    – The UK batches being recalled are not registered in Nigeria

    By Biola Lawal
Abuja (Flowerbudnews): The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has declared the NESTLE infant food formula on sale in Nigeria safe for consumption.

NAFDAC Director General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye who gave the assurance in a press statement, said that the clarification became necessary due to recent public concerns over the voluntary global recall in over 50 countries by Nestlé UK of specific batches of its SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula.

The infant food were recalled due to the potential presence of cereulide, a toxin, in the batches concerned.

Prof. Adeyeye reassured ”the public, healthcare professionals, relevant stakeholders particularly parents, guardians and caregivers, that all Nestlé Infant Formulae currently approved for marketing in Nigeria are safe for consumption and are not part of the recall.”

”The recall in the affected countries is due to the potential presence of cereulide in the UK batches, a toxin, which can trigger nausea and vomiting when consumed,” She disclosed, adding:
    .
Cereulide is an extremely heat-resistant toxin produced by certain strains of the bacterium Bacillus cereus.

    NAFDAC confirms that:
The SMA range sold in Nigeria is manufactured at Nestlé Tuas Factory, Singapore, and is duly registered with NAFDAC as follows:SMA GOLD 1 – NAFDAC Reg. No.: B1-2783SMA GOLD 2 – NAFDAC Reg. No.: B1-2780SMA GOLD 3 – NAFDAC Reg. No.: B1-2781NAFDAC has verified and reiterates that the SMA and NAN range of infant formulae produced for the Nigerian market are not part of the affected batches involved in the voluntary and precautionary recall in other countries.

”This alert has been issued as a precautionary measure in the interest of public health, consistent with NAFDAC’s statutory responsibility to keep Nigerians duly informed of emerging global food safety concerns, even in circumstances where the likelihood of local exposure remains minimal,” Prof. Adeyeye stated.

NAFDAC ”continues to exercise utmost vigilance, recognizing that the risks associated with unauthorized importation, online transactions, or personal carriage of such products during international travel cannot be entirely excluded,” She stressed.

”The Agency continues to exercise strict regulatory oversight, including product registration, routine surveillance, and post-market monitoring, to ensure that all food products—especially infant nutrition products—meet approved safety, quality, and labeling standards,” Prof. Adeyeye stated.

She assured that ”NAFDAC remains fully committed to safeguarding the health of Nigerians, particularly infants and vulnerable populations. The Agency will not hesitate to take prompt regulatory action should any product be found to pose a risk to public health.’:

The NAFDAC Boss encouraged members of the public to ”remain vigilant and rely only on verified information from NAFDAC and other competent authorities. ”

”Please discard the recalled products if found, and report any suspicion of their sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or call 0800-162-3322. Adverse events or side effects related to the consumption of the related products should be reported via NAFDAC’s E-reporting platforms available on www.nafdac.gov.ng,” Prof. Adeyeye urged.

Chimamanda serves legal notice over son’s death

    Chimamanda Adichie

    –  Accuses hospital of negligence, demands record

Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie has demanded accountability from a private hospital in Lagos, accusing it of medical negligence and professional impropriety following the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi, after a series of medical procedures.

In a detailed legal notice dated January 10, 2026, solicitors acting for Adichie and her partner, Dr. Ivara Esege, alleged that the hospital, its anaesthesiologist, and other attending medical personnel breached the duty of care owed to their son, Master Nkanu Adichie-Esege, who died in the early hours of January 7, 2026.

According to the notice, the child, born on March 25, 2024, was referred to the hospital on January 6, 2026, from Atlantis Pediatric Hospital for diagnostic and preparatory procedures ahead of an imminent medical evacuation to the United States, where a specialist medical team was reportedly on standby.

The procedures included an echocardiogram, a brain MRI, insertion of a peripherally inserted central catheter, and a lumbar puncture. Intravenous sedation was said to have been administered using propofol.

However, the notice alleged that during transportation to the cardiac catheterisation laboratory after the MRI, the child developed sudden and severe complications.

Despite being under sedation, he was reportedly transferred between clinical areas under conditions that raised “serious and substantive concerns” about compliance with patient-safety protocols. He was later pronounced dead in the early hours of January 7.

The legal notice, issued “without prejudice” to the parents’ rights and signed by the law firm led by Prof. Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, outlines multiple alleged lapses in paediatric anaesthetic and procedural care.

These include concerns about the appropriateness and cumulative dosing of propofol in a critically ill child, inadequate airway protection during deep sedation, and failure to ensure continuous physiological monitoring.

The parents further alleged that their son was transferred without supplemental oxygen, without adequate monitoring, and without sufficient accompanying medical personnel.

They also raised concerns about the availability of basic resuscitation equipment, delayed recognition and management of respiratory or cardiovascular compromise, and an overall failure to comply with established paediatric anaesthesia, patient-transfer, and safety protocols.

Another key grievance cited was the alleged failure of the hospital to adequately disclose the risks and potential side effects of propofol and other anaesthetic agents, thereby undermining the legal requirement for informed consent.

According to the solicitors, these alleged lapses amount to prima facie breaches of the duty of care and render the hospital and the medical personnel involved liable for medical negligence resulting in the child’s death.

As part of their next legal steps, the parents have demanded certified copies of all medical records relating to their son’s treatment within seven days of receipt of the notice.

The requested documents include admission notes, consent forms, pre-anaesthetic assessments, anaesthetic charts, drug administration records, monitoring logs, procedural notes, nursing observations, ICU records, incident reports, and the identities of all medical staff involved.

The demand also covers internal reviews, safety logs from the MRI suite, and any other documentation connected to the child’s care.

The hospital has further been placed on formal notice to preserve all relevant evidence, whether physical or electronic.

This includes CCTV footage from procedure rooms and corridors, electronic monitoring data, pharmacy and drug inventory records, crash-cart and emergency equipment logs, internal communications, and any morbidity and mortality reviews.

The solicitors warned that any destruction, alteration, or loss of evidence after receipt of the notice would be treated as suppression of evidence and obstruction of justice, with attendant legal consequences.

The letter warned that failure to comply with the demands within the stipulated timeframe would leave the parents with no option but to pursue all available legal, regulatory, and judicial remedies against the hospital and all medical personnel involved.

  • Good Lesson in Leadership from United States of America (USA)

Good Lesson in Leadership from United States of America (USA)

When the Democrat president needed help with global famine, he turned to his Republican predecessor—and their unlikely friendship would last until death, proving that enemies can become the closest allies.

April 12, 1945. Franklin D. Roosevelt died, and Vice President Harry S. Truman suddenly became President of the United States.

At that moment, only one former president was still alive: Herbert Hoover. The relationship between these two men should have been impossible.

Hoover was a Republican. Truman was a Democrat. Hoover had presided over the Great Depression’s darkest years and left office deeply unpopular. For over a decade, he’d been politically isolated, blamed for economic catastrophe, largely ignored by the Roosevelt administration.

Truman could have continued that pattern. He could have kept Hoover at arm’s length, treated him as a relic of a failed past.

Instead, within a month of becoming president, Truman did something unexpected: he invited Hoover to the White House and asked for his help.
The world was facing catastrophic famine after World War II. Millions were starving across Europe and Asia. The devastation of war had destroyed agricultural systems, disrupted food distribution, and created humanitarian crisis on a scale almost impossible to comprehend.

Truman recognized something others had forgotten: Herbert Hoover was one of the world’s greatest experts on humanitarian relief.
Before becoming president, Hoover had led World War I relief efforts that saved millions of lives. He’d established the Commission for Relief in Belgium, feeding an entire occupied nation. He’d headed the U.S. Food Administration, overseeing American wartime food policy and rationing. He’d founded the American Relief Administration, supporting Europe immediately after the armistice.

Hoover had built his reputation not on politics, but on saving people from starvation.
In 1946, President Truman appointed Hoover honorary chair of the Famine Emergency Committee. Then he asked him to do something remarkable: travel the world, assess the food crisis firsthand, and compile a report on global hunger.

Hoover was 71 years old. He could have declined. He could have enjoyed a quiet retirement, avoided the physical demands of international travel and the emotional weight of witnessing mass suffering.

    Instead, he said yes.
Hoover traveled across war-ravaged continents on behalf of President Truman. He visited countries suffering from widespread hunger. He met with leaders, assessed food distribution systems, documented the scale of need. He compiled detailed reports that would guide American humanitarian policy.

And through this work, something unexpected happened: a genuine friendship formed between the Democrat president and the Republican former president.

Truman gave Hoover something precious: purpose. After years of political exile, after being blamed and dismissed, Hoover was back doing what he did best—public service on a global scale.

Hoover gave Truman something equally valuable: expertise, wisdom, and the credibility of bipartisan cooperation during a critical moment.
The friendship continued for the rest of their lives—not as political theater, but as genuine respect and affection between two men who’d learned to see past party labels.

In 1962, when Hoover was 87 years old, he wrote a letter to Truman that revealed the depth of their bond:

“Yours has been a friendship which has reached deeper into my life than you know… When you came to the White House within a month you opened the door to me to the only profession I knew, public service… For all this and your friendship, I am deeply grateful.”

Read those words again. This wasn’t polite correspondence. This was a man expressing profound gratitude for being given a second chance, for being valued when he’d been written off, for friendship that transcended politics.
Two years later, in 1964, Herbert Hoover died at age ninety.

Truman was unable to attend the funeral due to injury—a deep regret for a man who’d lost a true friend. But he sent a telegram to Hoover’s sons, Herbert Jr. and Allan:

“I was deeply saddened at the passing of your father. He was my good friend and I was his. President Hoover was a devoted public servant and he will be forever remembered for his great humanitarian work.”

“He was my good friend and I was his.”
    Simple words. Profound truth.
Think about what this story means.

Two men from opposing parties. One who’d been president during economic collapse, one who’d inherited global war. Every reason to maintain distance, to treat each other as political opponents, to let partisan loyalty define their relationship.

Instead, they chose service over politics. They chose competence over party affiliation. They chose friendship over the easier path of maintaining tribal boundaries.

Truman could have appointed a Democrat to lead famine relief. He chose the best person for the job, regardless of party.

Hoover could have declined, nursing grudges about how his presidency had been judged. He chose to serve when his country needed him.
And both men gained something irreplaceable: a friendship that lasted until death, built on mutual respect and shared commitment to something larger than themselves.

Their story isn’t about ignoring differences or pretending politics don’t matter. It’s about recognizing that when the stakes are high enough—when millions are starving, when the world needs solutions—competence and character matter more than partisan labels.

It’s about understanding that yesterday’s opponent might be today’s most valuable ally. That redemption is possible. That second chances, offered and accepted with grace, can transform both giver and receiver.

Today, when political polarization feels insurmountable, when cooperation across party lines seems impossible, the friendship between Harry Truman and Herbert Hoover stands as quiet rebuke to our cynicism.

They proved it’s possible. Not easy. Not without risk or criticism. But possible.
A Democrat president and a Republican former president, working together to feed a starving world, building a friendship that would outlast their service and endure until death.

That’s not naïve idealism. That’s what leadership looks like when it’s focused on solving problems rather than scoring points.

Within a month of becoming president, Truman opened the door to public service for a man who’d been shut out for over a decade.

And Hoover walked through it—not to reclaim power, but to do what he’d always done best: serve people in desperate need.

Their friendship wasn’t built on agreement. It was built on mutual recognition of something more important: shared commitment to public service and the courage to reach across divides when it mattered most.

He was his good friend. And he was his.
That’s the legacy. Not policies or politics, but proof that even in the hardest times, respect and friendship across political divides aren’t just possible—they’re essential.

Chimamanda’s Son – Dr. Anthea Esege Nwandu Addresses Inconsistencies in Euracare Hospital’s Statement on Nephew’s Death. The growing controversy surrounding the death of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr. Ivara Esege’s 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi Esege, has taken a significant turn.

Dr. Anthea Esege Nwandu, the child’s aunt and a dual board-certified Internal Medicine physician with 30 years of global clinical experience in Nigeria and the United States, is debunking Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital’s statement released on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

The statement relates to the circumstances of the child’s passing, which occurred at Euracare’s facility.”In their press statement, Euracare claims that there are inaccuracies in the account of how my nephew passed. Which inaccuracies exactly?” she asked.

In a detailed rebuttal, Dr. Nwandu has identified alleged significant falsehoods in the hospital’s statement. Below, she contrasts the specific claims made by Euracare with what she describes as “the documented truth of the situation

.”Claims vs. Reality According to Dr Nwandu Euracare claims the child had received care at two paediatric centres. This is false. He was in one hospital before coming to Euracare for the procedures.Euracare claims they provided care “in line with established clinical protocols and internationally accepted medical standards.” International standards demand that a child on oxygen who is given sedation must have continuous oxygen therapy.

Did Euracare do this? No! They confirmed this verbally to me when I went to the hospital to question the doctors.International standards demand that the child should have had continuous monitoring of oxygen levels in his blood. Did Euracare do this? NoInternational standards demand continuous monitoring of pulse and respiration. Did Euracare do this?

NoInternational standards demand that when moving the child from one part of the hospital to another, the child must be accompanied by resuscitative equipment in case he stops breathing (stopping breathing is a risk of anesthesia), and this can easily be done by a simple apparatus called an ambubag.

Did Euracare do this? No.Since there was no monitoring, is it possible to accurately document when the child stopped breathing or for how long he was pulseless before he was resuscitated? No. Is it international standard for an anesthesiologist to carry a child post-sedation on his shoulder, unable to visually see the child, with absolutely no monitoring, while insisting that he alone would be in the elevator with the child?

No.To transfer the child to the ICU, the anesthesiologist disconnected his oxygen and again carried him on his shoulder. Is that standard practice? No.Dr. Nwandu asserts that the child was medically stable and booked for a scheduled evacuation flight to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore when the alleged negligence took place.

She is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Nwandu holds a Master of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.)

    Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo

Realnews reports that the late Barrister Chigbo’s family announced the death of Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo, an Abuja-based lawyer, at the hands of still-to-be-identified kidnappers in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory on Monday,  January 5, 2026.

Nwamaka was the elder sister of Dr. Maureen Chigbo, Editor/Publisher of Nigeria’s pioneer online  Realnews Magazine, Barrister Mrs. Anthonia Ejenike of the Ministry of Justice, and Nwakaego Chigbo. Her brothers are Celestine Chigbo of Jogene Enterprises and Gerald Chigbo of Sparklinks Nigeria Ltd.

According to a statement by the Chigbo’s family, Nwamaka, before her abduction, was on the phone with Anthonia, another sister, who briefly interrupted the call to attend to a client.

“When Anthonia reverted, Nwamaka’s phone was still live, with her distress cry heard in the background before the phone suddenly went dead and unreachable,” the statement added.

“Anthonia alerted her elder sister, Maureen Chigbo, and other family members, who called the lawyer’s number repeatedly to reach her or her abductors to no avail,” the statement continued, adding that: “When a call finally went through, a male voice rained curses in English and Hausa language, saying: “Thunder fire you there, send three million Naira or else we will kill her.”

According to the statement, the captors gave no further details and abruptly terminated subsequent calls.

The family contacted the police, who sprang into action, assuring that they were tracking the kidnappers, who were said to be “in motion and would likely drop the lawyer off once they might have collected the ransom,”  the statement further said.

“The kidnappers never initiated any calls, and when Nwamaka’s family members reached them through her phone for clarification on how the ransom would be paid, they only heard the lawyer screaming in pain, “I am dying. …save me, please send the money, I am dying,” before the phone finally went dead again,” the statement added.

While making frantic efforts for Nwamaka’s rescue, the family said, they were informed on Tuesday, 6th January, that “a lady had been found in a critical condition and taken to an Abuja specialist hospital.”

According to the statement, Maureen “immediately took a flight from Lagos to Abuja and on reaching the hospital, saw her sister’s lifeless body in the mortuary with bruises, swollen eyes and a cracked skull, all signs of a tortured death.”

The Chigbo family has met with the Police authorities, who assured them that the case was under investigation and that the culprits would be apprehended, the statement added.

Nwamaka was a former Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja, a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, and the Global Association of Female Lawyers, GAFA. She had also served as President of the Catholic Lawyers Association, Abuja Branch.

A devout Catholic, Nwamaka authored a book on Infant Jesus, and until her death, was the vice president of the Infant Jesus Association, and a member of the Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Group.

According to the statement, her family has expressed its “gratitude to the Police for their efforts and cooperation so far, and urges the force to ensure that justice is served in Nwamaka’s case.”

The family also thanked “Nwamaka’s friends, colleagues and well-wishers for their support and prayers,” the statement said, adding that her funeral arrangements “will be announced as soon as possible.”

The lawyer lost her life to ruthless “one-chance” armed robbers on January 6, 2026, while heading home after work and evening mass.

Obi shared details of the Saturday visit on his X handle, confirming he had stopped by Dr. Chigbo’s earlier that day to console her amid the profound loss.

Obi wrote: “Earlier today in Abuja, I paid a condolence visit to my dear sister, Maureen Chigbo, the Publisher of Realnews Online Magazine and the immediate past President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

“She tragically lost her elder sister, Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo, on Monday, January 6, 2026.

As a practicing lawyer and a patriotic Nigerian dedicated to creating a better society, she had traveled home for the Christmas holidays but had to return to Abuja for a court case. After attending evening Mass, she was abducted on her way home and brutally murdered.

Igbo Community rejects Tinubu’s  re-election bid, calls Uzodimma’s endorsement a sham

THE Igbo community has slammed Governor Hope Uzodimma’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, calling it a “fake endorsement” and vowing not to support the President.

According to Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, President of the Igbo Community Association, FCT, “President Tinubu has not done enough to deserve such “Uzodimma-engineered endorsement.”

The Igbo community feels marginalized and excluded from the country’s economic and political mainstream, and many argue that Tinubu’s administration has perpetuated this trend.

“Tinubu has been bad to the Igbo community, and we will not vote for him,” Ellis-Ezenekwe said, adding that “He is a failed President.”

Uzodimma had rallied South East APC stakeholders behind Tinubu’s re-election, citing the need for the region to reposition itself within Nigeria’s political landscape.

However, the Igbo community sees this as a desperate attempt to clove support for Tinubu.

“Igbos are not part of this endorsement,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe. “This is a sham, a publicity stunt by Uzodimma to boost his own political career.”

The Igbo community is calling on other Nigerians to reject Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing his poor track record and lack of commitment to addressing the country’s pressing issues.

    *Uzodimma’s claims dismissed*

The Igbo community has dismissed Uzodimma’s claims that the APC is gaining strength in the South East, saying it’s a gross exaggeration.

“APC is not popular in Igboland,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe. “It’s only Uzodimma and a few others who are trying to force it down our throats.”

The community also questioned Uzodimma’s assertion that Tinubu’s reforms are yielding results, saying the opposite is the case.

“The economy is in shambles, insecurity is rampant, and our children are suffering,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe. “What reforms is he talking about?”

    *Call for accountability*

The Igbo community is calling on the APC and Tinubu’s administration to be accountable to the people and address the pressing issues affecting the country.

“We want to see action, not just words,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe. “If Tinubu can’t deliver, he should step aside and let someone else try.”

The community has vowed to mobilize against Tinubu’s re-election bid and ensure that he does not get the support he needs from the South East.

“This is not just about Igbo; it’s about Nigeria’s future,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe. “We will not sit back and watch our country destroyed
