FRSC strengthens capacity, character and professional competence of frontline marshals
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has moved to strengthen the capacity, character and professional competence of its frontline personnel in order to deliver effective road safety services to Nigerians.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said this on Tuesday in Enugu at the opening ceremony of a two-day Corps-Wide Professional Repositioning Training for the Marshal Cadre.
The theme of the training, which involved 250 marshals from four state commands under RS 9 Zonal Command, Enugu, is: “Repositioning Marshals for Effective Service Delivery.”
Represented by Assistant Corps Marshal, Andokie Aremu, in-charge of Manpower Development in Training Department, the corps marshal said that the training being implemented in 12 zones remained strategic investment in the Corps’ most valuable asset – personnel.
According to him, every success we record on our highways depends largely on the knowledge, attitude, competence and professionalism of our marshals, who remain first and most visible point of contact between the corps and motoring public.
He noted that reposition marshals for effective service delivery, means strengthening the very foundation upon which corps operational effectiveness and public confidence rest.
He said, “Our 2026 Corporate Strategic Goals place strong emphasis on operational excellence, professionalism, institutional integrity, improved service delivery, digital transformation and sustained reduction in road traffic crashes,
“These objectives cannot be achieved without a workforce that is properly trained, ethically grounded, motivated and responsive to the changing demands of road safety management.
“This training has therefore been structured to strengthen your understanding of the FRSC Establishment Act, operational procedures, traffic management, emergency response, emotional intelligence, ethical conduct and public engagement.”
Speaking, the Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM), Abiodun Akinlade, DCM in-charge of Training, represented by Corps Commander, Goddy Aworawo, urged the participants to make judicious use of the training to improve their competences on the job.
Akinlade said that the marshals must be true and good ambassadors of the corps, adding: “You carry image, credibility and dignity of the corps as
frontline personnel”.
Corroborating, Coordinator of the training, Deputy Corps Marshal, Victor Nwokolo (retired), said that as front line ambassadors, every interaction with a motorist either strengthens or diminishes public confidence in FRSC as an institution.
Nwokolo, who gave the lead paper titled: “The FRSC Ambassador: Living Our Core Values, Customs and Ethics”, said that repositioning marshals for competence and effective service delivery begin with reorientation of mindset and attitude to duty.
The Acting FRSC Sector Commander in Enugu State, Deputy Corps Commander Kyrian Okolo, appreciated the corps marshal for institutionalising capacity building in all cadres and hosting the marshal cadre in Enugu.
Okolo urged the participants to learning from the experiences of the facilitators and lecturers through attentive listening and writing down important points and actions meant to help enhance their competences.
Highpoint of the event, which involved FRSC marshals from Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, featured a minute silence for the recently demised FRSC Sector Commander in Enugu State, late Corps Commander Franklin Agbakoba.
