He said the chemicals were intercepted during routine cargo examination just weeks before their expiration date.
“At the particular time of examination, the product was about a month to expiration and part of our guidelines is that if a product is about to be expired, it cannot enter the country.
“The contents of the container were found to violate import regulations and pose potential risks to public health.
“So, it was detained and we secured permission to forfeit the container and hand it over to NAFDAC,” he said.

He also commended the dedication of the officers of the command and the cooperation of compliant stakeholders.

He stated that the consignment would be destroyed following a thorough investigation.
FG develops unified housing delivery framework for coherence with institutions, states
By Bushrah Yusuf-Badmus
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa
The Federal Government said it has developed a unified Housing Delivery Framework to ensure ‘One Coherent National Housing Delivery System’ in the country.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Ahmed Dangiwa, made the disclosure on Thursday at the 14th National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Ilorin.
The council has its theme as ‘Achieving Housing Delivery and Sustainable Cities through Effective Land Management, Urban Renewal, Promotion of Local Building Materials, and Public–Private Partnerships in Nigeria’.
Dangiwa said the objective of this framework was to ensure that the ministry and all Federal Housing Institutions operate as ‘One Government’, with complementary and clearly defined roles.
He said this would be done while providing the state and local governments with a predictable and credible framework for collaboration on housing delivery.
”This is particularly important at a time when many states are experiencing improved fiscal capacity and requiring structured ways to work with the Federal Government to deliver housing at scale.
”Under this framework, State Governments are to participate as active counterparts across four flagship federal programmes.
“They are: The Renewed Hope Housing Programme, State-Led Social Housing Programme, State Urban Renewal and Inner-City Regeneration Programme and State Housing Public Private Partnership and Investment Platform.
”This Unified Framework represents a deliberate shift from fragmented interventions to coordinated national delivery,” Dangiwa said.
He added that the Federal Government provides leadership, institutions, and finance while the states provide land and subsidies, execution, local leadership and counterpart or additional budgetary funding or interventions to complement federal efforts.
Dangiwa, however, urged all the states to treat land reform not as a routine administrative matter, but as a deliberate economic growth strategy, that would increase IGR, empower the citizens and grow GDP.
He said no country can solve its housing challenge without fixing its land system as secure land titles reduce risk, unlock capital, and empower citizens.
In his remarks, Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said the theme of the council was interesting in the light of the contemporary challenges of population surge, affordable as well as decent housing, urbanisation, and sustainable and orderly living.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Kayode Alabi, said over the past six years, his administration had executed bold measures to promote a more transparent as well as efficient land administration and management in the State.
”The Kwara State Geographic Information Service, (KWAGIS) had been restructured and strengthened for a more seamless land administration.
”The State is also actively pursuing a grand urban renewal agenda that prioritises enforcement of physical development regulations for orderly growth and sustainable living,” he said.
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning, Hon. Abiante Awaji, pledged the house’s legislative support and oversight framework that promotes efficient land administration, sustainable urban renewal, and inclusive housing delivery across Nigeria.
Awaji said the house was ready to work closely with the ministry and all other relevant stakeholders to translate the outcomes of this council into actionable legislation, oversight, and measurable impact.
He said urban renewal consultations was not just about the physical revitalisation of the cities, but about restoring hope and enhancing the quality of life for the citizens.
”It provides an opportunity to reclaim neglected spaces and transform them into thriving communities that reflect our cultural heritage and aspirations,” Awaji said.
The council meeting which started on Monday and climaxed on Thursday brought together key stakeholders, policymakers, professionals, and experts within the built environment.
Justice Modupe-Osho Adebiyi of High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has lashed out at the Ghanaians; Sam Jonah, Kojo Mensah and Victor Quianoo in the criminal charge preferred against them and their lawyer, Abu Arome, by the Nigerian police for attempting to compromise her court.
The Nigerian Police had after its final investigation report and considering a forensic report, charged the Ghanaians to court over allegation of falsified ownership documents of high brow River Park Estate.
The police had alleged in the struck out charge that the accused persons illegally increased share capital and used forged documents for companies like Jonah Capital Nigeria Limited and Houses for Africa Nigeria Limited, to attempt to claim ownership of River Park Estate.
However, while their arraignment was pending in court, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, directed that the criminal charges filed against the Ghanaian investors and their Nigerian lawyer be put on hold and the case file handed over to his office.
On January 2, the AGF officially announced termination of the proceedings due to insufficient evidence for fraud and forgery allegations, claiming they had no case to answer.
However, in a ruling on the matter, Justice Modupe-Osho Adebiyi berated the accused persons for attempting to bribe her with money through the court’s registrar.
The judge who was visibly angry, roared and warned that she is not the type of person that can be bought to compromise cases before her, insisting that such acts would be punished if it ever occurred again.
Lawyers in court took turn to express their dismay at persons standing trial attempting to bribe a judge as this again strikes at the heart of corruption within the Nigeria system.
Meanwhile, following the notice of discountenance of the charge filed by the AGF, the judge was minded to strike out the charge against the accused Ghanaians and Abu Arome.

A prosecution witness, SP Joel Nimfa, on Thursday, testified before the Federal High Court in Abuja in the ongoing case involving Erisco Foods Limited and the defendant, Chioma Okoli.
Nimfa who is the second prosecution witness (PW2), told the court that he was attached to the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, now known as the Police Monitoring Unit at the Force Headquarters.
He also told the court that he knew the defendant because he led the team that investigated the matter.
He said the petition was assigned to his unit and that he personally led the investigation team to Lagos, where the defendant was arrested.
According to the witness, after the defendant was brought to Abuja, she was asked to write and publish a letter of apology.
He alleged that although Okoli wrote the letter, she failed to publish it on her Facebook page as instructed.
SP Nimfa told the court that the management of Erisco Foods made several attempts to reach the defendant through phone calls but received no response.
He said this led the complainant to return to the police to report that the defendant had failed to comply with the agreement to publish the apology.
The witness further testified that the complainant, expressed fear for his life, stating that he did not know who might have collaborated with the defendant to damage his business.
He said there were widespread online campaigns allegedly led by the defendant and her associates, calling on members of the public to boycott Erisco Foods’ products.
During the investigation, SP Nimfa said the police discovered that Erisco Foods was a duly registered company with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and that its products were approved by relevant regulatory bodies.
“These include the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency,” he said.
He explained that it was standard investigative procedure to verify the registration and certification status of companies involved in such complaints, adding that all the agencies confirmed that Erisco Foods’ products were safe and posed no health risk.
The witness said the information and documents relied upon during the investigation were provided by the complainant and further verified through online inquiries.
He listed the documents to include the complainant’s statement, screenshots of NAFDAC and SON certificates, Lagos State Consumer Protection certificates, screenshots of online posts calling for a boycott of Erisco Foods’ products, all accompanied by a certificate of compliance.
Nimfa also testified that a protest, which he described as riotous, took place in front of the Erisco Foods premises, where protesters repeatedly hit the company’s gate.
He said photographs of the incident were submitted to the investigating unit.
According to him, it was presumed that the protest was organised by the defendant, adding that the protesters were chanting slogans calling for the defendant to be left alone while urging the public to boycott Erisco Foods’ products.
The witness further told the court that the petition against the defendant was written by one Nnamdi Nwokolo on behalf of Erisco Foods Limited.
He also said that the defendant’s failure to provide evidence to support her negative review of the product formed a major part of the case.
According to him, the defendant could not provide evidence of the specific product she claimed to have used.
He said she told investigators that she tasted the product and asked her husband to do the same, but neither could consume it, and no sample of the alleged harmful product was provided for analysis.
The witness further informed the court that the defendant appeared on a television programme where she claimed she was poor and alleged that the company owner and the police were intimidating her because of her status.
The trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu subsequently adjourned the matter until February 24, 25 and 26 for the prosecution to close its case.
Okoli is facing a two-count charge bordering on cybercrime.
She was sued over a Facebook post she shared on Sept. 17, 2023, in which she claimed she bought Nagiko Tomato Mix from Erisco Foods and found it “utterly sugary.”

SYDNEY, (Xinhua)/Fl — A gunman remained at large on Thursday night after three people were shot dead west of Sydney in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW).
NSW Police Force Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland told reporters on Thursday night that officers were called to reports of shots fired in the small town of Lake Cargelligo, 450 km west of Sydney, around 4:20 p.m. local time on Thursday.
Officers arrived at the scene and found that a man and a woman had been fatally shot inside a vehicle, Holland said.
Police were then called to a second report of shots fired at a separate location, where they found another man and woman with gunshot wounds. The woman died, and the man was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Holland said that police have identified the offender who is believed to have fled the area in a vehicle, with a major search underway involving officers from all sections of the NSW Police Force.
“We are requesting that people remain indoors in the Lake Cargelligo area for their own safety,” he said.
He said that authorities were considering deploying officers from the public order riot squad to ensure the safety of the community.
Nine Entertainment newspapers reported on Thursday night that police were treating the incident as a suspected domestic violence attack.
Holland did not confirm any motive for the attack, but said that police in NSW are on “high alert” for shootings following the terror attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach in December.
The shooting on Thursday occurred two days after the federal parliament passed legislation for gun ownership reforms proposed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in the wake of the Bondi attack, which was Australia’s most deadly mass shooting since 1996.
The legislation introduced new laws to tighten restrictions on the import of firearms, parts and ammunition, stricter and more frequent background checks for gun licenses, and established a national firearms buyback scheme that will allow Australians to surrender firearms for financial compensation.
Albanese said on Wednesday that Australians were safer because of the new laws.
The state parliament of NSW separately passed legislation in December that capped the number of firearms an individual can legally own at four and restricted ownership of certain high-powered firearms to farmers.

By
Ilorin; The Builders, Construction and Skilled Artisans of Nigeria (BACSAAN) has called on the Federal Government to organise trainings on the latest technology for its members to enhance their professionalism.

Fasasi while commending President Bola Tinubu’s administration for including its members in developmental programmes and policies, said the artisans needed to be kept abreast with the use of latest technologies.
He said the trainings normally organized for some of their members was just a little improvement from what they used to know which is not in conformity with the latest trends.
”The Agencies gets us involved in their programmes and they train our members from time to time, but what they teach them is not totally different from what we have known for years.
”We are aware that there are technologies that can enhance our performances, but we do not have access to them, that is why we want the government to come to our aid.
”If the federal government can support us to send some artisans to other countries for a week or two-weeks training, it will go a long way for us,” he said.
The BACSAAN president said Nigerian artisans were better than their Togolose or Malian counterparts that most people believed in, they just need to be brushed up a little.
He said with an upgrade in their skills, individuals and organizations would not have to rely on foreign artisans for their jobs, as they would have been equipped.
