2027: OYO APC Women Leader Urges Members On Unity To Secure Victory
By Adewale Owoade
The All Progressives Congress Women Leader in Oyo State, Dr Adekemi Opatunde, has urged party members to embrace unity to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu and other candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Opatunde made the call during a visit to the Secretariat of the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu 2027 (GMT) in Ibadan.
She said the GMT was contributing to the party’s reconciliation and mobilisation efforts aimed at strengthening structures at the grassroots and wards.
Opatunde added that the choice of a broom as the symbol of the APC by party’s founding elders underscored the importance of unity among members.
“I believe in the power of unity. When our elders chose the broom as the symbol of our party, they understood that a bunch of broomsticks, when kept together, could perform perfectly.
“That is what the broom is meant to do, and this is what God is using GMT to do by reconciling our members and returning to the grassroots and wards to appeal to people not to be angry.
“As the Secretary of the Reconciliation Committee that is what we are also doing. We will work within ourselves to ensure that everybody is happy.
“I also appeal to all our leaders who have one legitimate grievance or another to let go of their differences.
“I believe that politics is serving God through mankind. Politics is not basically to make money, named, or gain fame,” she said.
The Director-General of GMT, Alhaja Aminat Oparemi, said the movement’s primary objective was to deliver Oyo State to President Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections through grassroots mobilisation.
“We have worked from ward to ward and local government to local government. We have 33 local government coordinators and directors.
“Our aim is to secure a second term for President Tinubu, support our governor and other APC candidates in the state,” Oparemi said.
She said the movement had resolved to avoid anti-party activities and support candidates presented by the APC for the 2027 elections.
“In preparation for the general election, we have agreed that we do not want anti-party activities. We have no candidate except candidates from our great party.
“We have to support the candidates the party presents to us,” she said.
Director of Information of GMT, Engr. Aderoju Oluyemi said the movement has a strong presence at the grassroots and was prepared to work for the victory of Tinubu and other APC candidates.
“Our promise to President Tinubu is that GMT will deliver two million votes and win Oyo State for him and all our candidates, from the House of Assembly to the Senate, House of Representatives and governorship,” he said.
The Director-General of the movement, Dr Olukunle Abiola, also urged party members to remain united and work collectively for the success of the APC in 2027.
“My advice to all members of the party is that we should unite and forget the past. If we are united, it will be very easy for us to win the election. There is no gain in disunity
“I urge all aggrieved members to bury the hatchet, forget the past, and face the future so that we can win the next elections,” he said. (NAN)
