Peller Felicitates Gov. Makinde at 56, says he is exemplary, visionary

    By Adewale Owoade

Honourable Shina Peller, a former lawmaker, has described the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde as a visionary, youth oriented and result-driven leader.

Peller stated this in his goodwill message to the governor on his 56th birthday, where he described Makinde’s leadership attributes as exemplary and noteworthy.

The Oke Ogun-born businessman cum politician, highlighted some of the commendable leadership attributes of the governor, which he said include Makinde’s strict adherence to the principles of equity, fairness and justice.

He stated further that the developmental projects of Governor Makinde, reaffirmed his alignment and association with the governor as his leader.

Moreover, Honourable Peller seized the opportunity to rejoice with Christians on the occasion of the 2023 Christmas celebrations and prayed for all to witness many more of it on earth.

    The statement read in full:

“I celebrate my dear leader, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as he adds another year today.

“Truly, our political landscape suffers from lack of good leadership, and there is no leadership where there’s no vision. Governor Makinde is a visionary leader, youth oriented, and result driven person whose actions are bound to impact positively on not only the present generation but also the coming generations. This is why I am proud to identify and associate with him as my leader irrespective of my political affiliation, particularly in the last general election.

“Indeed, Governor Makinde’s leadership attributes are exemplary and noteworthy. One of the things I cherish about him is his respect for the principles of equity, fairness, and justice as evident in the ways he administers the state.

“For example, the general belief has always been that Oke Ogun region is marginalized. However, since Governor Makinde came on board, he has rekindled the hope of the people of the region by paying attention to them.

“Oke Ogun people have been clamouring for a university for about 70 years; Governor Makinde saw to this by giving the region LAUTECH campus in Iseyin.

“Also, the governor provided the region with good, linkable roads to aid their major business which is agriculture. The People’s governor fixed Moniya-Iseyin road; saw to the completion of the dualisation of Saki road; reconstructed Oyo-Iseyin road which connects Oyo and Oke-Ogun Zone; opened up Ogbomoso to Oke-Ogun to through the construction of Ogbomoso-Iseyin road and other developmental projects.

“Mentioned above are just a few of the numerous dividends of democracy that the people are experiencing, not only in Oke Ogun, but Oyo State at large; the transformational activities of Governor Makinde cut across every nook and cranny of the state.

“Also, the Ido-Eruwa Road reconstruction project executed by Governor Makinde is applaudable as it links the Ibadan and Ibarapa Zones of Oyo State. Also, the rehabilitation of Eruwa-Lanlate-Maya Road located in Ibarapa East LGA is worth noting.

“The Governor created safe, adequate and efficient transport system that can sustain the social and economic development of the state, and many other numerous laudable projects that I cannot even remember.

“Dear visionary leader, as you turn 56 today, the people of Oke Ogun and Oyo state at large celebrate you, and we pray that God strengthens you in all ways as you continue to pilot the affairs of our dear state. May you witness many more years on earth in God’s name. Amen.

“In the same vein, I’m using this avenue to wish all, particularly, Christians, a blissful Christmas celebration. We shall witness many more of it in God’s name. Amen.”

Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, has assured residents of the state that his administration will continue to embark on building infrastructure that impacts on the economy of the state

The governor stated this in Ido, while commissioning the 10 kilometres Omi-Adio to Ido Junction Road constructed by Ido Local Government.

He added that his administration will continue to support the efforts of Local Government Areas in line with the developmental plans of the state.

Governor Makinde, who spoke at the Ido Clay Mining Station venue of the event, said the new road is of great economic importance to the state as the axis is set to become an economic hub.

He said: “Let me use this opportunity to appreciate you, my people in Ido Local Government. We were on the campaign trail when I flagged off this road project on the 3rd of February, 2023.

“Then, I promised that we would complete this road in record time, because we believe that our infrastructure should target our economy. We will continue to do that as a government.

“This project was not done by the state but by Ido LG, which shows a good collaboration between the LG and state governments. So, this is an example of collaboration in government.

“Let me specially thank the contractors, because after the award, we started facing economic headwinds. We awarded it in February and, by May, there was a change in government and they announced removal of fuel subsidy.

So, the price of asphalt, which was a major component, went through the roof.

“This road has economic importance. It links a particular rail line here. With this and also with the one we just opened, which leads to Orita Challenge, and the plan we have for Owode Estate, this whole place will be a big hub for development.”

The governor promised to relocate the popular Omi Adio Market by the railroad side to a better location within the shortest period of time, calling on Ido Local Government to embark on the enumeration of traders at the market.

He equally assured that the local government will benefit from the ongoing construction of the Circular Road, as according to him, Ido is the last leg of the project and is expected to link the axis to the Lagos-Ibadan expressway through Ajanla Farms.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Matters, Honourable Segun Olayiwola described the road project as another achievement to move the state forward and make life more comfortable for the people.

Similarly, the Chairman, Ido Local Government, Mr Sheriff Adeojo, said the project was successful because of Governor Makinde’s friendly policy of supporting worthy projects at the local government level.

He said: “Today’s commissioning is an epoch-making event in the history of Ido Local Government.

“I must confess that this landmark achievement is made possible because of the Governor’s friendly policy direction and availability of funds to execute the project.

“Your Excellency, the entire people of Ido LG and the adjoining local government areas cannot thank you enough, because of the linkage of the road both to the urban and rural areas, thereby making businesses very effective and hitch-free.

“On behalf of the entire people in Ido LG, we appreciate you for honouring this invitation, as we pledge our unalloyed support for your administration.”

Also in his goodwill message, the Asiwaju of Ido, Chief Niyi Akintola, SAN, lauded Governor Makinde for supporting the road project and for bringing government presence to Ido Community, which had not received the attention of the past administrations in the state for 31 years.

He commended the governor for his unprecedented infrastructure development strides in all the zones of the state, which he said had reduced rural-urban migration as well as removing the obstacles of the hard-to-reach in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Samchase Nigeria Limited, Engineer Okoro, expressed his gratitude to the governor for prompt approval and release of funds.

He appealed to motorists and residents to adhere strictly to road signs and cautions and equally maintain the drainages as expected.

  • A DIGITAL WORLD NEEDING MORE HUMANITY By Paul Ejime

A DIGITAL WORLD NEEDING MORE HUMANITY By Paul Ejime

Our digital World with the accompanying advanced technology has unleashed innumerable benefits on humanity. Yet, our quest for justice and equity, satisfaction, good health, sound sleep, healing, peace, and happiness, remains insatiable and endless.

For many, the Year 2023 started with tribulations and anxiety, particularly from the reverberations of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which is almost two years old and counting, with the attendant economic hardship even for countries that are thousands of kilometres away.

Yes, it is a digital age where information/news travels faster than ever and tasks are easily facilitated. However, conflicts, chaos, hypocrisy, perfidy, inconsistency, covetousness, trust deficit and cheating have also multiplied, no thanks to globalising liberalism, the collapse of multilateralism and the rise of multipolarities aggravated by wars and asymmetric threat vectors, such as terrorism, religious extremism, separatist agitations, cyber warfare, and social media.

The World had not fully recovered from the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Even the year 2023 refused to be outdone with the 7th of October deadly and unprecedent raid on Israel by Hamas militants that left more than 1,000 Israelis dead and hundreds of others of various nationalities abducted.

Israel’s Defence Forces have responded with venom killing more than 20,000 Palestinians in a continuing carpet air, land, and sea onslaught by the 22nd of December 2023, according to Palestinian sources. Not even the United Nations, the organisation set up for World peace, has been able to negotiate a ceasefire, from numerous unbinding Resolutions.

Meanwhile, unrelenting conflicts, some deadlier than the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas fighting combined, in developing countries, especially in Africa, have attracted less international attention, perhaps, because Africa matters very little or is not a priority on the World agenda.

Apart from violent conflicts involving the use of kinetics, Africa is also awash with diseases, crimes as well as man-made and natural disasters.

But the tragic irony of international relations is that while a growing number of African countries such as Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, the two Congos, Gabon, Chad, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Burkina Faso, and Niger are battling existential crises, including a resurgence of military coups, the EU, and their American ally, are demanding Africa’s support in the Russia-Ukraine war.
From disheartening images of the carnage in the theatres of World conflicts, it is obvious that humanity has lost its soul and moral compass. Human life does not matter anymore.

It would appear that no useful lessons were drawn from previous misadventures in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or Libya.
The interests and profits of Western defence and blue-chip industries appear to be the main triggers or drivers of World conflicts, with the secret agenda to “destroy and reconstruct later!’

The bottom line, my dear people, is that humanity is losing its fundamental values, the ingredients for human existence, and this can be traced to the collapse of the family system.
The family dysfunction has smeared the entire fabric of society from the individual to corporate levels and contaminated the national, regional, and global space. The rich are richer and the poor poorer.

Corporate executives are no longer answerable to their employees, nor are governments accountable to the people. Parents have abandoned their responsibilities to their children and wards, while the children and young people have lost respect for their parents and the elderly.

The falcon can no longer hear the falconer and things are desperately falling apart!
So, Ethiopia must teach its Tigray tribe the lesson of their lives, for daring to dream of self-determination; for invading Ukraine, Russia must be degraded militarily and economically, meanwhile, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya had been invaded in the past without consequences for the allied invaders. For daring to humiliate the once-feared Israeli defence system, Hamas must be annihilated, the massacre of innocent civilians is immaterial since in war, the use of disproportionate force is not an issue, as the World watches in conspiratorial silence.

Back in Africa, a young General Mahamat Idris Derby can seize power unconstitutionally and succeed his elected father President assassinated by rebels, and be treated as a celebrity, but soldiers in Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso must face sanctions for toppling elected governments.

Indeed, coup leaders in Niger, were to face the wrath of a regional military force, until reason finally prevailed.

It is rather unfortunate that humans have become too impatient, with many on the short-fuse, aggressive and trigger-happy, pursuing ruthless vengeance with an unforgiving spirit. Pacification, endurance, forgiveness, joy, happiness, generosity, and consideration for others have taken flight

Therefore, in this Special Season, my dear people, I wanted us to reflect on the virtues of forbearance, joy, and forgiveness as vehicles for healing the brokenness of our individual personalities, nations, and the World at large. Bad governance compounded by socio-economic hardship, injustices, disaffection, and frustrations have forced many into hopelessness and resort to self-help, resulting in high crime rates and suicide cases in many societies.

Religion, often considered as the “opium of the masses,” is no longer a panacea, because it has become an industry and practised more in breach without any depth of spirituality.

Still, for believers, Scripture injunctions remain sacred and sacrosanct. For instance, Christians are enjoined 365 times in the Holy Bible to “fear not” or “do not be afraid.” That is a divine assurance every day of the year!

This is also followed in Ephesians 5:20 and 1 Thessalonians 5:18 with another exhortation “to give thanks to God in all circumstances.” It might sound difficult, but that is the assured way of God, which is not that of man (or woman).

The verse “without me (God our Creature) (we) can do nothing,” which appears 27 times in the Holy Bible, including in John 15:5, requires us to believe and trust in God always.

In doing so, we cannot be too hard on ourselves or judgemental of others. Anger, self-defeat, greed, desperation, impatience or undue haste, intolerance and unforgiveness only trigger or reinforce hurt and pain in us and around us.
Forgiveness, joyfulness, compassion, consideration, and love for others will engender healing and internal happiness, which we are required to radiate and share with others.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to Everyone! (Flowerbudnews)

Enugu: Chief Emma Eneukwu, Deputy National Chairman South of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged Nigerians to allow the spirit of Christmas be a catalyst for unity and collaboration in the country.

Eneukwu, in a Christmas message made available to newsmen in Enugu on Sunday, called on Nigerians to allow their confession of love and brotherliness to speak louder than words.

According to him, as we joyfully gather to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, I extend heartfelt Christmas greetings to each and every one of you.

He said as Christians and fellow Nigerians, “we share a common purpose and vision for a better Nigeria”, adding: “Let us work hand in hand, transcending differences for the greater good of our beloved country”.

“Let us open our hearts and hands to those around us, making a positive impact on the lives of those who may be facing challenges.

“My dear fellow Christians may the joy of Christmas fill your hearts and homes. May this season inspire us to be beacons of love, compassion and unity,” he added. (Flowerbudnews)

Army hands over 66 rescued kidnapped victims to Sokoto govt

The Nigerian Army, following a successful operation in Gundumi forest in Sokoto, on Sunday, handed over 66 persons rescued from bandits and kidnappers to the Sokoto State government.

The Garrison Commander 8 Division, Bridgadier General Amos Tawasimi, while handing over the victims to the state government said 51 of the members were rescued on Friday while another 14 persons were rescued on Saturday.

“As part of our activities to ensure that the state is safe for people to go about their activities

“Three days ago, we stormed the Gundumi forest to rescue these numbers of people I’m which some of them have been abducted for months by these kidnappers,” he said.He commends the governor for his support to the security agents while assuring that his men will continue to live up to expectations.

Speaking while receiving the victims, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, commended the Nigerian Army and other security agents in the state for their efforts and commitment in tackling insecurity in the state.

“Today marks another significant milestone in our fight against armed banditry, kidnapping and rustling in the state as our security operatives have succeeded in rescuing 66 victims who were kidnapped from various villages and communities in Sokoto and other neighbouring states.

From what we have gathered, 51 of the victims were rescued on Thursday while 14 were rescued on Saturday.

“It would be recalled that a few weeks ago 51 victims had been rescued after our gallant soldiers dislodged these criminals from their hideouts around Tangaza forest in Tangaza local government area of the state.

“This is indeed a commendable effort by our security operatives, especially members of Operation Hadarin Daji to rid our state of armed banditry, Kidnapping, rustling, and other forms of criminality in line with the commitment of this government to restore peace in our dear state and ensure all our people who are now living in various camps across the state return to their respective communities and leave a normal life devoid of any fear of attack or kidnapping,” the governor stated.

Blessings for same-sex couples signs of end time– Clerics

Abuja: Pastor Kayode Aliyu of the Cherubim & Seraphim (C&S) Movement Church Worldwide, Daki-Biyu District, Kubwa Branch, says the permission by Pope Francis for priests to bestow blessings upon same-sex couples “is a sign of the end time.”

Corroborating Aliyu’s remark, the Senior Pastor and Leader In charge of the church, Special Apostle Alex Ogundipe, said the message was to the fact that “we are in the last phase of the world.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Pope Francis was reported to have, on Monday, granted permission for priests to bestow blessings upon same-sex couples.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church, however, emphasised that such blessings should not be incorporated into routine church ceremonies or associated with civil unions or weddings.

But the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria said that Catholic Churches in the country would not bless same-sex unions, saying the blessing of the same-sex union is against God’s law, the teachings of the church, and the law of the country.

They made this known in a statement released and signed by the President of the conference, Lucius Ugirji and the Secretary, Donayus Ogun on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, while delivering a sermon titled: “End Time Survival: The Strategies to Survive the End Time,” on Sunday in Abuja, Aliyu gave 18 factors to identify the era.

Preaching from the books of Genesis 6: 11 to 18; Mathew 24: 1 to 14 and 2 Timothy 3: 1 to 5, the clergyman said “many shall be lovers of themselves, covetousness, boasters,

blasphemers, disobedience to their parents, unthankful, without natural affection, etc.”

Emphasising on people without natural affection and love for one another, Aliyu said God instituted marriage between a man and a woman, and not between man and man or woman and woman.

Giving biblical allusion from Romans 1: 18 to 28, the pastor said, “if we fail to have the knowledge of God, God will give us over to a depraved mind, so that we do what ought not to be done.”

According to him, a church said blessings should be administered on same-sex couples, though part of the church in Nigeria has gone against that; this is a sign of the end time.

Aliyu said what the Christians need at this end time was a gift of the discernment of spirit.
According to him, to survive the end time, you need discerning spirit that is based on the word of God.

“For end time survival, you don’t need prophesy. A husband can deceive wife and a wife can decide her husband,” he said.

The cleric, who called on the Christians to deal with those 18 factors listed in the message, urged everyone to be baptised in the Holy Spirit.

“If you have the fruit of the spirit, it will destroy the works of the devil in you,” he said.
Also speaking, Pastor Ogundipe said the church should not forget that the world is going to an end with its lustfulness.

He urged the parents to ensure that their children are taught in the way of God for the betterment of their future and society.

“Let us tell ourselves the truth In preparation for the gift (birth of Jesus Christ) that we will receive tomorrow,” he said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng) (Flowerbudnews)

  • Ex-SGF Boss Mustapha denies looting $6.3m from CBN vault

Ex-SGF Boss Mustapha denies looting $6.3m from CBN vault

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, has denied a report alleging his involvement in the illegal withdrawal of $6.3 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, during the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to reports, a special investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu uncovered the alleged theft, which supposedly occurred on February 8, 2023 — weeks before the presidential election.

The report also alleged that Mustapha, alongside the embattled former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, ordered the removal of the cash under the guise of funding foreign election observer missions.

The investigator’s report claimed CCTV footage captured how the money was moved out of the CBN.

However, Mustapha, in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen on Saturday, emphatically refuted the accusations, calling them “outrageous and unsubstantiated”.

He described the allegation as a “malicious fabrication” and an “orchestrated” attempt to assassinate his character and besmirch my reputation.

The ex-SGF added that he lacked knowledge of the purported “Presidential Directive” cited in the report as justification for the withdrawal.

He noted that he was never involved in discussions or transactions related to any payments for foreign election observers.

Mustapha quizzed the timing of the allegation, pointing to its publication during the “sensitive pre-Christmas period” as an indication that it was a deliberate attempt to exploit public sentiment and sow seeds of doubt.

The former SGF called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter, urging the authorities to “probe the source of the fabricated documents” and expose those behind the “smear” campaign.”

He equally appealed to the public and the media to exercise critical thinking and not succumb to misinformation
