Kwanta, who was represented by the Chief Environmental Officer of the ministry, Abubakar Mohammed, said that the special inspection team had become necessary to fish out those who might be sabotaging the exercise.

He warned the various sanitation teams against sabotaging the efforts of the state government to keep the state clean, adding that anybody found culpable of insubordination would be dealt with in according with the civil service rule.

Kwanta, however, said that the exercise recorded 80 per cent compliance in the state.

“We have sent a special inspection team to various places to observe the activities of the sanitation teams, and they will just appear like ordinary people to monitor their activities and bring feedback.

“That is the strategy we have adopted this time around, and from all indications, there’s a great improvement in Lafia. I can assure you that we have 80 per cent compliance,” he said.

Verdict: Sen. Marafa urges opposition to bury hatchet, support Tinubu

    By Salisu Sani-Idris

Sen. Kabiru Marafa, on Sunday urged opposition political parties to bury the hacthet and support President Bola Tinubu’s administration to move the country forward.

Marafa gave the advice in an interview with the State House Correspondents shortly after he paid a solidarity visit to Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that governing a complex country like Nigeria required all hands on deck to succeed.

Marafa said,  ” My prayer and wish for the opposition is to forget their differences and join hands with President Bola Tinubu to move the country forward, especially given the problems we have across the nation.

” So, we need all hands on deck now. It is over. They have done what they are supposed to have done.

“The constitution gives them inherent rights to challenge the victory. But with the verdict of the apex court, the battle is over.

” Like the president said, he is going to concentrate on his job without giving anybody any opportunity to distract him.

“So, on their part, I wish they would join hands with Mr. President to move the country forward.”

The former lawmaker recalled that when he lost his re-election bid, he congratulated the person who defeated him.

He added, “And i promised that the best thing that I can give the people of Zamfara Central is to cooperate with whoever they choose to be their Senator to move the zone forward.

” Because they elected me twice and I won convincingly in the two elections. So, if now somebody says I lost, I think I should accept the fact that in any game, there are winners and there are losers.

” Yesterday, I was the winner and today, I lost. I should accept it and move forward, tomorrow is another day. So, I expect also at national level for our elders to do the same.”

Marafa said that the opposition political parties had exhausted their rights, urging, “So, it is over. Let us now move to building Nigeria. Let us now look at the plight of the masses.

” You know things are very difficult and hard, which is occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy which is a must. I was the Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Petroleum Downstream.

” So, I know what is happening in the area. Also, the rate of the dollar is adding to the difficulties in the country. ”

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Charles Igwe,

    By Hilary Akalugwu

The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), says it admitted only 30 per cent of prospective candidates who applied for admission for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Charles Igwe, made the disclosure on Saturday in Nsukka during the university’s 49th matriculation ceremony in which 10,000 students took the matriculation vow.

Igwe told the admitted students to count themselves lucky for gaining admission into the institution which has remained competitive over the years.

“This is due to the institution’s good reputation and academic records.

“You should be proud of gaining admission into this university of your dreams as only 30 per cent of candidates who applied were admitted,” he said.

The vice chancellor noted that UNN remains one of the biggest and most respected universities in the country.

“Our philosophy is to seek, teach and preach the truth while restoring the dignity of man,” he said.

‘This is why we place high premium on character and learning, awarding degrees, diplomas and certificates to those found worthy in character and learning,” he said.

He warned the students to avoid any form of secret cultism as the university has zero tolerance to the menace.

“Any student found to be involved in secret cult activities will be expelled and handed over to the police for prosecution.

“Students are expected to belong to organisations and associations recognised by the institution’s department of students affairs.

“You should also avoid the use of illicit drugs or engaging in cybercrimes while avoiding groups that would lead you into such temptations,” he said.

Igwe reminded them that the journey towards attaining first class degrees on graduation has started and could be achieved through hardwork and dedication to studies.

“You will determine the kind of grade to make on graduation as the way you make your bed is the way you lie on it,” he said.

Some students interviewed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) thanked God for making it possible for them to gain admission into the institution.

They expressed appreciation to their parents for investing in their education and promised to make them proud by graduating with flying colours.
