The Lead Pastor of Hilltop City Christian Centre International, Pastor Victor Akintunde, has appealed to Nigerians to embrace probity, transparency, accountability, patriotism and altruism.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos, Akintunde said that commitment of the citizens to the ideals was essential to nation-building

He also urged global peace, appealing to warring nations to lay down arms in the interest of humanity.

“I encourage everyone to embrace the principles of probity, transparency, accountability, patriotism and altruism in our different spaces and little corners.

“The cumulative effect of good behaviours on the part of the majority will give us a better society.

“On the international scene, we pray for peace and urge parties at war to sheathe their swords and embrace peace for the sake of their peoples, nations of the world and posterity.

He urged public office holders to shun corruption and prioritise the well-being of the masses.

“We all have a responsibility to uphold integrity in our spheres of influence,” he said.

Akintunde commended Nigerians for resilience in the face of challenges.

According to him, divine intervention and the collective will of the people will continue to ensure national stability and progress.

“While we still grapple with insecurity and economic pressures, there are signs of progress arising from ongoing reforms.

“We must continue to pray for our leaders and play our part in driving the nation forward,” he said.

The cleric said that the church’s 2025 Spirit and Life Conference focused on spiritual growth to equip participants with the spiritual strength to live righteously.

He said the three-day conference with the theme, “Election of Grace”, began on Wednesday at the church’s headquarters at Ojodu, Lagos.

“We are taking participants back to foundational truths as taught by the apostles.

“The conference will feature prominent ministers of the gospel, including Pastor Kolade Fagade of Kingscrest Christian Centre, Lagos, and Pastor Taiwo Kolawole of Christ Intervention Christian Centre, Ogun, among others.

The competition, which targeted young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 29, engaged six finalist teams over a four-week intensive innovation process, culminating in a demo day on Wednesday in Lagos.

The hackathon focused on real-world challenges in the sector, such as inclusive insurance, fraud detection, risk management, and improving customer experience.

After an engaging pitch session before a panel of judges, Team Insurvate emerged as the overall winner with its solution, “Claim Central”, an end-to-end digital platform designed to streamline the insurance claims process from policyholders to insurers.

Team Aegis secured second place, while Team Phoenix came in third.

Speaking on behalf of the winning team, Mr Odunayo Ojeremi, leader of Team Insurvate, described the competition as highly competitive and rewarding.

“We are excited and grateful for the opportunity.

“We didn’t expect to win, but we are glad our solution was recognised. We hope to improve ‘Claim Central’ and make it a platform that ensures seamless claims processing,” he said.

  • Sights of Hope: Sen. Wamakko’s Legacy

Sights of Hope: Sen. Wamakko’s Legacy

    By Bashir Rabe Mani

Good eyesight is essential for daily activities, mobility, and overall quality of life. Globally, 2.2 billion people suffer from vision impairment or blindness, with many cases being preventable. In Nigeria, an estimated 24 million people live with vision loss, and 1.3 million are blind. Common eye diseases include cataracts, glaucoma, refractive errors, and diabetic retinopathy.

Sen. Wamakko’s free eye care programme is a commendable initiative that aims to address these challenges and improve eye health for Nigerians.

As a former Governor of Sokoto State, he has sustained this noble gesture for decades, restoring thousands of eye sights of indigent citizens across Sokoto State, Nigeria, and beyond. Indeed, he is a Senator-without-borders.

The Aliyu Magatakarda Foundation, initiated by Senator Wamakko, launched the 2025 edition of its free community eye care program in collaboration with Vision Savers Eye Care Centre. The programme targets 5,000 beneficiaries across the state, continuing a humanitarian initiative that has provided medical treatment to thousands since 2017.

Representing Sen. Wamakko, Permanent Secretary Almustapha Abubakar Alkali flagged off the 2025 free eye care exercise. Dr Kamal S. Umar, Chairman of Vision Savers Eye Care Centre, called on beneficiaries to appreciate the Senator’s contribution to saving lives, noting that good vision is a divine blessing.

The Specialist Hospital Sokoto will serve as the central venue for surgeries and follow-up care. Beneficiaries prayed and appreciated the Senator’s gesture.

As Bashar Abubakar MC, S.A. Media, aptly puts it, “This is an invaluable gesture that the lawmaker has sustained for ages… restoring hopes for the hitherto hapless and hopeless indigents.”

Sen. Wamakko’s legacy is a testament to his commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly the less privileged. His initiative has brought hope and restored sight to thousands, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

  • RE: Misleading and Sensational Report on NAHCON’s 2025 Hajj Spouse Sponsorship

RE: Misleading and Sensational Report on NAHCON’s 2025 Hajj Spouse Sponsorship

It is disheartening to see yet another round of sensational and poorly researched reporting targeting the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), this time with wild claims about so-called “billions of naira” spent on spouses of staff for the 2025 Hajj.

As someone who has closely followed NAHCON’s operations for years, I can confidently state that the report titled “Fresh Scandal Rocks NAHCON…” published by Newspoint Nigeria is riddled with inaccuracies and distortions:
    1. Spouse Policy is Not a Secret
NAHCON’s spouse sponsorship policy is a long-standing, well-known practice — approved internally — allowing staff deployed on official Hajj duties to sponsor spouses based on approved number of slots to each grade level, at a cost determined by management . The number of slots also depends on that which is approved by management. It is not a case of “billions spent by government.” If anything, it is billions spent by NAHCON staff.
    2. Staff Pay for Spouse Packages
Staff personally pay for their spouses — like a rebate which airlines give to their staff. The fee covering airfare, visa, Madinah accommodation, Masha’ir stay, and Mashair transportation. No “public billions” are being spent on this — it is wrong to mislead the public otherwise.
    3. Inflated Figures
The report’s reference to ₦1.64 billion is clearly a sensational fabrication designed to attract clicks. The real number of spouse slots is much lower, and all payments are made through bank drafts or deducted from staff estacode which is properly receipted.
    4. Transparency
NAHCON’s current leadership under Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman has consistently shown a commitment to transparency and accountability. The public should not fall for half-baked narratives aimed at discrediting the Commission’s achievements during this successful 2025 Hajj operation.
    5. Public Focus Should Remain on Pilgrim Welfare. Rather than stirring distractions, we should all focus on supporting NAHCON and appreciating the improvements seen this year in pilgrim accommodation, feeding, transportation and overall welfare — which are verifiable facts.
    6. And if the amount quoted as estacode allowance is what staff are actually paid after spending 40-60 days working outside the country, I am not surprised why they protested for being paid only 18 days and 21 days and not their full 40 to 60 days after putting their best. NAHCON should look into paying its staff their full dues all the time.

In conclusion, as a concerned Hajj stakeholder, I urge media platforms to practice responsible journalism and verify facts before rushing to publication. NAHCON has nothing to hide — and will continue to serve the interests of Nigerian pilgrims with integrity.

    Signed:
    Concerned Hajj Stakeholder
