The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Enugu State Command has dismissed an online report on kidnapper of 12-year-old girl in Rivers State traced to someone serving within Enugu Custodial Centre.
The Command’s Spokesperson, DSC Dympuna Ugwu, in a statement on Monday in Enugu, said that the online report remained “fake, big falsehood and with no iota of truth.”
According to Ugwu, the attention of the NCoS Enugu State Command has been drawn to an online publication dated April18, 2025; alleging complicity in the kidnap of a 12-year-old girl in Rivers State.
She said, “The Command wishes to unequivocally debunk the story as false, malicious and figment of the writer’s imagination aimed at misleading the general public.
“The Command has no inmate in any of its facilities bearing Chi boy.
“The Command is not aware of any kidnap at Rivers State or any other place and therefore not in a position to confirm payment of ransom or whatsoever transaction.
“The Command has no role in the said kidnap of any 12-year-old girl.”
The spokesperson said that the NCoS as a security organisation do not operate in isolation as it cooperates with other sister agencies to ensure adequate security and would never turn down requests of investigation activities from sister agencies.
Ugwu, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Corrections, also said that the purported Enaafe Georgewill, who addressed the press, had at no time visited NCoS Enugu State Command or any of its custodial centres to corroborate his claims.
She said, “It is therefore of note that his claims are malicious and intended to tarnish the image of the Service.
“The NCoS is a disciplined security organisation that will not aid or abate criminal activities of any kind and therefore enjoin the members of the press to always fact-check report before publication to avoid misleading the public.”
