Essiet said President Bola Tinubu prioritised grassroots engagement and had mandated her to interact directly with communities to better understand their concerns.

According to her, the federal government was intensifying efforts to ensure safety across all parts of the country.

She disclosed that a Citizens’ Assembly comprising youths and key stakeholders has been constituted and trained in intelligence gathering, documentation and reporting community concerns directly to the appropriate authorities.

Essiet added that representatives from the seven local government areas in Kwara South were present at the meeting to articulate their challenges and needs.

“We are in Kwara South to listen to the concerns of the people and relay them to the President,” she said.

She explained that the Citizens’ Assembly would provide a platform for engagement with religious leaders, traditional rulers, association heads, vigilantes and women leaders at the grassroots level.

The presidential aide urged residents to cooperate with security agencies, assuring them that concrete plans were in place to address the security challenges facing the country.

Essiet further warned against the payment of ransom to kidnappers, encouraging residents to report such incidents promptly to the appropriate authorities.

She assured stakeholders that the Tinubu administration would sustain community-based engagements to strengthen trust and collaboration.

    By Stephen Adeleye

Lokoja, Feb. 11, 2026 (FBN) The Kogi  Government says it will sanction  Churches found to be violating the state’s security protocols.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, gave the warning in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja,

Fanwo said the government would sanction churches operating beyond 4:00 pm or in vulnerable locations without security clearance, citing credible intelligence of planned attacks by bandits.

“The government  received intelligence of a plot to attack a church in Ijumu Local Government Area, and churches are being warned to comply with security directives to prevent attacks.

“We have observed with deep concern that in spite of  clear security advisories, some churches still operate late into the night. This is unacceptable in the face of prevailing security challenges,” Fanwo said.

Fanwo said security measures are in place to prevent the attack but the incident highlighted  the need for strict compliance with security directives.

The commissioner said the decision prioritised safety, not faith.

“Churches flouting the protocol pose  security risk. Security operatives will stop night services, focusing on prevention over emergency response.

“We prevent crime, we don’t just respond to it,” he stated.

He urged religious leaders to cooperate with security agencies, assuring residents of its commitment to safety and peace.

In a related development, Fanwo said the troops of the Nigerian Army have overrun a terrorist enclave, recovering over 2,000 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition and a box of high-velocity grenades.

According to him, the operation, led by the Commander 12 Brigade Nigerian Army’, Brig. -Gen. Kasim Sidi, has significantly degraded the operational capacity of the criminal network.

The operation, dismantled a camp linked to kingpins Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu. The camp was destroyed, denying terrorists a staging ground.

Fanwo gave an assurance that the state government is working with security agencies to end criminality, emphasising Gov. Ahmed Ododo’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

“We are calling on religious leaders to cooperate fully with security agencies.

“Our approach is not cowardice. We are mobilising security forces to overrun the criminals, and we are recording significant successes,” Fanwo said.

Represented by Assistant Commandant-General of NSCDC in-charge of Zone 13, ACG Cyprian Nwannukwu, assured the people of the council area of adequate deployment of committed personnel to the divisions and area command.

“With these great support and partnership of the chairman, council authorities and people of Igbo-Etiti; the NSCDC will reevaluate the security situation of this area and ensure adequate and round the clock security of the council.

“The Corps will ensure further equipping of the complexes with operational and logistics needs, while we are grateful for the brand new operational vehicle donated to the Area Command,” he said.

Speaking, the Commandant of NSCDC Enugu State Command, Dr Elijah Willie, appreciated the Commandant-General for approving expansion of the state’s division from 17 to 37 as well as expansion of the area command to seven.

“I am grateful to God Almighty using the Chairman of Igbo-Etiti to give us brand new and benefiting operational complexes, a vehicular support and other assistance as well as our C-G approving all of them,”  Willie said

Earlier, Odo said that Igbo-Etiti remained the first local government area in Enugu State, if not in Nigeria, to construct, equip and furnish a federal security infrastructure in three strategic locations simultaneously.

The chairman said that he was inspired by Gov. Peter Mbah to invest heavily in security; adding that “true peace is sustained — not by waiting for crime to happen, but by preventing it”.

“As a responsible government, we understand that no meaningful progress or development can take place in a chaotic and insecure environment.

“No investor whether local or foreign, will bring an investment let alone invest a dime in a place where security of lives and property is not guaranteed.

“Therefore, the commissioning of this NSCDC Area Command and Divisional Headquarters is a clear demonstration of our administration’s resolve and commitment to beef up security in Igbo-Etiti.

“It is a stern warning that all length and breath of our dear local government will no longer a soft target or hiding spot for criminals,” he said.

Odo noted that these facilities are one of the ways his administration had fulfilled its promise of adequate security to Igbo-Etiti people, adding: “We are not just solving today’s problems — we are protecting future generations”.

“Going forward, our administration will provide maintenance and logistical support to these commands, strengthen joint-security task forces, if need be, expand digital reporting and community intelligence gathering mechanisms and continue to invest in peace-building structures and youth empowerment.”

‎Decades of Stalled Careers: Police ’91 Set Call for Tinubu, PSC Intervention

    ‎By Adewale Owoade

‎Police officers enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1991 on Saturday staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan, Oyo State, calling on President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to intervene in what they described as decades of stalled career progression.

‎Speaking with journalists during the protest, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP I), who declined to be named, said officers of the 1991 recruitment set had spent over 30 years in service without receiving promotions as and when due, despite meeting all required conditions and appearing before the same promotion boards as their colleagues.

‎“We were enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1991, but since then, our promotions have not followed due process. It was only during the tenure of former IGP, Mustafa Adebayo Balogun, that some relief came after we spent about 11 years and six months on the rank of constable.

‎”In 2002, we were promoted to the rank of corporal. Since then, many of us have continued to experience stagnation at various stages of our careers,” he said.

‎The officer explained that in 2019, members of the 1991 set appeared before the promotion board alongside Cadet Inspectors and Inspector Cadets, noting that although they sat for the same examinations, different promotion dates were assigned when results were released.

‎“While Cadet Inspectors were given promotion dates backdated to 2009, our own promotions were dated 2020,” he stated.

‎According to him, although officers of the 1991 set were later promoted to the rank of ASP I, they were excluded when promotion to DSP rank Deputy superintendent of Police (DSP), was conducted.

‎“When it was time for promotion to DSP rank Deputy superintendent of Police (DSP), only Cadet Officers were promoted, even though we were meant to move together, as had been done previously, even if with different effective dates,” he added.

‎He disclosed that several petitions had been submitted to the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission, seeking redress, but none had yielded positive results.

‎The officer further noted that most officers enlisted in 1991 are due for retirement in 2026, expressing concern that many may leave the service without attaining the ranks they deserved after more than three decades of service.

‎The protesting officers also lamented that in December 2025, some junior officers were promoted to the rank of DSP, while members of the 1991 set were excluded.

‎They added that another promotion exercise had commenced this year without any consideration for their promotion to DSP rank Deputy superintendent of Police (DSP)

‎“Promotion exercises have started again, yet nothing has been released for us. We are appealing to the Inspector-General of Police to urgently look into our matter and approve our promotion before we retire from service,” the officer said.

‎He described the situation as a nationwide issue affecting officers enlisted in 1991 across the federation, stressing that the protest was aimed at drawing attention to what they described as persistent injustice.

‎“This is not just about Ibadan or Oyo State. Officers recruited in 1991 across the country are affected. We are only asking for fairness and the promotion we have earned after decades of dedicated service,” he said.

‎The officers warned that continued neglect could further dampen morale within the police force, urging the Federal Government, the IGP and the Police Service Commission to urgently address the matter in the interest of justice, equity and institutional integrity.
