The Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), an NGO, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, to put more focus on food security for Nigerians by improving on provision of tractors and agro-inputs.
The President of NUF, Chief Augustine Chukwudum, told newsmen on Monday in Enugu that the full mechanisation of the agricultural sector would lead to bumper harvest.
Chukwudum said that full tractor mechanisation of arable farmlands would unlock about 25 million direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians and create greater potential for export drive.
“NUF calls on President Tinubu to provide massive tractors, farming inputs and tools needed by farmers to produce food in larger quantities.
“Nigeria has so much arable land and our farmers needed support from all tiers of government, which should be coordinated from the office of the President to show the seriousness President Tinubu attached to food security for all.
“If our agriculture sector is well harnessed, more than 25 million direct and indirect jobs will be created and our youths will be gainfully engaged,” he said.
The NUF boss also called on Tinubu to prioritise appointment of technocrats as ministers and head of government departments and agencies to help facilitate the growth needed in the country.
He said that the current back and forth on crude oil delivery between Dangote Group and Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) “is not in the best interest of the country.”
“We call on President Tinubu to stop exportation of raw crude oil by NNPCL until the demand for the product by Dangote Refinery is met.
“We have the largest refinery in the world built by Dangote Group in the country; the Federal Government must support the group by supplying the group with crude oil.
“This will encourage more investors, create employment opportunities and checkmate insecurity to the barest minimum as well as strengthen our local currency and economy,” he said.
