2027: Jonathan Posters Surface in Northern Cities; Fuels Speculations

Campaign posters promoting former President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2027 presidential election have surfaced in parts of northern Nigeria, sparking fresh political speculation ahead of the next general election, Blueprint gathered.

The posters, which appeared overnight in key locations across Kaduna, Kano and Katsina, carried slogans suggesting a possible return to national politics for the former Nigerian leader who served from 2010 to 2015.

In Kaduna, several of the posters were sighted along the busy Ahmadu Bello Way and around the popular Kawo Bridge, drawing the attention of commuters and residents early Monday morning.

The posters bore inscriptions such as “One Term to Reset, One Nation to Unite” and “2027: Sai Maimalfa,” fuelling conversations among political observers and residents about the possibility of Jonathan returning to the presidential race.

A group identified as the GEJ Restoration Movement claimed responsibility for the posters, describing the action as part of a grassroots effort aimed at encouraging the former president to consider another run for office.

According to the group, Jonathan remained a unifying figure who could help address the country’s political divisions and economic challenges if he returns to leadership.

However, there has been no official statement from the former president regarding the posters or any intention to contest the 2027 election.

The development has also generated reactions within political circles, with some analysts suggesting that the appearance of the posters reflects growing political realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Meanwhile, supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have downplayed the development, describing it as routine political activity often seen years before

  • Goodluck/Kwankwaso Ticket Will Upstage Tinubu in 2027

Goodluck/Kwankwaso Ticket Will Upstage Tinubu in 2027

A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party and Convener, Goodluck Nigeria, Emma Umerah, has expressed deep conviction that is only Jonathan and Kwankwaso ticket in 2027 Presidential Election that would upstatge the incumbent president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umerah made the statement in a chat with journalists in Lagos, on Monday, March 9, 2026.

He added that Jonathan would do one term and redirect the nation on the part of political, economic and social growth and development which he said is currently lacking in Nigeria.

Umerah, a former National member, Atiku Campaign Council, maintained that Goodluck Jonathan is a gentleman to the core, a man that keeps agreement.

He said, “As a gentleman, during the 2015 election, he accepted defeat and congratulated Buhari. If he is not a gentleman he would not have accepted defeat and the country would be in turmoil, but he allowed peace to reign because he does not want trouble in Nigeria.”

Umerah revealed that as much as the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is an experienced politician from the northern part of Nigeria with large following, he would bring the number and his presence would also assuage the yearning of the North to dislodge the incumbent president.

He stated that while piloting the affairs of the country as president, Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency (2010–2015) was characterized by transformations. He transformed Nigeria into Africa’s largest economy (2014) through GDP rebasing, and ensured significant infrastructure development (rail, airports, roads), and strengthening democratic institutions, notably through electoral reforms.

Umerah further said that Jonathan’s administration implemented various fiscal reforms, including the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

He disclosed further, “In Infrastructure Development, his administration invested in infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges, and power generation. Jonathan’s administration launched initiatives to boost agricultural productivity and food security. His leadership style believed so much in Consensus-Building. Jonathan is known for his ability to build consensus and negotiate with different stakeholders, his leadership style emphasized inclusiveness and dialogue and Jonathan has a reputation for seeking peaceful resolutions to conflicts.”

He also articulated some of what he believed was achievements of Jonathan while in office, which included creating 12 federal universities and boosting local content in the oil sector, he Implemented policies that encouraged agricultural investment and reduced food imports, boosting local production.

With regards to Local Content Law, he Signed the Nigerian Content Act (2010), empowering indigenous companies in the oil and gas sector. Also his administration revamped the national railway system, including the rehabilitation of lines and the introduction of new routes like the Abuja-Kaduna line.

In Aviation Upgrade, he Remodeled all 22 federal airports and installed modern navigation equipment. While in Road Construction, he invested in key roads, including the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Benin expressway and the initiation of the Second Niger Bridge project.

“Goodluck ensured Democratic Reforms & Governance which enhanced Electoral Integrity, he Strengthened the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), resulting in more credible elections. Goodluck Jonathan was widely praised for conceding the 2015 presidential election, which bolstered democratic stability in Nigeria.

On Freedom of Expression, he encouraged and Maintained a largely free press with minimal government interference, marking a departure from previous eras.

Aside the establishment of 12 new federal universities to increase access to tertiary education, he also initiated solid Almajiri Education Programme, he built over 160 special schools to integrate modern education into Islamic learning systems in the North.

Also on Women Empowerment, he appointed women to significant positions, including the first female Chief Justice of Nigeria and the first female President of the Court of Appeal.
In Health & Technology his response to Ebola crisis was swift, he led an effective, internationally recognized response to contain the Ebola virus outbreak in 2014.

  • Ex-President Jonathan, Tompolo’s secret meeting in Bayelsa deceptive– Southern Ijaw Stakeholders

Ex-President Jonathan, Tompolo’s secret meeting in Bayelsa deceptive– Southern Ijaw Stakeholders

    By

A coalition of stakeholders and youth groups from Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, on Sunday, described the meeting between former President Goodluck Jonathan and Mr Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, as “deceptive.”

The coalition faulted Mr Tompolo over his recent visit to the state and the secret meeting with ex-President Jonathan, saying that something fishy is going on which the Federal Government needs to pay attention to.

The group said claims by both individuals that the secret meeting was meant to deliberate on issues relating to security and peace in the Niger Delta are entirely deceptive and provocative because of the nature of persons involved.

In a statement on Sunday, the coalition of youths, including the Southern Ijaw Unity Forum, the SILGA United Voices for Peace, One Southern Ijaw Agenda, and the Indigenous Movement for SILGA Development, acknowledged that freedom of movement is a fundamental human right under the 1999 Constitution, but noted that Tompolo’s visit to Bayelsa on the 17th of October, 2025 signalled provocative political interests capable of fueling political crisis in the state.

The group said that there is the urgent need for proactive security intervention.

The statement was jointly signed by Comrade Timothy Amadiowei, Mrs Victoria Elijah, Chief Thompson Kurobo and Josiah Apoi on behalf of their various groups.

They said it is very sad that former President Goodluck Jonathan is talking about security and peace in the Niger Delta whereas scores of persons were massacred in Igbomotoru Community in Southern Ijaw on March 27, 2024 with no word or statement from him on how to address such a genocide that happened in his own state.

They said, not only did the former President pay no attention to the killings, but he also failed to call those who masterminded the massacre to order.

According to them, Jonathan knows the level of bitterness, tension and rift the March 27 2024 incident has created in the Niger Delta among different parties from the Ijaw struggle platform, but he failed to broker peace among them, and even when the incident degenerated to blackmails, witch-hunts and victimisation in which stakeholders were accused of crimes they knew nothing about so that they could be nailed, the former President did nothing.

They said when people’s houses were being burnt down and others forced to flee their homes, the former President said nothing, but sadly enough, he is now telling the world that the secret meeting was about peace and security when he has neglected to call aggrieved stakeholders to broker peace.

“The massacre of over 80 persons in Igbomotoru Community on the 27th of March, 2024 still remains fresh in the minds of Bayelsans and the international scene.

“Properties worth billions of Naira were wantonly destroyed during the Igbomotoru raid allegedly masterminded by surveillance contractors because of political interests and nobody said anything about it.

“Jonathan is talking about peace when he’s aware of the atrocities committed across the Ijaw nation by pipeline surveillance contractors – what peace efforts has he made to reach out to stakeholders offended by these surveillance contractors?

“Families are still mourning the massacre of over 80 people in Igbomotoru and Jonathan did not say anything about it. Are they not Bayelsans, are they not Nigerians? This secret meeting on peace and security in the Niger Delta is deceptive.

“Many youths are being owed salaries by pipeline surveillance contractors running into several months with no indication that they will be paid, after putting their lives on the line to protect oil and gas facilities in the state, yet the former president has not used his position as a father to intervene,” they said.

They said a company owned by the surveillance contractor had not pay salaries of those it disengaged from service owing to political differences arising from the 2023 Bayelsa State Governorship elections and nobody said anything about it.

The coalition of youths urged President Bola Tinubu to be alert and not allow himself to be deceived by anybody, saying there’s a political undertone to Tompolo’s visit.

They said they are not comfortable with the fact that surveillance contractors from other regions are teleguiding the affairs of Bayelsa State by orchestrating chaos and crisis; while keeping their own communities and regions peaceful and developed.

They called on Bayelsans to maintain peace and be law-abiding during this political maneuvering by desperate politicians.

  • PDP Group Backs Jonathan For 2027 Presidential Election

PDP Group Backs Jonathan For 2027 Presidential Election

    By

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Northern Support Group has declared its full support for former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election, urging all party stakeholders to rally behind him in the interest of unity and national stability.

This is contained in a statement issued at the end of the group’s 8th meeting held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, held between Octm 8 and 9, 2025, and signed by Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar, Northern Coordinator, and Alhaji Adamu Ahmed Narayi, North-West Zonal Secretary, respectively.

The group said the time had come for the PDP to demonstrate renewed commitment and strategic focus ahead of 2027.

The statement emphasized that the PDP must consolidate its internal reconciliation efforts to reclaim power both at the national level and in states currently governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The PDP Northern Support Group believes that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains the most unifying and credible figure to lead Nigeria at this critical time. His experience, humility, and commitment to peace and national development make him the ideal candidate for 2027,” the statement read.

The group further reaffirmed its support for the National Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum, commending his ongoing efforts to reposition the party through reconciliation and forgiveness aimed at restoring unity and cohesion among members.

According to the group, the PDP Northern Support Group is a coalition of loyal party members and affiliate bodies spread across all 19 northern states, focused on dialogue, problem-solving, and mobilization to strengthen the party’s political structure.

It said participants at the Kebbi meeting reviewed the current state of the PDP and resolved to intensify nationwide mobilization, particularly in the North, through sustained dialogue, strategic engagement, and coordinated media campaigns to project the benefits of a Goodluck Jonathan presidency.

The group described Jonathan as a symbol of peace, unity, and progress, who has continued to demonstrate exceptional statesmanship and patriotism since leaving office.

“Dr. Jonathan has never abandoned the PDP. He has continued to represent stability and sacrifice for Nigeria’s democracy, and we believe his return to leadership will rekindle national hope and reconciliation,” the statement added.

The group, however, expressed concern over the negative conduct of some party leaders, warning that their actions could undermine ongoing reconciliation efforts.

Reaffirming the PDP’s strong grassroots presence across the North, the group said the party must take bold and decisive steps to restore internal discipline, rebuild its structures, and project its supremacy over individual interests.

“The PDP is not beyond redemption. With genuine commitment, collective sacrifice, and visionary leadership, the party can reclaim power and restore its lost glory,” it stated.

The PDP Northern Support Group pledged to continue promoting unity and solidarity within the party and to strengthen its position as the most credible alternative to the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It particularly cited the activities of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of divisive tendencies detrimental to the unity of the PDP.

The group urged the National Chairman to institute disciplinary measures against any stakeholder working against the party’s collective interest.

The group reaffirmed its support for the National Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum, commending his ongoing efforts to reposition the party

  • Jonathan’s ambition is not a threat to Tinubu’s re-election bid – TDF

    Jonathan’s ambition is not a threat to Tinubu’s re-election bid – TDF

    By Iyiola Olalere

‎The Democratic Front (TDF) has aligned with the position of the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on repeated calls by some politicians on former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the race for the presidency in 2027.

‎In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, TDF argued that it would be a good opportunity to remind the former President of how his poor handling of multiple oil booms boomeranged and stunted the country’s economic development.

‎The statement read: “We posit that Mr Bayo Onanuga was on point when he said that the former President’s entrance into the 2027 presidential race will remind Nigerians of his dismal record of service as President.

‎”TDF believes that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s entry into the 2027 presidential race will reawaken a national memory of the monumental corruption and inefficiency that defined his tenure between 2010 and 2015.

‎”Nigerians would be reminded of the self-indicting opinion expressed in a book written by the Jonathan era Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, ‘ Fighting Corruption is Dangerous’, on the brazen diversion and mismanagement of public funds during Jonathan’s regime.

‎”As a matter of fact, the former President’s attempt to stage a comeback in 2027 will offer Nigerians ample opportunity to review Okonjo Iweala’s book, which many believe was a summary indictment of the administration she served as Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister for the economy.

‎”We are of the view that a politician like Goodluck Jonathan, who presided over Nigeria at a time crude oil sold at $100 per barrel over a lengthy period of time during which Nigeria was doing about 2 million barrels per day, yet had little to show in terms of critical infrastructures, does not deserve re-election

‎”Furthermore, Jonathan’s ambition for the presidency in 2027 would remind the public of how his cluelessness and official negligence in the handling of national security breaches, led to the loss of thousands of Nigerian lives in the hands of the Boko Haram Terrorists.

‎”Nigerians would be too glad to request former President Jonathan to explain his inability to optimise national revenue by allocating enough money to state and local governments for the payment of workers’ salaries. It could be recalled that Okonjo Iweala’s book identified the dismal performance in revenue generation as a major reason for the government’s inability to pay salaries, both at the federal and sub-national levels.”

‎The group also took potshots at opposition elements, pushing the former president to go against President Tinubu in 2027.

‎”We consider it a delusion of grandeur for a politician like Professor Jerry Gana and his ilk to think that the former President’s entry into the presidential race on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) would turn the tide of victory against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming election.

‎”In case opposition politicians are not aware, the 2027 presidential election would not be an ordinary contest of personality. It will be a national referendum between an established history of monumental waste of resources and corruption by the PDP, and a rescue mission that has resulted in landmark economic growth and resurgence for Nigeria, under the Tinubu presidency.

‎”Indeed, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s entrance into the 2027 contest would create a major political setback for the opposition, as a result of his legacy of underperformance which was foisted on PDP’s culture of underachievement. TDF is, therefore, not in doubt that Nigerians would vote for the continuity of the success of Tinubu’s economic reforms in 2027,” the statement added.

President Goodluck Jonathan and the Momentum of 2027_By: Steve Azaiki

    By: Steve Azaiki

The name of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR—President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015—continues to generate conversations across Nigeria and in the diaspora. Today, when Dr. Hassan called me from Vancouver, Canada, he spoke not as a partisan but as a Nigerian with objectivity and reason. His reflections centered on the possibilities and implications of President Jonathan running for the 2027 presidential election.
Over the past months, more than thirty prominent Nigerians have, at one time or another, raised this same issue. Unfortunately, many of these discussions are often filtered through the familiar lenses of party,  tribe and religion.
Yet, as Dr. Hassan and Professor Ifedayo have emphasized, the real question is not about sectional sentiments but about leadership, vision, and Nigeria’s future.
Because of the growing pressure from objective voices such as theirs, I intend, upon my return to Nigeria, to meet with President Jonathan himself. I hope to ask him directly whether he is indeed considering a return to the presidency in 2027. Only then will I be able to give my friends and colleagues some clarity.
Whatever the answer, one thing is certain: the momentum around President Jonathan’s name is a reflection of his enduring relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
