The Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Engr. Olalekan Badmus, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his in-law and prominent Osogbo politician, Alhaji Fatai Oyedele Diekola. Diekola, popularly known as “Jagun Aso,” died at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy of grassroots impact and political mentorship that spanned decades in Osun State.

In a poignant tribute signed by Badmus, the NPA chief described the late politician as a “thoroughbred” leader who lived a life defined by purpose and an unwavering commitment to his community. He noted that Diekola’s transition is a significant loss not just to his immediate family, but to the entire Osogbo kingdom and the political landscape of Osun State.

Badmus highlighted Diekola’s distinguished tenure as the Chairman of Osogbo Local Government, where he earned a reputation for selfless service. He further lauded the deceased’s stint as the Chairman of the Osun State Board for Vocational and Technical Education, noting that his leadership was consistently people-oriented and focused on the collective progress of the state.

Central to Jagun Aso’s legacy, according to Badmus, was his firm belief in human capital development. The tribute emphasized how Diekola prioritized the empowerment of others, particularly through the mentorship of the younger generation. He was described as a leader who used his platform to facilitate lofty ideas aimed at driving the socio-economic growth of his people.

“He understood that true development is about investing in people,” Badmus stated, praising the late politician’s rare blend of passion, humility, and integrity. He remarked that Diekola’s contributions to the growth of Osogbo would remain indelible, as his influence continues to resonate through the many lives he touched and the political paths he helped shape.

Extending his heartfelt condolences, the NPA Director reached out to the immediate family of the deceased, his close associates, and the residents of Osogbo. He urged them to take solace in the impactful life lived by the late Jagun Aso, whose service and sacrifices for his community remained consistent until his passing.

Badmus concluded with a prayer for the soul of the departed, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. “Rest on, Jagun Aso. Your service, sacrifices, and love for Osogbo will always be remembered,” the statement read.
