PDP appoints new leader in Delta, asks Governor to vacate seat

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to vacate his seat.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and others last week left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the first meeting of the party leaders after the defection, the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) said the party hds instructed its National Legal Adviser to approach the court “and do the needful”.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Damagum said the move was part of the outcome of the meeting of the NWC.

The PDP national leadership also directed the Emma Ogidi-led South-South Zonal caretaker executive to take charge of the running of the party affair in Delta state pending the constitution of a caretaker committee.

The zonal committee was therefore mandated to move to Delta and take stock of the party inventory towards recovering them.

Damagum affirmed that the NWC deliberated on the recommendations of the state governors on the position of the National Secretary and approved the recommendation of the Governors Forum to allow the National Executive Committee (NEC) to have the final say.

  • Leadership crisis: Court fines Anyanwu for stalling judgment in suit against PDP

Leadership crisis: Court fines Anyanwu for stalling judgment in suit against PDP

    By

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, awarded a N150, 000 fine against Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s National Secretary, for stalling the judgment in his suit filed to challenge his planned removal.

Justice Inyang Ekwo awarded the fine after Anyanwu’s lawyer, Ken Njemanze, SAN, begged the court that he had just filed a motion to amend the suit, notwithstanding that the matter was fixed for judgment.

Justice Ekwo, who fixed May 19 for hearing of the motion, ordered that the fine be paid before the next adjourned date.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Ekwo had, on March 25, fixed today for the judgment in Anyanwu’s suit seeking to stop his removal as PDP’s national secretary.

The judge fixed the date after Njemanze and defence lawyers adopted their processes and presented their arguments for and against the suit.

Justice Ekwo also ordered Njemanze to make available to the court within seven days of the order the judgement of the Supreme Court delivered on March 21.

NAN reports that the Supreme Court had, on March 21, set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, delivered on Dec. 20, 2024, which affirmed the removal of Anyanwu as the national secretary of PDP.

In a unanimous judgment by a five-member panel, the apex court ruled that matters concerning the leadership or membership of a political party are internal affairs and should not be subject to judicial intervention.

It held that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter initially brought by Aniagwu Emmanuel, a member of the party.

However, the judgment, expected to bring an end to the crisis, had left the PDP leadership and members in disarray, as the two main parties in the suit; Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, now claim to be valid national secretary after the apex court decision.
Meanwhile, Anyanwu, in the instant suit, had originally sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Umar Damagun, the acting National Chairman of PDP, as 1st and 2nd defendants.
In the ex-parte motion: marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/254/2025 dated and filed on Feb. 13 by Njemanze, Anyanwu sought two prayers.
He sought an order of interim injunction, restraining INEC from accepting, acting on or giving effect to any correspondence from the PDP not signed by him pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.
He also sought an order of interim injunction restraining Damagun from dispatching to INEC any correspondence purportedly emanating from PDP signed by the acting chair and not counter signed by him.
However, the court had, on Feb. 28, joined the PDP and Udeh-Okoye in the suit as 3rd and 4th defendants.
The judge equally joined Dr Ali Odela and Mr Setonji Koshoedo as 5th and 6th defendants respectively.
While Odela is said to be the national vice chairman, PDP’s South East; Koshoedo is said to be the deputy national secretary of the party.
Earlier when the matter was called, Njemanze acknowledged that the matter was fixed for judgment.
The senior lawyer, however, said that he had a motion to amend their originating process to correct the issue for determination.
“After the matter was fixed for judgment and on the date of judgment, you bring an application for amendment?” the judge asked.
Responding, Njemanze said that by virtue of Order 17, Rule 1 of the Federal High Court, the court is conferred with the discretionary power to amend any process before judgment.
The judge then asked lawyers representing the defendants of they had been served.
While INEC’s lawyer, Ahmed Mohammed acknowledged being, he said they did not intend to respond.
Akintayo Balogun, who appeared for Damagun, said though they were served on Thursday (April 24), the application cannot be taken because the business of the day was for judgment.
According to him, this application seeks to arrest the judgment of this court.
When the judge asked if they had responded, Balogun said: “We have not reacted because we are still within time.”
E.E. Ekere, who represented Udeh-Okoye, said they were served on April 24 and planned to respond.
Koshoedo’s counsel, J.A. Musa, however, told the court that they had not been served.
But Njemanze insisted that all the defendants had been served according to information at his disposal.
Justice Ekwo consequently adjourned the matter until May 19 for hearing of the motion.
“However, since the matter has been fixed for judgment and proceeding of court has been disrupted, I make an order that the learner silk for the plaintiff to pay a fine of N150, 000.
“And the said fine to be paid before the next adjourned date,” the judge ruled.

Defection: PDP Undergoing Rebirth – Saraki, Vows; we’ll reposition PDP

    bukola saraki

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has assured members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the main opposition party will rebound.

The Waziri of Ilorin made this known in a statement while reacting to the recent wave of defections from the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday, formally defected from PDP to APC.

Reacting, Saraki said those who wish to leave the party “should leave now” while the faithful ones “concentrate on rebuilding the party and refocusing it to play the role of a viable opposition that will provide a better alternative for the good people of Nigeria.”

The statement read: “I am convinced that it is important for all Nigerians to work for the sustenance of democracy. And to sustain democracy, there must be viable choices for people at every point.

“Also, there must be a viable opposition to keep people’s hope alive and create credible alternatives to keep the government on its toes.

“A one-party state as being disingenuously designed by some people will not augur well for a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-cultural, multi-religious, and highly diversified society like ours. It is even more dangerous when we eliminate alternatives and make people hopeless.

“Therefore, it is in the interest of Nigeria and the survival of our democracy for the opposition to be vibrant and strong enough with the capacity to replace the ruling party at any point.

“Thus, my charge to our party members is that the PDP is merely experiencing a rebirth. Those who want to leave the party should go and let those of us remaining have a clear view of who we are talking to and where their political loyalty lies.

“All we need is for those who want to stay back in PDP to show commitment and we can all work to rebuild the party.

“This development has vindicated the stance of people like me who have decided to remain silent and watch events unfold. I have seen that there was no sincerity with supposed leaders of the opposition. One was not sure of the next person one was talking to.

“My appeal to PDP members nationwide is that we should know that the sustenance of democracy is not a sprint. Rather, it is a marathon. It is not a knock-out football match series. It is a league. 24 hours is a long time in politics and nobody can predict how the dynamics will evolve in the coming weeks and months.

“That is why PDP members across the country should not be discouraged, disillusioned, disappointed, or demoralised by the development in Delta State. We should stay strong and focus on strengthening the party. It is not necessary at this point to lament why they left.”

2027 Is APC vs Nigeria – Damagum, Says Oborevwori, Okowa’s Defection Sad And Unfortunate,

    Flowerbudnews
The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has expressed disappointment with the decision of the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and the party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Damagum expressed surprise at the defections, saying Delta state was expected to remain loyal to the PDP because the party had been good to the state.

The PDP Chairman expressed his views on the defection for the first time on Thursday at the presentation of the certificate of return to the party’s governorship candidate for the November 8 election in Anambra State, Ambassador Jude Ezenwafor.

Damagum, however, expressed optimism that the PDP would be victorious in the 2027 polls despite the defections because the elections are about Nigerians and the APC.

He said, “If there is any state that shouldn’t have remained loyal to the party, it is not Delta, because the party has been very magnanimous.”

    APC vs Nigeria

Damagum emphasized that the number of governors would not determine the outcome of the next election, citing how Peter Obi, despite having no governors, was able to gather significant votes in the 2023 election.

He further accused President Bola Tinubu of using coercion, intimidation, and persuasion to lure PDP members to the APC, adding that Nigerians are suffering due to the harsh policies of the current government.

“So I want to use this opportunity to tell Nigerians that this election is theirs. It is APC versus Nigerians. It is not APC versus any governor or senator, but APC versus Nigerians.

“We know there is a limit to what one can do beyond what God has designed. You may have your own tactics, but you cannot outplay God. We leave our fate in the hands of God, and we believe He will help us out of this great situation,” Damagum said.

    Anambra 2025

Damagum expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge victorious in the 2025 Anambra governorship election and urged the party’s candidate to remain committed and resilient.

“I know it is not easy, but your commitment, belief, and sincerity will see us through this election. Victory will be yours.

“I want to encourage you. You have started well. From the evolution of the state executive to your emergence as our candidate, I believe you need to go back and consolidate. I’m going to make sure that everyone is back on board. I assure you of our total support and commitment,” he added.

    Courtesy: Punch

According to PUNCH, Timothy Osadolor, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has publicly criticized Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno and another unnamed party member for their recent political endorsements, asserting that they lack the authority to dictate the party’s direction as it approaches the 2027 elections.

In an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Osadolor emphasized the strong support for the PDP in Akwa Ibom, stating, “If there is a state that is 100 per cent PDP, that state is Akwa Ibom. Mr. Eno is the governor of the state, but he is not in a position to decide the political direction of PDP members in the state.”

Osadolor further clarified that Eno’s endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a personal decision that does not reflect the views of the party. “His endorsement of President Tinubu is personal to him and has nothing to do with our party,” he asserted, reinforcing the idea that the party’s collective stance should not be overshadowed by individual opinions.

The comments from Osadolor come amid growing tensions within the PDP regarding the political strategies of its members, particularly in key states like Akwa Ibom. His remarks highlight the importance of unity and collective decision-making as the party prepares for the upcoming elections.

As the PDP navigates its political landscape, Osadolor’s statements serve as a reminder of the need for party members to align their actions with the broader goals of the organization, ensuring that individual endorsements do not disrupt the party’s cohesion and electoral strategy.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia has expressed its optimism regarding the party’s resurgence to regain its past prominence in Abia State and throughout Nigeria by 2027.

The chairman of the party in Abia State, Elder Abraham Amah, made this announcement on Sunday during a stakeholders meeting in Abia North, which took place at the residence of the representative for Ohafia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mandela Obasi.

In a meeting with stakeholders from Abia North, the host, Obasi, expressed confidence that the PDP will secure a greater number of House of Assembly members, senators, and House of Representatives members in 2027.

He encouraged party members to remain steadfast and assured them of his unwavering support for the party in the region.

The gathering also included notable figures such as the party’s legal adviser, Ukpai Ukairo, the PDP Legal Adviser for the South East and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Asuoha, Abia North PDP chairman, Okereke Elendu, former House of Representatives member for Arochukwu Federal Constituency, Uko Nkole, and Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Chinedu Ndubuisi from Bende South State Constituency, among others.

They affirmed the party’s stability, highlighting its robust structures and its status as the most democratic party in the nation. The attendees emphasised the importance of unity among members to achieve significant successes in 2027, despite the recent defections of some individuals, and urged party leaders to remain attentive to the concerns of their constituents.

Amah said, “PDP will rise again. We have what it takes to win. Give us the candidate elected by the people, and we will win the election. If you give tickets to the choice of the people, we will win the majority of the positions in the state House of Assembly.

“Under my watch, anybody who undertakes any step to sell this party will suffer its consequences. The only saving grace is that if you don’t like PDP, step out. I have absolute confidence that we will succeed as a party.”

Following comprehensive discussions regarding the party’s current status, future prospects, and strategic direction, a statement endorsed by 40 dedicated members reaffirmed their dedication to the unity, advancement, and overall welfare of the PDP in Abia State.

They expressed their determination to “work diligently to ensure that the PDP regains control of the Abia State Government House by 2027.”

Additionally, they extended their unwavering support for Elder Abraham Amah and praised the State Working Committee for its efforts in revitalising the party.

“We stand solidly behind Elder Abraham Amah in his bold and strategic leadership of the party and pledge our total loyalty and cooperation to his administration,” the communique stated.

They called on all party members and leaders across the Abia North zone to close ranks, eschew all divisive tendencies, and work together in the spirit of brotherhood and unity for the progress of the party, pleading, “We encourage greater participation of youths and women in party activities, in line with our belief in inclusive leadership and generational synergy”.

They commended the PDP caucus in the Abia State House of Assembly and urged them to continue playing their oversight role diligently while remaining true to the party’s ambassadors.

The meeting also resolved to establish local strategy and reconciliation committees across Abia North to harmonise interests, address unresolved issues, and ensure a united front for restoring PDP’s political dominance in the zone and the state at large.

  • Show Of Strength As Onyeme Leads PDP On ‘Thank You’ Tour

Show Of Strength As Onyeme Leads PDP On ‘Thank You’ Tour

    By Fidelis Egugbo

FLOWERBUDNEWS:  Politics is about strength, and it is a fact that the end of an election is the beginning of another. This is largely because, at the end of every election, all the political players, whether winners or losers, return to the drawing board to analyze what either gave them victory or caused their loss, and, by such engagement, commence preparations for future elections, especially in a democratic setting where the schedules of elections are certain.

One could still recall vividly that during the 2023 general elections, like a tsunami, the “Obedient Movement” of Labour Party came on board just like the “Change” mantra of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that jolted the Nigerian political landscape in 2015. In all, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remained the target.

As things stand at the moment, the PDP is obviously the only political party that has survived the onslaught of political upheavals since the emergence of the present democracy in 1999. Every other political party has either gone into extinction, merged or had their names changed. As such, the PDP is the only political party that is giving hope to Nigerians that democracy will survive, that is if anti-democratic forces do not succeed in crippling it as could be seen from the recent revocation of its Certificate of Occupancy regarding its landed property in Abuja, and the unspoken ongoing antics aimed, possibly, at ensuring that it does not function in some parts of the country.

There is no doubt that the existence of the PDP will continue to pose a threat to anti-democratic forces because of its ideals and its umbrella stature of welcoming all Nigerians who are interested in sustaining the country’s civil rule. Time really shall tell as we move towards the 2027 general elections.

One state that the PDP can authoritatively lay claim to as its own is Delta . Right from its formative stages by the likes of Senator Nosike Ikpo, Chief Francis Nwajei, Senator Patrick Osakwe, Sen. Fred Brume, Sen. Stella Omu and others, to the emergence of Chief James Onanefe Ibori as the Governor of Delta State in 1999 (following the haste with which the last military junta led by General Abdusalami Abubakar insisted on leaving office and handing over to a civilian administration), the PDP has remained very strong in the state.

In fact, no other political party is functioning effectively in Delta State.
Chief James Ibori, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, Chief Benjamin Elue, Chief Godwill Obielum, Chief Emma Ejiofor, Sen. James Manager, Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi and several others who have played active roles in the party, many of whom are still playing roles in the party will never want the political party that gave them the platform to be recognized as active politicians to die; it is just not possible.

Before now, what we used to witness in the PDP Delta State was that before the general elections, the primaries of the party to produce who emerges as its candidate for any election were always tougher than the general elections, simply because, whoever emerged as the PDP candidate would, almost always, eventually emerge victorious in the main elections. In some cases, the leadership of the party, out of magnanimity for full semblance of representative democracy, allowed some candidates to win in other political parties like the Justice Party, “ACCORDINGLY” for there to be minority leaders and so forth. But in all, by the arrangement within the PDP, democracy in Delta State is simply a family affair and a model for other states to emulate.

Today, we have heard about some persons moving to other political parties, especially, moving from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC); to some of us event watchers, such movements are not new. The Senator representing Delta North today at the Red Chambers, Sen. Ned Nwoko, has severally contested the primaries of the PDP and whenever he lost the election, he would go and try his luck on another political party’s platform and still return to the PDP.

Luckily for him, after several movements from one party to the other, he emerged a Senator on the platform of the PDP; no doubt, he will have to return to the PDP to enable him get reelected to the Senate if he desires that.

One cannot forget in a haste one of the Delta North Senatorial Primaries of the PDP held at the Oshimili Arcade, Asaba, where Sen. Nwoko was a great opponent of Senator Patrick Osakwe. Osakwe was a maverick politician as a renowned promoter of pools betting (Flash Pools), astute businessman, and multi-millionaire with tentacles spread across aviation sports, agriculture, (he was the owner of Flash Airline, Flash Flamingos Football Club, Evidence Motors, Evidence Farms, Nsukwa), hospitality business, among others. During the primaries, there was an issue of someone illegally bringing a gun (or did I hear you say, guns? ) to the venue, thus triggering panic. But, thank God that nothing untoward happened.

The beauty of democracy is that at the end, Senator Osakwe was returned to the Senate by the people of Delta North.

Time may not be enough to look at the political antecedents of Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru whom then Governor James Ibori of PDP organized a lavish reception for as a true Deltan and, because of the reception, some people convinced him that he was so popular that he could become the Governor of Delta State (if he contested the governorship poll and against his benefactor, Chief James Ibori) which made him to pitch tent with the Alliance for Democracy (AD), a platform that gave then Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu the governorship ticket of Lagos State.

With time, we will x-ray how many political parties that Chief Great Ogboru has used as platforms to pursue that elusive dream of becoming the Governor of Delta State which may put him in the Guinness Book of Records as the man who lost the most governorship elections on the tickets of different political parties in Nigeria. But for fate which made Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC to get victory against Sen. Ighoyota Amori of the PDP through the court, maybe Chief Ogboru could have vied the position of who lost elections the most using different political platforms with Sen. Omo-Agege. And what a contest that could have been!

Well, that again, is the beauty of democracy in Delta State where you move to other political parties to be beaten at the polls by candidates of the PDP.

Today, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is the Governor of Delta State; he did not emerge because he was loved by all Deltans or that he is the most hated politician in the state but because, he survived the gubernatorial primaries of the PDP as entrenched through the era of Chief James Ibori. Yes! Most of us may still recall how Chief James Ibori of the PDP battled Mr Moses Kragha of the All Peoples Party (APP) to emerge Governor in 1999. It was because of the fact that he belongs to the PDP, which is entrenched at the grassroot.

Chief James Ibori, certainly, will be happy that someone whom he discovered politically, (Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori) has become the Governor of Delta State and he is performing very well because of the tutelage he got from him, his successor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and a member of his political family, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, before his emergence as the Governor of Delta State.

In all the three administrations before him, Rt. Hon. Oborevwori held several key positions in government which prepared him for the effective management of the state that he is doing today.

Some of those political gladiators who are leaving the PDP for other political parties are mainly doing so for either “stomach infrastructure,” or to hustle, as we say in our local parlance, not really because they hope to unseat the PDP as the dominant political party in Delta State. This is why after their sojourn in other political parties, they will return to the PDP, their political family that always provides the umbrella cover for them.

Some people have linked the warm relationship between Chief Ibori and President Bola Tinubu as what can upturn the fortunes of the PDP in the state. Regarding this, one can only but smile because, both Ibori and Tinubu were Governors from 1999 to 2007; so, in a lot of ways, they were colleagues and who will not be happy to associate with someone who has risen to the peak of politics in Nigeria when you share a common history? The truth is that both of them are also happy with the stable polity in Delta State and President Tinubu is aware of how strong the PDP is in Delta, bearing in mind how he tried to expand the Alliance for Democracy (AD) through Chief Great Ogboru in the 2003 elections. Anyway, as a democrat, the President will always allow Deltans to freely vote for their preferred persons, most probably PDP candidates, but that will not stop him from patronizing Deltans in terms of political patronage as a true democrat.

This is so because, even in Delta, after the emergence of Rt. Hon. Oborevwori as Governor, he is no longer playing party politics but delivering democratic dividends to all Deltans, including giving political appointments and other patronage to people who were perceived to be political opponents. The time for opposition politics is over as he has emerged as the Governor of Delta State, not the Governor of the PDP. So, he will be happy to also consult those who provided the ladder for him to climb politically, Chief James Ibori, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, Sen. Dr. Okowa, among others. When these men meet to take decision about the affairs of Delta State, most of us may not be there but the most important thing is that they can only be proud of what Governor Oborevwori is doing in terms of transforming the fortunes of the state. Come to think of it, who will not be happy that his son has emerged King? This is because if you are the father of the King, it is also, natural that you accord him that respect as King. This is why Delta is stable, peaceful, and progressive without so much fighting among the political leaders, who, in a lot of ways, know themselves.

Despite the fact that Deltans have accepted the fact that whoever the PDP fields as its candidate in any election, will naturally earn their thumbprint, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, in a rare move, led members of the PDP who are holding elective and appointive positions in Ndokwa West to move round all the wards/communities in the loca government on a “thank you visit.”

The three -day visit, which ended on Saturday, March 22, 2025 could be described as a show of strength, especially, with the display of letters by few individuals about their resignation from the PDP. As stated earlier, such display of letters was to boost their profile to get patronage from the All Progressives Congress (APC) either at the national level or the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC); otherwise, hardly is it possible for a politician who is not holding any political office to be brandishing a letter of resignation from a political party on the social media. The letters of resignation could be termed, “application letter for political patronage by APC.”

During the visits by Sir Onyeme and his team, one message that was very obvious was that PDP is still very much on ground with the crowd that came out to receive them. From Ogume where they commenced their visit to Onicha-Ukwuani, to Abbi, Emu, Utagba-Ogbe (Kwale), to Utagba-Uno, Etua and Ndemili, the message was the same- Delta, especially, Ndokwa West is home of the PDP.

Surprisingly, the visit included the donation of the sum of fifty thousand naira (N50,000) to fifty (50) persons in each of the ten (10) wards visited apart from Ward one with most of the polling units where one hundred (100) persons got N50,000 each.

The Deputy Governor disclosed that the money was to assist the beneficiaries who cut across political lines, including those who have nothing to do with politics, in their businesses.

This gesture has, in no little way, showcased the PDP as a party that is for all Deltans, no matter the political leaning or ethnic background.

Some analysts like Pastor Chuks Agidigbo, described what happened as a ” show of love to those who came out and sent you out to represent them with their voter’s cards.”

He said, “democracy is about the people; so, I thank the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, for leading the PDP on the ‘thank you visit’

He added, “Elections are still far; so, this is not a campaign of any kind and from what I have observed during these visits, it has provided an opportunity for the Deputy Governor to tell the people what the government is doing and also feel the pulse of the people, and know how they feel about the government.”

No doubt, in Delta, since 1999, there is only one dominant political party in Delta State, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the leadership of the party is not taking the situation for granted, they keep providing the leadership that the people deserve, thereby, making the people happy always.

The thank you visit commenced on Thursday, March 20 and ended on Saturday, March 22, and it was evident that in our local parlance, that, “someone who is working in his farm can also, be appreciated.” So, despite the fact that PDP is Delta, Delta is PDP, Sir Onyeme led the party leadership on an appreciation tour. At the first point of call, Ogbe-Ogume (Ward 6), the crowd was such that one could wonder whether the day was a public holiday.

Yours sincerely was on the entourage of the Deputy Governor and the team was received by people in colourful attires dancing to live music been dished out by a Highlife music exponent, Sir Kendo, and that was what set what could be described as the standard to what one witnessed in other communities visited.

The Chairman of the party in the local government area, Chief Anslem Nzete who is popularly known as Igwe Dubai, noted that from what the Chairmen of the Party in the wards visited had done, there was no fear about the strength of the party at the ward level.

One noticeable development during the visits was that some of the few people who left the PDP for other political parties had started to return to the PDP fold and the Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, Elder Moses Iduh, and the Chairman of the party in Delta North Senatorial District, Engr. Dan Ossai were on ground to receive them, and assure them that they would not be discriminated against for temporarily leaving the party. Of course, such a development is not new which the Deputy Governor echoed, charging the chairmen of the different wards to ensure that such returnees were invited to PDP meetings and should have full benefits of belonging to the party.

Some of the returnees were blunt in saying that they left because they were deceived into believing that Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori would not deliver as a Governor but that they were surprised that in less than two years of being in office as Governor, Oborevwori had surpassed their expectations in the way he was managing the affairs of Delta State both in the provision of physical infrastructure and carrying all Deltans along in delivering democratic dividends.

Across the state, the achievements of Oborevwori’s administration are evident, and in Ndokwa West were the visits held, the people believe that the greatest of achievements of the Oborevwori’s administration was the emergence of Sir Onyeme as the Deputy Governor of Delta State. To the majority of Ndokwa people, it was like a case of “seek you first the Kingdom of God and every other thing would be added unto you.”

They believe that, having the number two citizen of the state from their area would ensure in particular the construction of link roads to the communities as the Ugiliama/Ossissa Road, Ossissa/Abala Road, generally, roads in Ndokwa East local government area, a long neglected area, despite being rich in oil and gas deposits.

The new lease of life, Deputy Governor Onyeme said, had started manifesting with the construction of Ndemili/Utagba-Uno road, Utagba-Uno/Eweshi road and the recent approval for the construction, Inam Abbi road. He told the people that if the roads and others could be approved for construction in less than two years of Rt. Hon. Oborevwori’s administration, it was possible that before the end of eight years administration of the governor, almost all, if not all the roads in Ndokwa land would have got the desired attention.

An analysis of the inter-communal roads begging for serious attention shows that they may not span more than 100 km of roads as some of them, like the Ossissa/Ugiliamai road which links two local government areas, Ndokwa West and Ndokwa East, are just about six kilometers.

Naturally, the people of Ndokwa West are happy that for the first time, they produced the Deputy Governor of the state after several efforts to produce the Governor of Delta State through such persons as Prof. Agume Eric Opia, Chief Otunuya Iwegbue (aka Okpondiogwu), Dr Joshua Enueme and Chief Godwill Obielum, among others, who are Ndokwa indigenes that had unsuccessfully contested for the governorship position.

The joy on the faces of the people in all the communities visited was palpable; obviously, they were either members or empathisers of the PDP, the only political party that has successfully entrenched itself among the people since the administration of Chief James Ibori as Governor of Delta State.

The leaders who accompanied the Deputy Governor on the tour included the member representing Ndokwa West Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu, the Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government, Hon. Obi Nzete, the Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Engr. Michael Anoka, the Managing Director of Delta State Oil -Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Festus Ochonogor, former member, House of Representatives, Hon. Sam Osasa, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Sir Christopher Osakwe, the immediate past Chairman of the PDP in the local government area, Ogbuefi Lucky Okuji, among others.

The days ahead will certainly be interesting, politically speaking.
But for sure, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Sir Monday Onyeme in the saddle of leadership, Delta is in safe hands.

    God bless Delta State.

PDP, Ighodalo insist on challenging tribunal decision after studying judgment CTC

    Flowerbudnews

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, have restated their commitment to appeal the April 2 decision of the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ighodalo contested in the governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sept. 21, 2024 on PDP’s platform.

The PDP Chairman in Edo, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, and Special Adviser on Media to Mr Ighodalo, Anthony Ehilebo, stated this on Sunday in Abuja after receiving the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the tribunal judgment.

Aziegbemi rejected the judgment describing it as “a miscarriage of justice that ignored overwhelming facts, twisted the law, and rewarded impunity.”

According to him, having received and studied the certified true copy of the judgment, the petitioners say they are now even more convinced that the tribunal turned the law on its head to protect a rigged process.
“The tribunal abandoned its constitutional duty to deliver justice and instead constituted itself into a ‘fourth respondent,’ inventing technicalities to sidestep the clear evidence of electoral malpractice placed before it.
“We have studied the CTC of the judgement. This judgment, with due respect to the judges involved, is a travesty.
“We are not deterred. We are proceeding to the Court of Appeal with the facts, the law, and the will of the Edo people firmly on our side,” Aziegbemi said.
Also speaking, Ehilebo said the public did not grasp the gravity of what happened in the governorship poll.
He alleged that “INEC failed to fill forms essential for guaranteeing the integrity of the elections; a responsibility the Supreme Court has said is a strict liability issue.”
According to him, that is what the tribunal has now endorsed.

“We are duty-bound to challenge this travesty at the appellate court,” he said.
A PDP chieftain, Goodluck Osaretin, said despite the tribunal’s ruling, the party maintained that “the mandate of the people remains with Asue Ighodalo.”

He said Gov. Monday Okpebholo, the APC candidate, extended an olive branch to Ighodalo, calling on him “to join hands in unity and to work together for the progress of Edo State.”

“The PDP remains unmoved. The issue of an olive branch is premature.
“We are talking about retrieving a stolen mandate. Asue is coming,” Osaretin said.
He said no tribunal could stop the will of the people.

BREAKING:  Wike Revokes PDP Headquarters Land Approval

    Flowerbudnews

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land approval for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Headquarters in Abuja.

The land contains a building intended to serve as the party’s new secretariat, though construction is still incomplete.

The revocation was communicated through a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagun.

According to the letter, the decision was based on the party’s failure to pay annual ground rents on the property for 20 years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025.

The FCT Administration had previously issued multiple public notices in national newspapers and electronic media since 2023, urging all landowners in the capital city to clear their outstanding payments.

The letter further stated that PDP’s non-compliance violated Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act, leading to the forfeiture of their rights over the property.

It added that as a result, the land, located at Plot No. 243, Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja, has now been reclaimed by the FCT Administration, which will take immediate possession of the property.
