Police say no community invaded, placed under siege in Enugu

    By Flowerbudnews
The Police Command in Enugu State says no part of the state or community in the state including Eha-Amufu community has been invaded, placed under siege or its residents displaced recently.

The Command Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Wednesday in a statement in Enugu, said that the Command was aware of a spurious online report alleging that herdsmen have overrun and occupied homes and schools in Eha-Amufu community.

Ndukwe said that after a diligent review, the Command declared the report as “baseless, mischievous, and a calculated attempt to mislead the public and instill fear.”

He said that the farm settlements allegedly overrun by herdsmen are temporary dwellings used by farmers who periodically return to their permanent residences in their villages.

Ndukwe noted that available records indicate that farmers were temporarily displaced from these farm settlements during farmer-herder clashes sometimes in 2021 and 2022; however, peace and order have since been restored to Eha-Amufu through joint security operations, contrary to the misleading report.

“The Police Command particularly acknowledges the intentional and intensive interventions of the Government of Enugu State to enhance security, especially in Eha-Amufu community and its adjoining communities, under the leadership of Gov. Peter Mbah.

“These efforts include deploying 150 military personnel and well-equipped Special Forces, establishing security agency barracks, and constructing the nearly completed 21.7km Agape-Agu-Mgbuji-Ogbete access road leading to some farm settlements in the community.

“Regrettably, the medium that published the report ignored these facts and timelines, using unrelated pictures to support its sensational claims.

“After diligent forensic and digital fact-checking, it was discovered that the images were taken from old reports on incidents in neighboring states and other locations, then mischievously repurposed to mislead the public,” he said.

According to him, pictures of burnt houses posted by Amnesty International in condemnation of the Feb. 4, 2025, attack on the Nkalaeha community in a neighboring state were falsely misrepresented in the report as a recent occurrence in Eha-Amufu farm settlements.

The spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, had urged the public to disregard this unfounded report.

He said that the commissioner reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the police and other security agencies to maintaining law, order, and security across the State.

“”The command calls on citizens, particularly those in the allegedly affected communities of Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security agencies, and report any genuine security concerns through official channels,” he added.

His Renaissance recently led a consortium of indigenous energy firms in the landmark acquisition of the entire equity holding in the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), worth $2.4 billion.

Like Kida, Ojulari is also an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Elf Aquitaine as the first Nigerian process engineer to begin a stellar career in the oil sector.

From Elf, he joined Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd in 1991 as an associate production technologist.

Apart from working in Nigeria, he worked in Europe and the Middle East in different capacities as a petroleum process and production engineer, strategic planner, field developer, and asset manager.

In 2015, he became the managing director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO).

During his career, he was chairman and member of the board of trustees of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Nigerian Council) and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

President Tinubu thanked the old board members for their dedicated service to NNPC Limited, particularly their efforts in rehabilitating the old Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, which enabled them to resume petroleum product production after prolonged shutdowns.

Edo governorship election: Tribunal delivers judgment in PDP’s petition

    Flowerbudnews

The Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will on Wednesday, deliver judgment in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, against the Sept. 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo.

The PDP and Ighodalo are challenging the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Sen. Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the poll.

They alleged that the election was marred by irregularities.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, had, on March 3, reserved judgment in the petition after parties adopted their final written addresses.
The tribunal will deliver judgment in the three petitions marked: EPT/ED/GOV/01/2024, EPT/ED/GOV/02/2024 and EPT/ED/GOV/03/2024.
NAN reports that the tribunal had, on Jan. 31, admitted in evidence, 148 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System Machines (BVAS) that were used during the conduct of the disputed governorship poll.
The electronic devices were tendered by a Senior Technical Officer in the ICT Department of INEC, Anthony Itodo, and admitted in evidence by the panel.
The petitioners had subpoenaed INEC to produce the BVAS machines that were used in 133 polling units where election results are being disputed.
INEC had declared that Okpebholo of the APC secured a total of 291, 667 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ighodalo of the PDP, who got a total of 247, 655 votes.
Dissatisfied with the outcome of the poll, the PDP and its candidate approached the tribunal, praying it to nullify INEC’s declaration of the APC and Okpebholo as winners of the contest.
The petitioners, among other things, contended that the governorship election was invalid because of alleged non-compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.
However, APC and Okpebholo urged the tribunal to dismiss the petitions for being baseless, arguing that the petitioners had failed to substantiate the allegations in their petitions..

The Tinubu Stakeholders Forum (TSF) has hailed the successful raising of N100 billion by the MOFI Real Estate Investment Fund (MREIF) through its fully subscribed Series 2 issuance.

In a statement signed by its Chairman Ahmad Sajoh and Secretary Afolabi Josiah, it described the milestone, achieved through private sector participation, as a significant step which underscores the pragmatic economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The statement read in part, “This achievement is part of MREIF’s broader N250 billion pilot fundraising initiative, aimed at facilitating accessible housing finance solutions for Nigerians.

“For us, the strong institutional investor confidence in the issuance, as reflected by its Aaa rating from Agusto & Co. and an AA rating from Global Credit Rating (GCR), reaffirms the credibility and effectiveness of the fund’s structure.

“The Tinubu administration’s approach to housing development goes beyond merely constructing houses; it prioritizes creating a sustainable financial ecosystem that allows Nigerians to acquire homes at affordable credit rates.

“By leveraging private sector investments, the federal government is strategically optimizing resources while ensuring that public funds previously earmarked for social housing can now be redirected towards other critical capital projects that drive national growth and development.

“We remain confident in the President’s strategic policies and reaffirm our unwavering support for his administration’s vision of economic transformation and national prosperity.

“The TSF recognizes this development as a clear indication of the administration’s commitment to improving the living standards of Nigerians through innovative financial mechanisms that support homeownership.”

The Companion condemns killing of hunters in Edo

    Flowerbudnews

The Companion, an association of Muslim men in business and professions, has condemned in strong terms the unfortunate killing of hunters while on transit in Edo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 16 northern hunters, who were travelling, were said to have been killed and lynched in Uromi in Edo on Friday for allegedly being kidnappers.

The National Amir of the organisation, Mr Kamil Olalekan, and the National Publicity Secretary, Muideen Adeleke, stated this on Sunday in a joint statement on the occasion of the 1446 AH (2025) Id-el-Fitr.

“We condemn in strong terms the recent barbaric act of extrajudicial killing of innocent hunters in Uromi, Edo .

“We pray to Allah to grant the victims the status of martyrs even as we caution against any form of reprisal attack,” the group remarked.

The association urged the Federal Government to declare forthwith a state of emergency on security.

It also urged the federal government to ensure adequate regulation of the activities of local vigilante groups to guard against excesses, impunity, abuse and the resort to self- help which has fastly become the hallmark of community policing in the country.

“We hereby commiserate with the families, friends and indeed the Muslim Ummah on the unfortunate incident even as the organisation preaches against all forms of reprisal attack to sustain the unity of the nation,” it said.

The association charged adherents of Islam in Nigeria and the world over to sustain the virtues of piety, faithfulness, steadfastness and charity beyond the month of Ramadan.

The group congratulated Muslims globally for the successful completion of one of the all-important five pillars of Islam during which adherents jostle to curry the mercy of Allah through devotional activities and charity.
“The Companion wishes to congratulate all adherents of Islam in Nigeria and indeed, all over the world for successfully navigating through the 1446 AH (2025) Ramadan and charges them to sustain the spirit beyond the holy month,” the statement read.
The foremost Islamic group described Ramadan as “a precious window of grace, during which the followers of Prophet Muhammad (Solla Lhahu alaehi wa salaam) attain the highest level of spiritual rebirth, required to navigate the journey of life in line with the injunctions of Allah.
“The Companion enjoins a strict exhibition of piety as demonstrated by individual Muslims throughout the just-concluded Ramadan fast, in their public and private life, to attain the pleasure of their Creator.
“It’s imperative for the adherents of Islam to ensure the replication of the pristine piety associated with Ramadan in all their affairs, so as to earn the pleasure of Almighty Allah.”
The Islamic group noted the high rate of inflation occasioned by the increasing cost of essential goods and food.

It, however, encouraged Muslims to intensify the meritorious act of charity demonstrated during the holy month, through payment of “Zakat” annually, as well as through regular offering of “Sadaqat.”
