Five Distinguished Personalities on Saturday bagged Honorary Doctorate Degree Awards at the 8th Convocation Ceremony of Federal University Lokoja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the awardees are, an Educationist, Dr Gladys Adesuwa-Makoju, Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D Sc.) and His Eminence Most Rev. John Onaiyekan, Honorary Degree of Doctor of (D.Litt.)
Others are: His Eminence Alhaji Ibrahim Idris; Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt), Dr. Mujidat Tinubu-OJo, Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) and Alhaji Saleh Ahmadu, OON, Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.).
Shortly before Makoju, was decorated her husband’s foundation, Joseph Makoju Foundation (JOM), announced various awards to students, who performed excellently in the field of STEM and Inovativeness of Federal University Lokoja.
Her son, Mr Enesi Makoju, Managing Director/CEO, JOM Foundation, said that the award tagged: “Joseph Oyeyani Makoju Award of Excellence” was with the sole agreement of the foundation Board of Trustees.
He gave the awards as, Overall Best Female Graduating Student in STEM and Inovativeness (N200,000), Overall Best Female Graduating Student in Engineering/Technology and Innovation (Undergraduate) (N150,000) and
Overall Best Male Graduating Student in Engineering and Technology (150,000).
Makoju also announced a
Grant for Doctorial Research of (N100,000,000) per annum for three years and other expenses up to the tune of N500,000 annually that would be considered as the need arises.
“These awards will serve as incentives for students to excel not only in these fields but also toward the attainment of the most desired gender equity, particularly in STEM and Inovativeness.
“We look forward to preserving this award at the next convocation.
“We once again pledge our commitment to ensuring the sustainability of these awards in these fields as long as it makes the desired impact, ” Makoju said.
On the Endowed Prizes and Scholarships, Miss Beauty Ene-Ojo, emerged the overall best graduating student of the 2022/2023 session to clinch the Vice Chancellor’s Prize with a 4.92 CGPA (B.Sc. Economic).
Ene-Ojo also clinched the Vice Chancellor’s Prize for the Best Graduating female student and the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Economic.
The Babajide Kolade-Otitoju of Journalists Hangout (TVC) Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Mass Communication went to Khadija Blessing-Mohammed CGPA 4.27.
Prof. Sam Egwu prize for the best graduating student in Political Science went to Joshua Obamina-Christopher CGPA 4.73, while Prof. Olu-Obafemi prize for the best graduating student in English and Literary Studies went to Peter Oluwale-Oyelabi CGPA 4.25 NAN
