Kano Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo resigns amid impeachment proceedings
By Aminu GarkoKano: The Kwankwasiyya Movement, on Friday, announced the resignation of Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, describing the development as a difficult but necessary decision taken in the interest of governance and stability. This is contained in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Dr Habibu Mohammed, in Kano on Friday. The group said the resignation would take effect later in the day, bringing an end to the deputy governor’s tenure in office.“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform the general public that the deputy governor of Kano state has tendered his resignation from office, effective later today,” the statement read.According to the movement, the decision is influenced by prevailing circumstances that have limited the deputy governor’s ability to fully discharge his responsibilities.“This decision, though difficult, has been taken in the overall interest of the people and the stability of governance in Kano state.“Recent circumstances have constrained the full realisation of the benefits and responsibilities attached to the office,” the statement said. The group, however, dismissed any suggestion that the resignation was an admission of guilt over allegations reportedly raised by the Kano State House of Assembly.“For the avoidance of doubt, this resignation does not in any way constitute an admission of the allegations,” the statement said, insisting that the deputy governor “maintains his innocence” and stands by his record in public service. It further described the resignation as an act of statesmanship, aimed at reducing political tension and promoting peace within the state’s governance structure.“Rather, this step is a demonstration of statesmanship and a commitment to peace, political maturity, and the avoidance of unnecessary tension,” the statement added. The movement also revealed that the former deputy governor would now focus on political activities, particularly strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.“He has resolved to dedicate more time and energy to strengthening its structures, rebuilding strategies, and engaging in critical political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the statement said. The Kwankwasiyya Movement urged its supporters and residents of Kano state to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that further details regarding the development would be communicated in due course. Governor Abba’s Entry into the APC: How Tinubu’s Political Arithmetic Collapsed in Kano
By Kabiru Inuwa Hayinhago
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is widely acknowledged as a master of political calculation, a leader whose career has been shaped by strategic foresight and numerical precision. Yet, in the peculiar case of Kano State, it appears that his trusted political calculator has malfunctioned or worse, had its batteries quietly removed by misguided advisers. The proposed entry of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the APC has thrown Tinubu’s Kano strategy into disarray, as prevailing political realities and public sentiment suggest that securing victory in the state through this move would be an uphill, if not impossible, task.
To begin with, unless Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso himself crosses over into the APC, the idea of Abba’s defection remains politically hollow. The Kwankwasiyya movement is not merely a political tendency; it is an ideology anchored in personal loyalty to Kwankwaso. A significant number of its adherents would rather abandon Governor Abba than abandon Kwankwaso. Consequently, if Tinubu hopes to harvest Kano’s votes through Abba alone, he is confronted with a fundamental miscalculation that undermines the entire strategy.
Equally problematic is the emotional and political memory of APC loyalists in Kano, many of whom find forgiveness difficult. The scars from the prolonged legal battles remain fresh particularly the moment when victory seemed assured for Nasiru Gawuna, only for the political inheritance long guarded by party faithful to slip unexpectedly into the hands of an outsider. Such wounds are not easily healed. Even if reconciliation is possible among individuals, extending that forgiveness to Tinubu himself is far more complex. Once again, the political numbers refuse to balance.
Another critical factor lies with the aggrieved traders whose shops were demolished across Kano. Many of them view election day as an opportunity for political retaliation. Should Governor Abba enter the APC, their anger would naturally be redirected toward the party that accommodated their perceived adversary. In such a scenario, rather than gaining votes, the APC risks inheriting resentment, protest ballots, and organised opposition yet another obstacle in Tinubu’s troubled political equation.
Then there are the devoted supporters of Senator Barau Jibrin people like us who have witnessed his steadfast commitment to the APC even in the aftermath of electoral defeat. For years, he held the party together as though it had never fallen. When public pressure mounted for him to contest the governorship and he accepted, only for Abba to ultimately emerge as governor, it was Barau’s calming influence and appeal for patience that prevented a political rupture. Without his intervention, the party might have fractured irreparably. This reality further exposes how fragile Tinubu’s Kano calculations truly are.
Finally, no analysis of Kano politics is complete without confronting the deeply sensitive emirate question: who rightfully occupies the throne Sanusi or Aminu? If Governor Abba joins the APC and Aminu is removed in favour of Sanusi, it would be unrealistic to expect Aminu’s loyalists to cast their ballots for Tinubu. Emirate loyalty in Kano is emotional, historical, and fiercely defended. Ignoring this dimension only deepens the cracks in Tinubu’s already unstable political arithmetic. In conclusion, while time still offers a narrow window for correction, prudence demands that President Tinubu does not allow night to fall before shelving the idea of Governor Abba’s entry into the APC. In the desperate pursuit of short-term political gain, he risks losing Kano entirely. This is not opposition rhetoric; it is free, sincere, and strategic advice.

BREAKING: New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Pleads With Kano Governor Yusuf To Stay, Not To Defect To APC
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has appealed to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to remain with the party amid growing talks of a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party said the call was necessary due to rising political speculations suggesting that the governor and some party members may be considering a move to the ruling party at the federal level.
Speaking in Kano, the NNPP Chairman in the state, Suleiman Hashim Dungurawa, said the plea reflects the collective decision of party leaders and members across Kano.
“On behalf of all of us collectively, we once again appeal to them, for the sake of Allah and the Prophet, not to leave this party and not to defect to the party that we have opposed,” Dungurawa said.
He urged Governor Yusuf and other elected officials under the NNPP platform to remember the trust given to them by voters during the 2023 general elections.
According to him, the party’s mandate in Kano was built on shared principles and promises made to the people.
Dungurawa explained that the NNPP leadership was actively working to resolve internal disagreements that may have fueled defection rumours. He said consultations were ongoing to prevent divisions within the party.
He also noted that the party’s national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other key stakeholders, remained firmly opposed to any alliance or movement towards the APC.
“We did everything within our power to persuade them to be patient and not defect to the APC, because of our responsibility to them and our responsibility to the people of Kano,” he stated.
The NNPP chairman rejected claims that some party leaders were attempting to create tension between Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso.
He described such allegations as false and misleading.
“We have never put anyone against our leader, and if anyone has evidence, let them present it,” he said.
Dungurawa further advised party members to be cautious of documents allegedly circulating online and offline, warning that such materials were the handiwork of individuals seeking to destabilise the party.
He also called on residents of Kano State to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, assuring them that efforts were being made to safeguard political stability in the state.
Reacting to the development, the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature, confirmed that internal disagreements exist within the party.
“Yes, there are issues within the party, and we are aware of the disagreements,” Bature said. “However, I cannot speak on any matter relating to defection at this time”.
Governor Yusuf, who emerged victorious on the NNPP platform in the 2023 governorship election, remains the party’s only sitting governor nationwide.
His government has not officially declared any intention to leave the party despite persistent claims by rival political groups.
The NNPP said it would continue engagements with its leaders, elected officials, and supporters in Kano to strengthen unity and protect the party’s political structure in the state..Read The Complete Original.

Group condemns alleged unlawful establishment of parallel Hisbah group in Kano
A rights group, under the auspices of the Advocacy for Human Rights and Cultural Values for Development Initiative (AHRCVDI), has condemned the establishment of a parallel Hisbah group, known as “Hisba Independent Fisabilillahi,” in Kano State.
The Executive Director of AHRCVDI, Comrade Sambo Jibril Jada, gave the condemnation on Monday in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
Jada, who expressed concern over the creation, alleged that the parallel group was set up by associates of a former governor of the state.
“This action, reportedly spearheaded by former state officials, is a brazen and reckless attempt to create an illegal parallel security and moral policing architecture outside the constitutional and legal framework of Kano State.
“It constitutes a direct assault on the sovereignty of the state, the authority of its elected government, and the established rule of law.
“We view this development not as a religious initiative but as a dangerous political gambit with the potential to plunge Kano State into unprecedented chaos.
“The establishment of a rival enforcement body undermines the legally recognised Hisbah Commission, creates confusion among citizens, and sows the seeds for possible violent conflict between groups claiming authority,” he said.
Jada, therefore, listed some of the AHRCVDI’s concerns.
“Our core concerns are as follows:
“Threat to Public Order and Security: The creation of this group is an act of sabotage against the peace and security of Kano State.
“It invites anarchy by promoting multiple, competing centers of enforcement power.
“Violation of the Rule of Law: No individual or group, regardless of their former status, is above the law.
“This initiative appears to have no legal backing from the current Kano State House of Assembly or the Executive, rendering it an illegitimate and unlawful association.
“High Risk of Human Rights Abuses: Unregulated and unaccountable vigilante groups inevitably lead to arbitrary arrests, intimidation, and the violation of citizens’ fundamental rights without due process or recourse,” he said.
The executive director called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to immediately issue a strong public statement declaring the group illegal and ordering its cessation.
“We call on the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and all relevant security agencies in Kano State to swiftly intervene.
“They must stop the operationalisation of this group, arrest its promoters for questioning, and investigate the full motives and funding behind this destabilizing project.
“We urge the good people of Kano State to remain law-abiding, recognise only the duly constituted state authorities, and reject any attempts to be recruited into or coerced by this illegitimate body.
“Nobody is above the law. Allowing this group to proceed sets a dangerous precedent that political figures can create personal militias, which is a direct threat to our democracy and the safety of every citizen.
“We will be monitoring this situation closely and are prepared to take further legal and advocacy actions to ensure the preservation of peace and constitutional order in Kano State,” Jada concluded.
