Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola has bemoaned the death of Comrade Abiodun Aremu
The labour movement activist
was killed on Sunday, October 12, by a hit-and-run vehicle near his residence in Ota, Ogun State, while he was crossing the road around 6 p.m. He was aged 65 years.
In a condolence message titled
“The Torchbearer of Conscience Bows Out — A Tribute to Comrade Abiodun Aremu”, Ambassador Isola wrote: “In the vastness of human existence, death remains the most certain and humbling end of all mortal beings. No matter one’s influence, intellect, conviction, or compassion, every man must eventually heed the call of eternity. It is the ultimate leveller that silences the mighty and the meek alike — reminding us that our time on earth is transient, and our deeds are the only true immortality we leave behind.
“The demise of Comrade Abiodun Aremu, fondly known as Aremson, brings this truth to our consciousness with poignant clarity. Here was a man who dedicated his entire life to the emancipation of the oppressed and the pursuit of a just society. His voice echoed in the corridors of activism, his steps marched in rhythm with the people, and his convictions stood as a fortress for justice and equality. Yet, even such a fiery spirit could not escape the inevitable — the cold summons of mortality.
“Comrade Abiodun Aremu was not just an activist; he was a conscience. As the Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF), he stood at the intersection of courage and sacrifice. His activism was never driven by ego or ambition but by purpose — to liberate the downtrodden, awaken national consciousness, and build a Nigeria where fairness and equity reign supreme.
“Those who encounter Aremson will remember his simplicity, his depth of thought, and his unwavering belief in the people’s capacity to reclaim their destiny. He embodied a generation of patriots who refused to bow before injustice. His passing, therefore, is not merely the death of a man; it is the transition of a movement’s moral pillar into eternal rest.
“Indeed, death is inevitable — but the legacies of men like Aremson outlive the grave. His voice may be silent, but his ideals continue to whisper through every struggle for truth, fairness, and democratic integrity in our nation.
“As we mourn this monumental loss, we are reminded that the greatest tribute we can offer is to keep alive the cause for which he lived — the cause of justice, equality, and human dignity. Aremson’s struggle lives on in our hearts, and your name shall remain engraved in the chronicles of Nigeria’s democratic awakening.
“On behalf of my family, and in personal reflection as a fellow advocate for justice and equity, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Comrade Abiodun Aremu, the leadership and members of the Joint Action Front (JAF), his friends, associates, and fellow comrades across the nation and beyond.
“It is my prayer that, may the Almighty God grant eternal rest to his noble soul, may He comfort his family and strengthen all comrades in the struggle he championed with unyielding passion, and may his legacy of truth and courage continue to inspire generations yet unborn.
“Adieu, Comrade Abiodun Aremu.”
