Enugu:  Gov. Peter Mbah says Enugu State
Government has concluded plans to bolster the livestock industry through the creation of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones within the state.

Mbah revealed this during an address at Veterinary Medicine Alumni Homecoming and 1st Faculty Lecture Series titled: Amb Ogbonnaya Nduaka Inaugural Lecture at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) on Saturday.

Dr Ejike Oji, President of Dr Ejike Oji Community Development
Foundation, delivered the first lecture series on behalf of Amb.
    Ogbonnaya Nduaka family.

The governor, who was represented by the State Epidemiologist, Dr
Cosmas Omeh, said that the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones
would be established in each of the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to him, these zones will serve as strategic hubs for poultry and other livestock production, processing, and value addition; thus,
providing an enabling environment for increased productivity,
    technological advancements, and market access.

“By establishing these Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones, the
government aims to unlock the immense potential of our poultry and livestock industry, attract investments and promote job creation.

“These zones will facilitate the integration of various value chain
actors, including farmers, processors, distributors, and exporters, fostering collaboration and synergy among stakeholders for mutual
    growth and prosperity,” he said.

Mbah said that in addition to the establishment of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones, the government is already
implementing a comprehensive package of initiatives to uplift the
    poultry and livestock sector.

“These include access to affordable financing, improved veterinary
services, capacity-building programmes, and the promotion of research
and innovation as-well-as actively working to address challenges such as disease control, market access, and development of efficient supply chains,” he said.

The governor also announced that Enugu State is currently rated among the top three poultry-producing states in Nigeria.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the resilience and hard work of our veterinary services, poultry and livestock farmers, who have consistently demonstrated their dedication to excellence and quality.

“The government recognises their invaluable contributions and is
committed to providing them with the necessary support, infrastructure, and resources to thrive in an increasingly competitive market,” he said.

The governor urged the faculty of veterinary medicine and livestock
experts, academics, and policy-makers to join hands with the
government and work together to unlock the livestock industry’s full
    potential.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of UNN, Prof Charles Igwe, challenged
various alumni at faulty and department levels in the institution on
the need to give back to the society through investment and helping to uplift academic standard.

Igwe, who was represented by Prof Pat Okpoko, Deputy Vice-Chancellor,
Administration, commended the alumni for the home-coming event that
would enable them know the state of infrastructural development in
    their alma mater.

He pledged to give the alumni the necessary cooperation to enable the university to access whatever funds the alumni would attract
nationally and internationally as well as use the same fund
    judiciously for verifiable landmark projects.

“Best-ranking universities in the world like Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard among others are funded and equipped more by their alumni,” he said. (Flowerbudnews)

  • Hurry migration (Japa): Expert warns youths of inhuman, health-risky jobs overseas

Hurry migration (Japa): Expert warns youths of inhuman, health-risky jobs overseas

    By Flowerbudnews

Enugu: A renowned public health physician, Dr Ejike Oji, has warned youths against the dangers of hurry migration, locally known as Japa, leading many to inhuman and health-risky jobs overseas.

Oji, who is the Chairman Management Committee, Association for the Advancement of Family Planning (AAFP), gave the warning while delivering Amb. Ogbonnaya Nduaka Inaugural Lecture at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) on Saturday.

The lecture was delivered at Veterinary Medicine Alumni Homecoming and first Faculty Lecture Series titled: Amb. Ogbonnaya Nduaka Inaugural Lecture.

Oji noted that although it is not advisable to stop people going to places to seek greener pastures; however, youths must get equipped and upgrade themselves.

He noted that the upgrade would come in terms of getting qualified as a professional in a field of study or being a highly qualified tradesman or tradeswoman.

“So, one should get himself equipped as a global citizen through getting himself the global required skill set and pre-requisite professional qualification to be at par with the citizens of the country you are migrating to or better still be higher than them.

“Do not be in a hurry without adequate planning, or that somebody just bought you a flight ticket and a visa and your next plan is to seek a job without any form of professional or artisan/craftsman training and its pre-requisite qualification.

“In many countries, their system is highly regulated and coordinated so that you do not just come and get accepted easily and at times you spend many years to get their own qualifications to qualify and get accommodated in their system.

“So, for one not to suffer for many years under inhuman work conditions, livelihood and job that exposes one to various health risks.

“Our youths should work hard here and prepare to meet not only local but international standards,” he said.

The expert urged youths to look for a mentor to attach themselves to as well as learn and tap from their vast experience and avoid mistakes.

“Our youths should also unlearn some unprofitable ways that bring failure and shame but learn things that are profitable and dignifying.

“This is the only way we can replicate our successes and continue to have Nigerians that will uphold legacies of positivism and forthrightness within the society,” he said.

Oji, President of Dr Ejike Oji Community Development Foundation, described Amb. Ogbonnaya Nduaka, a foremost lecturer in the faculty, as an epitome of hard work, transparency, honesty and humility.

The guest lecturer said that Nduaka touched all facets of life, which included: academic, research, technocracy, diplomatic mission and societal/community leadership during his lifetime.

“Nduaka during his gracious lifetime made a tremendous impact in the lives of people around him and all persons that came in contact with him.

“This faculty cannot quantify his immense contributions as a lecturer and researcher as well as technocrat in shaping the veterinary profession within the country,” he said.

Oji said that his foundation was already putting five million Nigeria women in one database and using tech-soft-skills to empower them, which would change their lives for the better and impact millions of families in the country.

The Keynote Speaker, Emeritus Prof. Silva Anika, tasked various alumni at faulty and institution levels in UNN on the need to give back to the society through investment and helping to uplift academic standard.

Anika, who spoke on the topic: “The Alumni: A Veritable Partner for Development of Veterinary Medical Education in Nigeria”, noted that alumni must draw closer to the university to see various gaps that they would close to keep their alma mater as the best.

In a welcome address, Prof. Chinedu Eze, the Dean of the Faculty, expressed appreciation to staff and alumni of the faculty for the success of the homecoming and first inaugural lecture, adding that the faculty would continue to collaborate with UNN management.

The event also featured the swearing in of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association Executives, a dinner and cutting of the homecoming cake.

It also featured award presentations to distinguished personalities, which included: Chief Samuel Onyishi, the Chief Executive Officer of Peace Mass Transit, Dr Obiora Ukagba and Dr Ejike Oji among those who were given awards of excellence during the occasion. (Flowerbudnews)

CAC Boss Bags ICSAN Fellowship Award

    By Biola Lawal

Lagos (Flowerbudnews)  The Registrar-General/CEO of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Alhaji Garba Abubakar, has become a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN).

Alhaji Garba Abubakar was among six distinguished Nigerians conferred with Honorary Fellowship Awards by the institute at its 47th Annual Conference and Dinner, themed “Sound Governance as a Cursor to a Thriving Economy: A Case for Inclusiveness”.

This was disclosed in a statement by CAC News, a copy of which was made available to Flowerbudnews in Abuja.

Conferring the award on them, the ICSAN President/Chairman of Council, Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo, FCIS, described their performance in governance as superlative and worthy of emulation.

Funmi Ekundayo, who stressed that ICSAN places great emphasis on ethics and uprightness, congratulated the awardees on their professional accomplishments.

Ekundayo, who maintained that the feat represents the Zenith of professional membership, charged them not to view the achievement as the destination.

She said the award signifies the beginning of a new chapter in their career, providing them the opportunity to learn, relearn, and unlearn through capacity-building programmes, amongst others.

In his remarks, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, congratulated the awardees on the achievements recorded in their respective fields of endeavour to enable them to make the list of wardees.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Bimbola Salu -hundeyin used the forum to congratulate Funmi Ekundayo for becoming the first female president of ICSAN since its inception 47 years ago.

Among several speakers at the event was former Minister of Communications Omobola Johnson, who stressed the need for more inclusiveness for women in accordance with the conference theme.

In his remarks, Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo (representing Adamawa North Senatorial District) congratulated the awardees with special reference to the Registrar General, whom he described as a good friend.

Senator Abo stated the resolve of the National Assembly to support the programmes and policies of the present administration in the country in order to ensure a better and more prosperous Nigeria.

Responding on behalf of the honorary fellowship award recipients, Senator Margery Chuba Okadigbo thanked ICSAN for finding them worthy of the honours and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them.

For his part, Alhaji Garba Abubakar, shortly after his induction as a fellow of ICSAN, pledged to rededicate himself to greater service.

It would be recalled that Alhaji Garba Abubakar has accomplished the full digitization of all CAC services, thereby becoming the only government agency with a full-pledged self-service portal.

Newest on the array of successes recorded by him is the launch of the Beneficial Ownership Register (BOR), which made history for becoming the first in Africa and is in line with global data standards.

CAC News reports that also on the list of the six distinguished recipients of ICSAN honorary fellowships are Ambassador Shuaibu Adamu Ahmed, Executive Secretary/CEO Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria, and Professor Abubakar O. Sulaiman, Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).

Others are Engineer Etido Inyang and Mrs. Ekerebong Umoh. (Flowerbudnews)

  • Sen. Elisha Abbo and his Dangerous Politics

Sen. Elisha Abbo and his Dangerous Politics

    By Gbadebo Adeagbo

Abuja:   (Flowerbudnews):    It was Elisha Abbo, the caterwauling Senator from Adamawa North who echoed, following his intense grilling and probing by the Senate Disciplinary Committee led by the former Senator of Lagos Central, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu (now The First Lady) that, “To err is human; to forgive is divine”.

Abbo had just been slammed with a fine of 50 million naira for his brazen and inhumane treatment of a nursing woman she met at a sex toy store in Abuja. One may be tempted to look at his youthful exuberance, but a closer look would suggest that it is rather one of his unedifying idiosyncrasies to be rebellious, recalcitrant, and desperate.

Abbo may have committed a mistake with the sex toy store saga, which could be overlooked as a first-time non-criminal offender. After all, no one is infallible. But he proved Nigerians wrong when various people started coming out of the woodwork to reveal more of his sex toy store escapades and how he mal-treated, ridiculed, and bullied them, especially women.

One journalist from Ekiti State recounted how Abbo not only rendered him helpless but also supervised how his equipment and tools were destroyed at Mubi by his miscreants who would later not pay him for all his services. I am sure several people have their ordeal with Abbo but may be scared to voice out for fear of victimization and harassment.

Abbo’s politics undergirds lack of decency and decorum, anchored on his desperation to surreptitiously hijack what is never meant for him. This trait became very clear when he led some recalcitrant Senators in the just concluded National Assembly election to upset the consensus of Godswill Akpabio’s candidacy as the Senate President. He made himself the poster boy for Abdulaziz Yari and some selfish Northern Oligarchs even when many people had already agreed that someone from the Southern extraction should of necessity, fairness, and equity become the Senate President of the 10th Senate.

Abbo’s admittance of wrongdoing during his sex toy escapade has not genuinely translated into a guiding principle or template that should stir one’s subconsciousness to accept defeat and seek negotiation and realignment. Though defeated, the last National Assembly election of the Principal Officers was a reflection of how political gladiators should handle electioneering failure in the interest of the country. You do not have to do ”Gbajue”, a new lexicon of the renowned Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka that was introduced last week to describe the Obidients who allegedly claimed to have won the 2023 presidential election, but without the evidence to prove it when they had the opportunity in court.

Having failed to sail Yari through the storm of the tense contest, what is now new in Abbo’s chess game and calculation is to lead Senator Godswill Akpabio’s laughable impeachment even when the Senate President has not deviated one bit from the ambit of the laws that guide the Red Chamber and its Standing Orders. While this remains a colossal affront to the sensibility of many Nigerians, one should caution Abbo that the Senate under the leadership of Akpabio is NOT a rubber stamp to the executive arm of government the same way he genuflected before Abdulaziz Yari and his co-travelers before, during and after the contest for the senate headship.

Pray, how could a rubber stamp senate of Godswill Akpabio have declined a request of President Tinubu and head ECOWAS Heads of State for a military option to settle the impasse in the Niger Republic? Rather, Akpabio’s senate advised the president to look in the direction of politics and diplomacy for a solution to the imbroglio with a resolution.

But Abbo, like the Ostrich that hides its head in the sand, never saw this happen on the Senate floor or perhaps because he was away to the sex toy store again on that day. One wonders why Abbo was fixated on the appointments made by the President who has the prerogative, if not the constitutional mandate to appoint anyone he considers best fit for a particular job. What Abbo and his co-travelers termed the ‘Yorubanization’ of the financial and economic system of the country is nothing but an attempt to call a dog a bad name in order to hang it as not a few analysts and economic experts have described the president’s appointments as a shot in the arm that would reactivate and rejuvenate the seriously ailing economy of the country.

Even President Bola Tinubu himself has reiterated severally that his government would be anchored on “national competence”. Otherwise, the nation would be risking grievous consequences by putting men and women of low substance to superintend the financial sector of the country.

A closer look at the appointments made so far reveals that not just the Yorubas, but other regions are getting the best deals from the president, starting from the security which is headed by a Northern General to the Petroleum (the mainstay of the economy) headed by ministers from the Northeast/South-South extraction.

This is not even the time to retrospect into the immediate past government of Muhamadu Buhari where every key sector of the economy was unapologetically and unfeelingly restricted to the North by him. It is a time to advocate for and elevate national political appointments that will entrench national competency above ethnic and religious considerations.

What Abbo and his goons in the Senate seem to be hatching is nothing but a dangerous political game that could snowball into an unmanageable political situation for the polity. They are therefore bound to fail. One wonders why Abbo and his musketeers are trying to scapegoat the Senate president for appointments made by President Tinubu. When did Akpabio transition into the position of Special Adviser to the President on Appointment Affairs?

While Abbo and his small coterie of renegades in the senate may be fighting their last battle, it remains to be seen how they would handle the repercussions and reprisals when they finally manifest. And they will in due time. (Flowerbudnews)

positions at the Bank on September 15, 2023, subject to their confirmation by the Senate, AbdulMumin noted (Flowerbudnews)

  • Remove HND/BSc Dichotomy or Scrap HND Programmes – Bugaje tells FG

Remove HND/BSc Dichotomy or Scrap HND Programmes – Bugaje tells FG

    By Funmilayo Adeyemi

Prof. Idris Bugaje, the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has urged the Federal Government to scrap the Higher National Diploma (HND) in the Polytechnics if the government would not remove the dichotomy between HND and BSc.
Bugaje disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on issues around its HND top-up programmes.
He noted that the discrimination against HND holders was uncalled for as it usually prevents the holders from attaining the highest directorate level in the public service.
According to him, the HND-BSc dichotomy is a colonial syndrome and it is unfortunate that Nigeria is yet to get out of this syndrome.
He added that the Board had written to convince the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education to allow HND holders to go straight for two year Masters programme.
He said that the letter had however not seen the light of the day.
“Basically, what brought the top-up programme was the discrimination that we have endured over the past decades against HND holders, who for no fault of theirs ,shown nationalism by even coming to the Polytechnics to learn skills.
“HND is equivalent all over the world to a first degree, yet Nigerians are discriminating against HND holders, they are not allowed to reach the highest directorate level in the public service.
“Their progression is being attenuated over the years. When they want to convert, they are asked to step down to a lower level for no cause of theirs simply because they have not presented a BSc.
“So we felt, which is the way out and currently there has to be PGD, but PGD is not the best for HND holders because anytime they want to take employment in a University even after their Doctorate, they will still ask them to present their first degree,” he said.
The executive secretary explained that the Board copied foreign models to assist HND holders in attaining managerial positions.
He said that the first degree should not be used as the only yardstick for progression in academia adding that encouraging skills was a way to go if a country must grow and develop.
“So NBTE therefore looked at the best global practices, we have discovered what is happening in Ghana, South Africa, the European Union and Asia.
“What we discovered is the best option for Nigerian HND by taking the holders through a one-year top-up which will allow them to acquire BSc.
“By doing this, in theory, they have BSc and in practice they have HND and whenever you give them any assignment, they will perform more than anybody else.
“So that is the purpose to allow them to progress because all efforts to bring sanity to the system had failed. And I am of the opinion that if the federal government doesn’t want to remove this dichotomy, let the Federal Government scrap the HND as done in Ghana,” he added.
Bugaje suggested adopting the South African model in such a way that after the HND programme, the holder seeking academic career, can proceed to a one-year Bachelors top-up rather than the PGD before the Master’s degree.

  • International Peace Day: NSCDC committed in pursuing peace in communities in Enugu – Commandant

International Peace Day: NSCDC committed in pursuing peace in communities in Enugu – Commandant

The Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Enugu State, Mr Muhammed Dada, says the Corps is committed to pursuing peace in communities in the state through its specialised departments.

Dada said this on Thursday in Enugu during a press conference on the 2023 International Day of Peace celebration.

He revealed that the Corps departments of Crisis Management under which resides the Peace and Conflict Resolution Units enables peaceful resolution to problems and provides a viable option to unnecessary litigation within communities.

According to him, the Agro Rangers Unit also functions to help mediate between farmer and herders conflicts in all communities within Enugu State and the country in general.

The commandant noted that the NSCDC, being a grassroots paramilitary Agency, could operate in both peace-time and war-time and with a mandate to protect lives and property.

Dada said that the Corps was strategically positioned as a change agent to assist Nigeria, which is a member nation in the United Nations (UN) and the International Civil Defence Organization, to aggressively pursue the realisation of a peaceful world.

“This year the NSCDC Enugu State Command throws its weight in line the chairmanship of its Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Audi, who has demonstrated total commitment and dynamism in fostering a safer clime in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

“The NSCDC has also fully collaborated with the military and sister agencies on state-level, national-level and at the sub-regional-level too.

“These levels of collaborations have resulted in intelligence sharing and manpower support which has continued to yield dividends in the fight against criminality, banditry and insurgency both within and outside the country,” he said.

The commandant noted that it was clear that a fight against insurgency, extremism and terrorism is a fight against poverty and societal underdevelopment in all its facets.

“Besides, these hydra-headed monsters cause the education of our youths to be hampered resulting in low literacy levels and the consequent fallouts of this malady where the same youths become agents of destruction owing to brainwashing,” he said.

Dada lauded the NSCDC Commandant General for the vibrant pursuit of the Safe School Initiative having inaugurated a 21-Man Technical Advisory Committee to provide expert support at the National Safe School Response Centre (NSSRC).

He assured that the initiative is in full swing under the leadership of the NSCDC with support from sister agencies resulting in proactive and interventionist support to schools in areas prone to insurgency.

The International Day of Peace is observed around the world annually on Sept. 21 and it is a Day set aside by the UN General Assembly to strengthen the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. (Flowerbudnews)

  • Seyi Tinubu debunks sending 15m to Mohbad’s son

Seyi Tinubu debunks sending 15m to Mohbad’s son

Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has debunked the claims making rounds on the internet that he donated a sum of 15 million naira to the son of the late Nigerian rapper, Mohbad.

Since the death of the ‘peace’ hitmaker was announced on September 12, Nigerians have continued to seek justice over his death and have equally raised millions of naira for the rapper’s 5-month-old son, Liam.

In a new development regarding the donations on Thursday, there were reports that Seyi Tinubu had joined the long list of Nigerians donating to the late rapper’s son’s account.

The report, posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Dada Olusegun, an aide to President Tinubu, claimed that the President’s son had supported the late rapper’s son with 15 million naira. He also posted an alleged receipt of the transaction.

However, while refuting the claim on X a few hours later, Japheth Omojuwa, a popular political commentator and an ally of Seyi, stated that no such donation was made.

According to him, Seyi Tinubu, like every other Nigerian, expressed deep concern over the untimely death of Mohbad but did not make the alleged 15 million naira donation.

He added that although Seyi is committed to supporting the late rapper’s wife and son, he did not make the purported donation.

He wrote in part: “Seyi Tinubu didn’t donate N15m to Mohbad’s kid or family. I would know because I have been discussing the issue with him for several days.

I said not to get sucked into the social media thing because whatever he said or did would be politicized. I then went on to say, irrespective of that, we should prioritize his family, especially his kid. He said he’d commit to the kid’s education and also support the wife immediately. But we also knew there was still a danger of that getting used against him politically – that’s the world we now live in. It is what it is, it’s why one can only move the best way one can.”

Affirming the authenticity of Omojuwa’s statement, Seyi Tinubu took to his verified Instagram account to repost the full statement on his Instagram stories.
