    The Chief Executive Officer of Agricultural Social Entrepreneurship foundation (ASEF International), Rosemary Adebayo, has said that the role of ASEF is to promote agricultural development and contribute to food security in Africa.

     

    Adebayo stated this at the signing of memorandum of understanding, MOU, with New Generation Nutrition (Netherlands) and FIDAS Africa, on training of Africans on insect farming.

     

    The event took place at the Business Incubation Platform Office of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), in Ibadan.

     

    The objective of the MOU is to make the training on Black Soldier Fly accessible to youths and women in Africa. 

     

    Speaking to journalists after the event, Adebayo, said ASEF will be providing 90% subsidy to the training thus making more Africans access the program, and that Training in other African countries are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2024.

     

    She further mentioned that they have reached out to 9,000 religious outfits, all Governors in Nigeria, relevant ministries and financial institutions to get support for Nigerian youths and women so they can also access the training.

     

    She implored Nigerians looking to explore new and less risky agricultural venture to start looking into insect farming.

     

    Speaking during the ceremony, the CEO of FIDAS Africa, Omolola Oludare stated that the training is targeted towards 100,000 Africans with 40,000 slots reserved for Nigerians.

     

    She further mentioned that the platform will also train 100 specialist/ experts in the value chain to be deployed for gainful employment across Africa. 

     

    Oludare expressed that it is the desire of FIDAS Africa to promote agriculture and food security in Africa.

     

    Also, the visionary and representative of Waste4meal, Oluwole Azeez, said that Waste4meal project is designed to combine waste management, climate action, food security and agricultural real estate in a single project.

     

    He mentioned that the project is a novel project that will reduce the countries dependencies on importation of animal feed and support local feed mills in sourcing of animal protein in the feed milling.

     

    He stated further that the project will create about 100,000 jobs across multiple countries in Africa, with 40,000 direct jobs created across 28 states in Nigeria and 160,000 indirect jobs created along the value chain over a period of 5 to 7 years.

     

    Azeez encouraged youths and women to embrace this opportunity and enrol for the training with FIDAS Africa, as the participants will also be supported towards establishing their own farms and becoming a member of a cluster.

     

    He also said that all trained persons will be formed into clusters within their respective states and be supported towards access to technology, support and finance by the consortium of 16 companies coming together to promote the project.

     

    The Nigerian representative of NGN, Mr John Amole, expressed his joy and enthusiasm regarding project waste4meal and the impact the project is set to have across Africa.

     

    Amole, who conducted the first training cohort mentioned that it is great delight to see that a project as Waste4meal emerged from the cohort earlier conducted in IITA.

     

    At the event was Dr Adebola Ajiboye from the University of Ibadan, being one of the pioneers in Nigeria on Black Soldier fly farming research, Adebola says the project is timely and should be encouraged. 

     

    He congratulated the parties to the MOU and expressed his happiness regarding the project.

     

    The Founder and CEO of NGN, Peters Marian who was present from the Netherlands mentioned the geographical advantage of sub-Saharan Africa in maximizing the insect value chain.

     

    Marian and NGN have provided support for companies in several countries in Africa, and are looking towards helping Nigerians explore the insect value chain for livestock feed production.

     

    NGN has sponsored the training of the first cohorts of insect farmers in IITA starting last quarter of 2023, and more persons will be trained over the course of the year.

     

    Marian also mentioned the strong relationship already established with the University of Ibadan regarding insect farming and training and the opportunities available for youths to engage in a relatively less risky agricultural venture.

     

    The Guest of honour at the event, The Director General of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, OYSADA and the CEO of BIP, Dr Debo Akande, represented my Mr Wole Oladokun, congratulated the parties to the MOU and promises to provide necessary support towards the success of the project and benefits of Nigerians.

    President Bola Tinubu says Oyo State holds a pivotal role in the nation’s economy, and will remain a top priority in the Federal government’s effort in stabilising and promoting unity and peace across the nation.

    The President, who was represented by his Vice, Kashim Shettima, stated this at the inauguration of the 76.67km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road named Adebayo Alao-Akala Memorial Highway, in Ogbomoso

    The road, described as a landmark legacy project, spans 76.76km across many communities between Iseyin and Ogbomoso.

    The President also lauded the Gov. Seyi Makinde, of Oyo State for being a collaborative partner with the Federal Government in the area of building road infrastructure.
    He said the road infrastructure provided by the Oyo State government connects communities and opens the state up to commerce and economic opportunities that would lift people out of poverty.

    “In governance, we must acknowledge that it is the convergence of many parts that forms a cohesive whole. Our Federation can only thrive when each state actively participates in building essentially infrastructure to facilitate our daily lives.

    “So, I want to appreciate Governor Makinde, on behalf of the President, for not only being a collaborative partner but for also engaging in such a critical capital project.

    “A new road such as the one that we are about to inaugurate, has the potential to open up new arears of economy activities, increase agriculture production, accelerate newalisation process.

    “Road constructed to support commerce and agriculture, inevitably enhance the standard of living for the people they serve.

    “Economic agenda of the President is rooted in supporting each state of the federation in achieving his objectives and fulfilling our promises to the nation.

    “Oyo state holds a pivotal role in our nation’s economy, and will always remain a top priority in our effort to stabilise and promote unity and peace across the nation.

     

    “I salute the governor for his dedication to leaving behind a legacy project. My brother, posterity will be kind to you.

    “I promise that President Tinubu will support you in his drive for the agricultural transformation, especially in the agro-industrial hub.”

     

    Speaking earlier, Gov. Makinde, said his drive to build roads that interconnect all the five zones of the state was energised by his belief that where roads go, development follows.

    The governor also used the occasion to invite local and foreign investors to Oyo State, stating that his government would listen to them and support them with necessary policies and infrastructure to make their businesses succeed.

    “Where road goes, development follows. This is the mantra that has continued to support our continuous drive to build road infrastructure that interconnects all zones of our dear state.

    “Our focus has always been to ensure that we spread development all around. Gone are the days when all our IGR would come from only one zone.

    “Let me use this opportunity to invite local and international investors to come to Oyo State, talk to us about your plans, we are ready to support you with the needed infrastructure, as we continue to create an enabling environment for the private sectors to thrive.

    “I want to once again thank the Vice President for coming here to celebrate with us today including all our guests from far and near, who have continued to identify with our progress in the state.”

    In his opening remarks, the Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Prof. Dahud Shangodoyin, described the project as an incontestable economic impetus for the sustainable development of the state.

    Shangodoyin also reeled out the achievement of gov Makinde so far in the area of road infrastructure.

    Also in their goodwill messages, a former Military Governor of Oyo and Ogun states, retired Gen. Oladayo Popoola and Mrs. Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, wife of a former governor, appreciated Makinde for the landmark project and for immortalising the former governor of Ogbomoso extraction.

    The contractors that handled the project, Messrs KOPEK and Messrs Craneburg commended Makinde for delivering what they described as a legacy project initiated, executed and completed by the administration.

    Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, says his administration remains committed to providing healthcare infrastructure and supporting initiatives and ideas for improved healthcare delivery in the state.

     

    Makinde stated this when he inaugurated the solarised Medical Oxygen Pressure Swing Adsorption Plant, first of its kind in Nigeria, and the Level 2 Newborn Unit at the Jericho Specialist Hospital, Ibadan.

     

    He also launched the Oyo State Strategy for the Scale-up of Medical Oxygen in Health Facilities (2024-2028).

     

    According to him, the launch of the strategy for scaling up medical oxygen in health facilities across the state fits perfectly with the agenda of his administration.

    He said his administration’s agenda was not only to build infrastructure but also to put in place institutions that will endure and help the state run smoothly in years to come.

    The governor appreciated UNICEF, Federal Ministry of Health and IHS, among other agencies partnering with the state in the health sector.

    He said he had given approval for the recruitment of more medical doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to address the personnel shortage in the system.

    “Your partnership with Oyo State in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and NACA, IHS as well as others brought this project, which is being commissioned today.

    “Any project that will improve the health care system in Oyo State is important to us, because it fits into our administration’s plan to move the people of Oyo State from poverty into prosperity.

     

    “As you may have known, healthcare has remained one of the pillars of our administration in the Roadmap to Accelerated Development, 2019 to 2023, and now the Oyo State Roadmap for Sustainable Development, 2023 -2027.

     

    “A lot of projects are ongoing in the primary healthcare sector and, so far, we have rehabilitated and upgraded not less than 210 PHCs across the state.

     

    “To accomplish this, we had to increase the budgetary allocation to our health sector to the average of about eight per cent in the past five years.

     

    In her goodwill message, the Country Representative, UNICEF Nigeria, Ms. Cristian Munduate, commended Governor Makinde’s efforts in the healthcare sector, charging other governors to emulate his approach in their different states.

    “We gather here not only to mark the handover of the solarised medical oxygen plant and the Level 2 Newborn Unit at Jericho Specialist Hospital to the Oyo State Government, but also to launch the Oyo State Strategy for the Scale-Up of Medical Oxygen in Health Facilities.

    “This triple milestone represents a remarkable step forward in our shared commitment to improving maternal and child health in Oyo State and across Nigeria.

    “This is testament to what we can achieve when we work together towards a common goal – ensuring the health and well-being of every child and mother in this state.”

    Also speaking, the Assistant Director, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Olanrewaju Sulaimon, noted that the commissioning of the plant represented a beacon of hope, “which signifies shared commitment to providing quality healthcare services for all regardless of location or socioeconomic status.”

     

    Earlier in her welcome address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, said the solarised Medical Oxygen Pressure Swing Adsorption Plant in Nigeria is the first of its kind in the South-West and even in the whole of Nigeria.

    Dr Ajetunmobi noted that the laudable achievements stand as a testament to the power of collaboration, dedication, and the impact of collective efforts in addressing critical gaps in healthcare infrastructure.

    The event was attended by top government functionaries including the Deputy Governor, Mr Bayo Lawal; the Secretary to Oyo State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo; the Chief of Staff, Hon Segun Ogunwuyi; and the Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni.

    Makinde stated this in a statement commemorating the 2024 Children’s Day, noting that children are special and deserve the best of life.

     

    According to the governor, the administration is of the belief that the right foundations are important to children’s growth and progress, hence its strong commitment to improving the quality of education and healthcare delivery in the state.

    On the occasion of Children’s Day, former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, has urged the Federal Government to prioritise girl-child education.

    Prof. Adedoja, who is celebrating his 73rd birthday today, May 27, with a focus on welfare support programs for children, also advised parents to be more vigilant in guiding their children amidst rising cases of bullying, violence, and social vices in schools.

    Expressing concern over the increasing number of school dropouts in Nigeria, Prof. Adedoja emphasised the need for effective implementation of educational programs to address this issue.

    “With over 20 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, I believe the Tinubu administration’s educational programs will be crucial for these future leaders, whose only hope lies in the quality of education they receive in childhood,” he stressed.

    Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has tasked the newly elected Chairmen of the 33 Local Government of the State to uphold rule of law and develop grassroot.

     

     

    Makinde stated this during the inauguration of the newly-elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 33 Local Government Areas of the state, on Friday at the House of Chiefs, Secretraiat, Agodi, Ibadan.

     

    Gov. Makinde maintained that his administration is very clear in its dream for a better Oyo State, noting that the council chairmen elected on April 27, 2024, should replicate his vision for a better Oyo State, as they are closer to the grassroots.

     

    The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, equally noted that the Local Government Administration cannot be undermined because of its constitutional obligation as a catalyst for sustainable development at the grassroot.

     

     

    He maintained that his administration has been implementing an all-inclusive agenda for development based on his vision to move the state to greater heights through good governance, adequate democratic practice and total engagement with stakeholders with a view to delivering the dividends of democracy to the teeming population in the Pacesetter’s State.

     

    The governor, who stated that his administration has proven itself as a responsive and purpose-driven administration by conducting election into the various councils as and when due, congratulated the people of the state for electing credible individuals as their representatives in the just concluded Local Government election, which was adjudged to be credible and fair in all ramifications.

     

    He said: “I want to extend my warm felicitations to all the newly-elected Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen whose election is a clear indication of their acceptability at the grassroots in view of their dedication, integrity and tenacity at ensuring development at the various Local Government Areas.

     

    “As a government, we are very clear in our dream for better Oyo State. Similarly, you must all brace up to replicate the same at the grassroots level by embracing people-sensitive and developmental programmes aimed at bringing democratic dividends to our people. It is my hope that you will continue to consolidate on past achievements.

     

    “It is evident that the task before this august gathering is beyond mere rhetoric, as your coming on board must bring the desired and envisioned development to the grassroots in our dear state.

     

    “As you start this new chapter, you are enjoined to collaborate and work diligently towards building lasting legacies with a view to making life better for the good people of the state.

    “The grassroots communities are the heartbeat of our state; let us prioritise their needs and aspirations in our governance strategies. Always keep in mind the trust reposed in all of you.

    “For the umpteenth time and for the purpose of emphasis, democratic tenets must be upheld at the grassroot level, especially in the administration of your various Local Governments.     “On this note, I now pronounce the 33 Local Government Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen inaugurated to the glory of God and for the benefit of the good people of Oyo State.

    Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Segun Olayiwola, who welcomed the council chairmen and others to the ceremony, said the just concluded Local Government election marked a significant point in the state’s democratic journey, thus affirming the governor’s commitment to fairness, transparency and above all, accountability.

     

     

    According to him, it was also a testimonial for the administration’s commitment to good governance and adherence to the Rule of Law.

     

    While extending his congratulations to all the newly-elected Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen, Olayiwola expressed optimism that they would meet the expectations of the people of Oyo State.

     

     

    He said: “As you embark on this noble responsibility, I urge you to work hand in hand with your respective executives, utilising their expertise and fostering collaboration to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every nook and cranny of your respective Local Governments.

     

     

    “It is the dawn of a new chapter; you are urged to work assiduously with unwavering commitment to building a more virile Local Government System devoid of acrimony or rancour towards building a better future for all citizens of the Pacesetter’s State.

    The Overseas Scholarship Team Lead of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Mr Tajudeen Ibiyeye, says PTDF scholarship focuses more on President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to transition from petroleum to renewable energy.

     

    Ibiyeye told newsmen in Ibadan that the 2024 scholarship interviews centered more on renewable energy and gas.

     

    He stated that 5,733 candidates were shortlisted nationwide from over 16,000 applicants, with only 953 shortlisted for the Ibadan Centre interview.

     

    Ibiyeye described the scholarship as a life-transforming opportunity to conduct research at top universities worldwide.

     

    He assured Nigerians of a transparent interview process, pledging that the best candidates would be selected.

    “In line with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, we have increased awareness. Part of what we have done differently this year is to make sure the process is more transparent.

     

    “Part of what we are doing now is to focus on Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which is transitioning from petroleum to renewable energy.

     

    “What we are doing now in the selection process is to select more candidates for renewable energy and gas, which is a transition from fuel,” he said.

     

    Dr Nuru Maikachi, a lecturer from the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Bayero University, urged successful applicants to embrace patriotism and benefit the country after completing their programmes.

    Maikachi, a panelist and former PTDF scholar, narrated how he benefited from the PTDF overseas scholarship for his Master’s and Ph.D. programmes and returned to contribute to the country.

     

    “After my four years Ph.D at London Southern University, I had good offers in London from universities like Coventry University but I returned to Nigeria.

     

    “I returned to Bayero University because I was bonded by the university and PTDF before I left for my Ph.D. This PTDF panel I am today is also a contribution to national development.

     

    “As an ex-scholar, we have the experience and capacity to evaluate the technical skills and capacity of many applicants. So we were included in the selection committee,” he said.

    The President of the United States of America {USA}, Joe Biden, has conferred  the country’s Lifetime Achievement Award on Amb. Dr Jonathan Ojadah.

     

    Dr Ojadah is the Global President of the United Nations International  Peace and Governance Council {UNIPGC} and International Royal Diplomatic Club of the United Nations, Vilnius, Lithuania (IRDCUN) – European Union Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

    The message for the conferment of the award was conveyed to the diplomat in a letter personally signed by President Biden.

    President Biden said Amb. Ojadah’s contributions to American society were legendary, and that by sharing his time and passion, the ambassador was helping discover and deliver solutions to the challenges the country faced.

    He maintained that he was proud to present Ojadah with the President’s Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of his  499 hours of service to the nation.

    The president said: ‘’The American story depends not on any one of us, not on some of us, but on all of us. I congratulate you on taking it over to yourself to contribute to the public good, and I’m proud to present you with the President’s Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of your 499 hours of service to this great nation.

     

    ‘’Throughout our country’s history, the American story has been strengthened by those who combine optimism about what can be with resilience to turn that vision into reality.

    “I know I’m not alone in recognising that those who are willing to step up and volunteer in service of community and country are essential to the ongoing work of forming a more perfect union.

    ‘’By sharing your time and passion, you are helping discover and deliver solutions to the challenges we face – solutions that we need now more than ever.

    “We are living in a moment that calls for hope and light and love. Hope for our future, light to see our way forward, and love for one another. Through your service, you are providing all the three.

    Also, a member of US Congress, Sheila Jackson Lee representing the District of Texas, congratulated Dr. Ojadah for his recognition, describing it as a momentous occasion.

    In a congratulatory letter she personally signed, the US member of Congress extolled Dr. Ojadah for his humanitarian services which she said has been admirable.

    In his response through his verified social media post, Amb. Ojadah said it came after a meticulous review and thorough screening of his career achievements.

    The honour is reserved for those who contribute more than 4,000 hours of service in their lifetime.

     

    Along with the ultimate honour of presidential recognition, recipients usually receive a personalized certificate, an official pin, medallion or coin and a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States of America.

     

    This grand event and award presentation is set to unfold 2024 at South Shore Harbour, in the prestigious city of Houston Texas, USA, on 27th – 29th July, 2024.

    The Director General, National Commission for Museums and Monuments Mr. Olugbile Holloway, has emphasised the importance of raising awareness about preserving, protecting, and appreciating humanity’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

    Holloway made this call at the 2024 International Museum Day celebration, themed “Museums for Education and Research.”

    Represented by the Curator of the National Museum of Unity, Ibadan,
    Mrs. Oriyomi Otuka, praised the dedication of staff members in preserving and appreciating cultural heritage.

    “The theme resonates deeply with the core mission of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments.

    “This is also in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the president in areas of education, cultural, and creative economy,” she said.

    Otuka highlighted that museums are not just artifact repositories but hubs for learning, exploration, and enlightenment.

     

    “In today’s fast-paced, technologically driven world, museums play a crucial role in understanding our past, present, and future.

    “They offer immersive educational experiences, serve as research platforms, and provide valuable resources and insights.

    “They serve as platforms for education, offering immersive experiences that transcend traditional classroom settings.

    “Museums are crucial hubs for research, providing scholars and enthusiasts alike with access to invaluable resources and insights.

    “Through rigorous study and analysis, we uncover hidden truths, unravel mysteries, and piece together the rich tapestry of human history,” she said.

    As the International Museum Day is celebrated, Otuka urged reaffirming our commitment to harnessing museums’ power for societal betterment.

    “Let us strive to make museums inclusive, accessible, and engaging for all ages and backgrounds.”

    She encouraged staff members to give their best efforts, confident that together, they can make a meaningful impact.

    “Education is the most powerful weapon for changing the world. Let us leverage museums’ transformative power to educate, inspire, and empower future generations.”
