)
Prof. Adeyeye said that the decisive enforcement operation was conducted on the Cemetery market as a crucial move to curb the circulation of fake and substandard wine and beverages in Nigeria.
The NAFDAC Boss noted that the December 2024 action ”is the most audacious since the history of the market with specific zones barricaded with iron welding and access gates locked”.
Commenting on the successful operation then, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC South -East Director, had described the Aba market as a hub for counterfeit and substandard products, and expressed dismay at then continued illegal activities, despite a previous undertaking signed by market leaders in December 2023 to expose counterfeiters.
The successful enforcement operation in Aba was a prelude to similarly tough and decisive ones undertaken by NAFDAC operatives in Onitsha, in Anambra State and Idumota in Lagos.
Around the same time, NAFDAC again successfully smashed an illegal factory producing unregistered cosmetic products in Iba area of Lagos. This followed Prof. Adeyeye’s Stern directive to NAFDAC offices nationwide to increase the tempo of the Agency’s battle against counterfeiters and adulterators of regulated products to safeguard public health.
The increased successes in Lagos was attributed also to improved and extensive surveillance intelligence efforts by operatives of the Agency,
While the heat was on. NAFDAC again struck in Abuja, sealing a Chinese supermarket for allegedly selling goods labelled in Chinese language without proper notification, among other infractions.
Around the same time, the Agency recorded another major success, shutting rice shops resulting in seizure of N5 billion counterfeit products in Nasarawa and Abuja.
In the Nasarawa and Abuja enforcement operations, NAFDAC shut down eight rice shops and a warehouse in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The operation, which also extended to Wuse and Garki markets in Abuja, led to the seizure of over 1,600 bags of counterfeit rice valued at approximately N5 billion.
Officials uncovered counterfeit rice repackaged in branded bags, including popular names like Big Bull, Royal Stallion, and Tomato Aposo, designed to deceive consumers.
During the enforcement operation, led by Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, Director of the FCT Directorate of NAFDAC, at the Karu facility, empty branded rice bags were also discovered.
Commenting further on the highly successful major Aba, Onitsha and Lagos operations, Prof. Adeyeye said that the operation, which was carried out in conjunction with a large contingent of the military, DSS and Nigeria Police personnel in a rare display of inter-agency cooperation, was a follow up to a similar raid enforced in December 2023.
‘:Some of the nefarious activities of the counterfeiters included the manufacturing of all kinds of adulterated products especially different kinds of wine from a wide variety of brands.
The faked products ranged from Seaman Schnapps, Henessy, Four Cousins Carlo Rossi, Jenney, Chelsea London Dry Gin, Schnapp Dry Gin, McDowells and Black Labels Gordons.
(NAFDAC Boss, the indefatigable, incorruptible)
Other counterfeited products were; Martell, Campari, Smirnoff ice, Eva Non-Alcoholic Drink, Evra Non-Alcoholic Drink, Cartel among others.
”As a consequence of the extensive operation, the agency raided over 240 shops turned factories where the harmful products were being produced and marketed,” the NAFDAC Boss disclosed.
”The shops turned factories are very filthy, using water from very unhygienic sources, harmful chemicals, saccharin, colouring, dirty recycled bottles and cloned packaging materials of other brands,” Prof. Adeyeye narrated.
”The adulteration of alcoholic beverages by criminal elements in the country is done by mixing of cheaper sources of sugar and starch besides grapes or fruit, among other harmful chemicals unsuitable for human consumption,” She stated.
Prof. Adeyeye stated further that over 1500 cartons of the fake and substandard products were destroyed during the operation.
”The street value of the confiscated and destroyed fake products in 2023 is estimated at over seven hundred and fifty million naira only. (N750,000,000),” She said, adding, however, that the estimated value of products mopped up during the December 16, 2024, operation is five billion naira.
(NAFDAC Operatives in action, often risking their lives to safeguard the health of Nigerians)
‘:The products being revalidated and mopped up included: Soft and carbonated drinks such as Fanta, Coca ColaSchweppes, Lacasera, Sprite, Hollandia Yoghurt, Super Commando Energy Drink, Feyrouz and Amstel Malta.
”Aside from drinks, notable fake home use beverages such as: Peak Sachet Milk, Cowbell Sachet Milk, Peak Chocolate Drink, Miksi Sachet Milk, Cadbury Chocolate Drink and Ovaltine adulterated versions,” Prof. Adeyeye disclosed.
Prior to the evacuation of the products by NAFDAC, they were being produced in the market and neatly packaged and sold to unsuspecting consumers, the NAFDAC Boss said.
Prof. Adeyeye had also, commended Governor Alex otti for his support saying;
”NAFDAC management appreciates the support from the Government of Abia state led by His Excellency Governor Alex Otti for his unwavering support for this project OPERATION CLEAN UP ABA”.
The Mayor of Aba south and the interim management committee of the market and other stakeholders have been working assiduously with NAFDAC on the project leading to another discovery of three major warehouses stockpiling expired HOLLANDIA YOGHURT for revalidation on the 22nd of January 2025, She had disclosed.
”NAFDAC wishes to assure the public of her determination to safeguard the health of the nation and enjoins the general public to report any suspected fake and substandard regulated product to the nearest NAFDAC office,” Prof. Adeyeye stressed.
commentator on social media (X) simply identified as Bamiji, had commended the NAFDAC efforts, urging it to always publicize the names of culprits apprehended.

He wrote:
‘:Can you (NAFDAC) pls be posting the full info of those culprits like EFCC is doing? Including their snapshot. This is getting too much.
‘:We need to let them and their family know the gravity of what they are doing.
I mean a lot of lives are endangered from such consumption.”
After the dust has settled in all the theatre of NAFDAC enforcement operations, Prof. Adeyeye declared that over 2500 traders with 3500 shops who have come forward for necessary regulatory procedure and paid the investigative charges have resumed their normal activity in Ogbogwu market. There is unconditional opening of shops.
She said that NAFDAC would continue to ensure that all medical products – medicines, vaccines, medical devices and others being used in Nigeria are of good quality, safe, and efficacious.
‘:We will continue to provide assurances that these commodities are well monitored to avoid the deaths of pregnant women, children, and the vulnerable.
”Through this, we will be improving the quality of life and life expectancy of the citizenry, while reducing the incidence of untimely deaths of adults living with chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes.
‘:We wish to assure the public that NAFDAC will continue to work within the purview of her mandate. NA FDAC: Safeguarding the Health of the Nation (FLOWERBUDNEWS)

The International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) is a select body comprising leading regulatory authorities and the pharmaceutical industry.
It is dedicated to advancing the scientific and technical principles of pharmaceutical development. Through the development of harmonised technical guidelines, the ICH safeguards public health by ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines worldwide.
NAFDAC’s journey toward full ICH membership commenced in the last quarter of 2022, when the Director General was advised to apply for Observership status.
Following the submission and approval of the application, NAFDAC was invited to p QAarticipate in the 2023 ICH meeting in Vancouver, Canada, where the Agency delivered a formal presentation as part of the evaluation process.
NAFDAC was subsequently granted Observership and provided with a set of membership requirements.Over the next two years, the Agency undertook a series of capacity-building activities, including training on multiple ICH guidelines to demonstrate effective implementation, as well as active participation in Expert Working Groups.
These steps formed the foundation of the rigorous membership pathway. The Agency fulfilled the necessary requirements in April 2025 following the successful international workshop on ICH M13A (Bioequivalence), during which NAFDAC convened stakeholders in Lagos—including manufacturers—and engaged virtually with Heads of regional regulatory agencies.
Our methodical and structured approach to meeting the criteria was central to this achievement. In addition, the support received from Northeastern University, Boston, USA, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the training programs significantly contributed to the Agency’s attainment of ICH membership status.
This pronouncement was made by the Assembly of the International Council for Harmonisation t at the in- person meeting which took place on 18-19 November 2025 in Singapore.
The official announcement was later made through a Press Release by the ICH on 26th November 2025 on their website – https://ich.org/.

it means better access to high-quality medical products. For our pharmaceutical manufacturers, it opens the door to improved competitiveness and greater confidence in Nigerian-made products at home and abroad.
There are 194 regulatory agencies globally, and Nigeria is now the 24th among the select group of 25 national regulatory authorities (NRAs) worldwide currently committed to implementing globally harmonised, science-based regulatory standards through ICH membership.
To be part of the 25 NRAs is significant and for our country, it represents a major step forward in strengthening the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines available to our population.

Abuja (Flowerbudnews): The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye has enjoined Nigerians to give maximum support to the Agency’s efforts to enforce the ban on peddling of alcohol in small sachets.
Prof. Adeyeye warned that a nation, where children had unfettered access and comsume alcohol is sitting on a keg of gunpowder, adding that such children eventually grow from alcohol to hard drug consumption.
The NAFDAC Boss gave the admonition while answering questions from newsmen during the press briefing held to announce the commencement of enforcement of the ban from December.
Prof. Adeyeye recalled that the Senate had recently approved the ban in the national interest, and also directed NAFDAC to enforce it nationwide to enhance security and protect children against drug addictions.
‘The ban on sachet alcohol is about national security and welfare,” Prof. Adeyeye stressed, adding that a workforce addicted to alcohol can never build a nation, but would become materials for unscrupulous people to deploy to fuel banditry, kidnappings and other deadly crimes
”Banditry, kidnappings (etc), does not start in one day ” the NAFDAC DG stated, adding that the known fact is that ”kidnapping, banditry are sustained by hard drug,,” and other substance abuse, including alcohol.
Prof. Adeyeye, who has been christened – the Nation’s Iron Lady,” vowed to implement and enforce the ban on sachet alcohol with the full backing of the federal government, the National Assembly, and especially, with support from the Office of the National Security Adviser ( ONSA).
”Enforcement will be aggressive and effective,” She assured, warning that ”NAFDAC of yesterday is not NAFDAC of today” as it would do all that was necessary to effect the ban across the country.
Prof. Adeyeye disclosed that Task Forces for effective enforcement were already established in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), adding that the force included all relevant stakeholders, especially, security operatives etc.
When asked about possible job loss that stopping production of alcohol in small sachets might cause. Prof. Adeyeye warned Nigerians against priotising profit over the nation’s security and bringing up future generations of responsible citizens.
”Which one is better, a nation that is addicted to drugs from sachet alcohol,” or a nation of responsible citizens, working to build their country into a prosperous, secure and safe nation, the NAFDAC Boss declared.
Prof. Adeyeye however, disclosed that, to avoid any economic loss for the producers, NAFDAC, in conjunction with other relevant stakeholders, had previously granted the producers of alcohol in small sachets several years moratorium to migrate such lines of production into packaging other permissible categories. The Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye has decried misuse and overuse of Antimicrobials in the treatment of infections in the country, leading to life-endangering resistance to medications.
Prof Adeyeye called for collaborative effort by critical stakeholders to jointly fight the problem of Antimicrobial Resistance in the Nigeria medical ecosystem.

Manager, Regulatory Affairs and Compliance, Zartech Limited, at the 2025 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week in Lagos.)
The NAFDAC Boss, who was speaking at the 2025 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) commemoration in Lagos, noted that
while antimicrobials remain indispensable tools for treating infections, their misuse and overuse had accelerated the rise of resistance—compromising our ability to treat even common diseases.
Prof Adeyeye who was represented by her Special Assistant, Dr Gbenga Fajemirokun, avowed that the health of humans, animals, and our environment is inseparably linked, adding that stakeholders should reaffirm their collective commitment to addressing one of the most urgent and silent public health threats of our time—Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
She pointed out that the theme for this year, “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future,” is a powerful call to action, adding that ‘it reminds us that the fight against AMR extends beyond hospitals and pharmacies; it also begins on our farms, in our veterinary clinics, and across our food production systems.

”The choices we make today—both in human and animal health—will determine the health security of our nation for generations to come.’
In human health, the NAFDAC boss warned that AMR leads to treatment failures, prolonged illness, higher mortality rates, and increased risks during medical procedures.
In animal health and agriculture, she maintained that the indiscriminate use of antimicrobials for growth promotion, routine disease prevention, or unregulated application in aquaculture and crop farming has created a breeding ground for resistant pathogens.
According to the DG, these resistant bacteria can spread to humans through the food we consume, water sources, and direct contact with animals. ‘In effect, resistance anywhere is a threat everywhere.’
To protect our shared future, Prof Adeyeye said we must Act Now—by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, enforcing biosecurity, and encouraging good animal husbandry and responsible antimicrobial use.
As Nigeria’s regulatory authority for food, human and animal drugs, and allied products, she emphasised the pivotal role that NAFDAC plays in safeguarding public health, adding that the Agency’s strategy to combat AMR is rooted in the One Health approach and implemented through a comprehensive, multi-sectoral framework.
She highlighted the four key priorities that guide the NAFDAC’s effort in combatting AMR which include strengthening regulation and surveillance, antibiotic stewardship in the community and hospitals, promoting rational use in animal care, engaging the agricultural value chain and public and professional enlightenment.
The NAFDC DG disclosed that the Agency is intensifying oversight of both human and veterinary antimicrobials, adding that this includes curbing the circulation of substandard and falsified veterinary drugs, enforcing compliance with quality standards, and strengthening pharmacovigilance and post-marketing surveillance systems.
She said NAFDAC is committed to ensuring that antimicrobials for animals are used strictlyunder veterinary supervision, only for treatment—not for growth promotion or as a substitute for good farm practices. ‘We are working closely with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the veterinary community to promote safer alternatives and ensure best practices.’
Prof Adeyeye further stated that NAFDAC is actively partnering with farmers, feed producers, veterinarians, and industrystakeholders to raise awareness and promote alternatives, such as vaccines, biosecurity measures, and improved farm management practices, noting that ‘we are also regulating the use of antimicrobials in medicated feeds to prevent non-therapeutic use.’
Through nationwide campaigns, she said we are educating the public, farmers, and professionals alike. ‘Our message is simple: Responsible antimicrobial use is everyone’sresponsibility.
”Protecting animals means protecting people—and preserving the power of antimicrobials for the future.’
She urged healthcare professionals and veterinarians whom she described as the frontline defenders of public health to use antimicrobials judiciously and always under evidence-based guidance.
She however, urged the farmers and livestock producers to adopt good animal husbandry, hygiene, and vaccination practices to reduce the need for antibiotics.
She also admonished pharmacists to dispense antimicrobials only with valid prescriptions and educate consumers on responsible use.
To every Nigerian, she said; avoid self-medication, seek professional care, and demand responsibly produced food as she also urged media to continue to amplify awareness. ‘The story of AMR is one that must be told—clearly, urgently, and repeatedly.’
Prof Adeyeye envisions a Nigeria where infections in humans and animals remain treatable, our food chain is safe, and modern medicine continues to save lives—is one we must build together. ‘That future is not assured; it must be earned through coordinated action and sustained vigilance.’
The NAFDAC boss reiterated that the fight against AMR will be won or lost based on our collective and coordinated efforts across the human–animal–environment interface, adding that NAFDAC remains fully committed to playing its regulatory and leadership role with integrity, diligence, and innovation.
‘Let this year’s WAAW mark a renewed commitment to unity, collaboration, and sustained action. Together, let us Act Now—to protect our present and secure a healthier, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria.’
Speaking in same vein, Director of the Veterinary Medicine and Allied Products Directorate of NAFDAC, Mrs. Temitayo Stephanie Adeoye noted with dismay that Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) threatens the very foundation of modern medicine and food security.
She maintained that the overuse and misuse of antimicrobials in both human and animal health sectors, and the release of drug residues into the environment, have accelerated the emergence of resistant pathogens.
If not urgently addressed, she warned that the country risks returning to a time when minor infections could once again become fatal.
‘Our call to “Act Now” is a call to strengthen surveillance systems, enforce responsible antimicrobial use, and ensure the availability of safe, quality medicines through robust regulatory oversight,’ she said.
At NAFDAC, she further stated that through the Veterinary Medicine and Allied Products Directorate (VMAP) and other Directorates in the Agency ‘we continue to ensure that all medicinal products circulating within Nigeria are safe, effective, and of assured quality,.
She added that ‘our team is leading inter-agency collaborations on AMR surveillance in the veterinary sector, promoting rational antimicrobial use, and integrating stewardship principles across the livestock and aquaculture value chains.
The Directorate also collaborates with partners under the One Health platform to harmonize data, enhance AMU/AMC reporting, and enhance laboratory capacities for AMR testing, ensuring that our interventions are science-based, traceable, and impactful.’
