The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), on Thursday said its viewing centres still enjoyed massive turnout of fans; in spite of the exit of the Super Eagles from the World Cup.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lagos State Government had installed World Cup viewing Centres across the state to enable fans to watch matches under a festive atmosphere.
Other viewing centres were also established by LSSC in partnership with International Breweries, Nigeria, makers of Trophy Lager Beer, Hero and Budweiser.
The Executive Chairman, LSSC, Mr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, told NAN that he was not surprised by the turnout of spectators at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
“The security put in place by the Lagos State Government and the atmosphere here is very conducive for people to enjoy watching the games,” he said.
The Head of Public Relations, LSSC, Mr. Titi Oshodi, said the spectators were still trooping to the viewing centres not minding the Eagles’ ouster from the biggest football fiesta.
“Spectators continued to troop out to watch the remaining matches at various viewing centres located at Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Abesan Playground, Alimosho, Naval Barracks Ajegunle.
“Other centres across the state such as Bishop Aggrey Youth Centre, Mushin, Epe Recreation Centre, Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu and Badagry Grammar School, Badagry are also enjoying same patronages.
“Some of the fans we spoke at the Campos Mini Stadium Viewing Center said Lagos Football lovers will continue to troop out to watch the remaining World Cup matches at the viewing centre,” said Oshodi.
He said this was because the atmosphere at the centres was good and the security was readily available and at the same time there was fun and musical interlude.
The LSSC Coordinator at Epe Recreation Centre, Mr. Ishola Safari, said after the ouster of the Super Eagles, the turnout of spectators remained the same because people felf comfortable at the centre. (NAN)

For the first time in history, a transgender woman will be taking part in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant later this year.
According to Express UK, Angela Ponce from Spain has won her country’s qualifying rounds against 22 other contestants. She’ll be representing Spain in Miss Universe 2018 that is set to take place in Philippines this year.

Ponce took to Instagram and wrote, “Bringing the name and colours of Spain before the universe is my great dream. My goal is to be a spokesperson for a message of inclusion, respect and diversity, not only for the LGBTQ+ community but also for the entire world.”
However, this is not the first time Ponce has taken part in a beauty pageant. In 2015, she won the Miss Universe Spain title.
The Miss Universe Organisation ended its ban on transgender contestants in 2012. The decision came after transgender model Jenna Talackova legally challenged the authorities. Celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred took over the case as the organisation at the time was owned by current US president Donald Trump. She personally attacked the competition and Trump.
While addressing the matter, Trump had said, “We made the decision two days before we even heard that Allred was involved. Had I known she was involved, maybe I wouldn’t have made that decision because she’s so easy to beat.” He also claimed that Allred was a “third-rate” lawyer.

Upon hearing this news, pageant president Paula Shugart agreed with Trump. She explained, “The decision to include transgender women in our beauty competitions is a result of our ongoing discussions and not Jenna’s legal representation, which if anything delayed the process.” She continued that the pageant has always celebrated equality for all women.
