FRSC launches operation to checkmate road traffic crashes in Enugu
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Tuesday, launched a Special Intervention Patrol Operation in Enugu, vowing zero tolerance and stoppage of road traffic crashes within road corridors in Enugu State.
The Special Intervention Patrol Operation, which is code-named: “Kwushi Ihe Mberede Okporouzo na Enugu” (meaning Stop Road Traffic Crashes in Enugu), is designed to proactively checkmate all incidents leading to road road traffic crashes in Enugu State.
Launching the operation in Enugu, the FRSC Sector Commander in in Enugu, CC Franklin Agbakoba, ably represented by Deputy Corps Commander in-charge of Operations, DCC Kyrian Okolo, said that Operation ‘Kwushi Ihe Mberede Okporouzo’ was tailored to address the peculiar road safety challenges in Enugu State and FRSC Enugu Zonal road corridors. .
He said that the coordinated intervention manifests the Corps’ resolve to confront specific traffic violations through intelligence-driven enforcement, robust public enlightenment, enhanced operational visibility, stakeholder engagement and collaboration with sister security agencies.
According to him, all these well planned operational actions would confront persistent causes of road traffic crashes, reduce road traffic crashes, save lives and make Enugu State roads safer for all.
He noted that the operation would focus on some road violations, which included: overloading of vehicles and mix leading, checkmate drivers without driver’s license and speed limiting device.
“It will also focus on route violation, dangerous driving, use of phone while driving, driving with a defaced Number plate as well as wind screen and wiper violation,” he said.
The FRSC boss said that the operational initiative was meant to address peculiar crash trends through intensive enforcement, sustained public education, stakeholder engagement, rescue preparedness and enhanced operational visibility.
“It is designed to achieve measurable reductions in road traffic crashes by focusing on offences that have continued to claim innocent lives on road corridors in Enugu State.
“This initiative is a decisive shift from conventional enforcement to targeted, intelligence-led operations capable of delivering greater impact.
“The operation has been carefully designed to confront specific dangerous behaviours responsible for avoidable deaths and injuries,” he said.
