The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has tasked Enugu State Ministry of Transport (MOT) tax enforcement agents on human face and empathy while carrying out their tax enforcement duties.
The state’s Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Barth Okoh, gave the task on Monday in Enugu while speaking with newsmen on activities of the ministry’s tax enforcement officials recentlyy in the state.
Okoh noted that as the ministry’s tax enforcement officials carry out their duties, they should remember the human impact of their actions especially actions that have direct impact on the people’s daily economy and life.
According to him, Enugu State citizens are not mere (financial) targets to be met, but individuals with stories, struggles and aspirations.
“We urge you to reject any daily (financial) targets that prioritise revenue over human dignity.
“Instead, embrace an approach that balances enforcement with empathy and understanding.
“In these challenging times, Nigerians needs compassion, not oppression.
“Let us work together to create a society where citizens feel supported, not exploited,” he said.
The NYCN leader reminded the enforcement agents that their role “is to serve with integrity, protect with kindness and enforce with fairness.”
“Let us build a better future for ourselves and generations to come through our positive actions and empathy towards one another,” he added.
