An early downpour has delayed arrival of materials and electoral personnel
within polling booths in Enugu.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) had fixed today, Sept. 21, as election day for the 17 chairmanship and 260 ward councilorship positions in the state.
It was gathered that after the down pour, the electoral materials distribution centre in Enugu South Local Government Area, started sorting out the materials for onward distribution.
One of the electoral staff, who simply gave his name as Kelvin, said that the distribution centre witnessed delay due to the weather condition.
“However, we have concluded the sorting and vehicles have started onward dispatch of the non sensitive and sensitive materials as well as electoral personnel to the respective polling units,” he said.
Recalls that the voting would be done manually as the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) did not plan to use technological devices.
17 political parties are participating in the election and the state have over two million eligible voters expected to participate in the election.
The election would cover 4,145 polling units; while 12,800 ad hoc electoral staff, hundreds of electoral staff and 17 electoral officers were trained and deployed for the election.
A total of 4,145 security personnel had been deployed for the election as well.
