Ajeromi Ifelodun Residents Commend OmoBarca as Muslims and Christians Break Fast Together

“God Will Bless Him”, Ajeromi Ifelodun Residents Commend OmoBarca as Muslims and Christians Break Fast Together

As Muslims and Christians simultaneously observe periods of fasting and prayer, many faithful see this sacred season as a time for introspection, spiritual renewal, and the strengthening of their relationship with God. While Catholic Christians around the world commenced the Lenten fast on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Muslims continue their season of devotion and prayer, creating a shared atmosphere of reflection, sacrifice, and compassion across faith lines.

In Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, this spirit of unity is being translated into practical action through a daily break-fast initiative organised by the Legit Foundation. Since 2015, the programme has provided meals to fasting individuals, offering both nourishment and encouragement during spiritually significant periods.

The initiative is led by Hon. Francis Bartholomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca. What began over a decade ago primarily as support for Muslims observing Ramadan has gradually evolved into an inclusive outreach that now also accommodates Christians observing Lent. Over the years, the effort has grown into a community tradition that reflects interfaith solidarity and social responsibility.

Each evening, residents from different religious backgrounds gather to break their fast together in an atmosphere marked by warmth, dignity, and mutual respect. The daily gathering has become more than a feeding programme; it serves as a platform for strengthening communal bonds and promoting peaceful coexistence.

Beneficiaries describe the initiative as a source of relief, particularly for the less privileged who may struggle to provide adequate meals during fasting periods. For many, the programme ensures that no one observes their fast in isolation or hardship.

“OmoBarca is feeding everybody irrespective of whether they are Christian or Muslim during this fasting period. Everybody comes here to break their fast,” said Deborah Okunbo, one of the beneficiaries.

Another participant, Lukmon Kareem, shared his long-standing connection to the programme. “I have been coming here to break fast since 2015, and I am still here today for Ramadan,” he said, underscoring the initiative’s consistency and impact over the years.

For Joy Amaka, the outreach carries both spiritual and emotional significance. “God will bless OmoBarca and bless everyone that is fasting in this period,” she said, expressing gratitude for the gesture.

According to OmoBarca, the objective of the initiative is straightforward: to give back to the community, extend support to those in need, and foster unity beyond religious differences. He emphasises that fasting and prayer are deeply spiritual exercises, and acts of charity during such periods reinforce the moral teachings shared by both Christianity and Islam.

Beyond providing daily meals, the outreach also extends assistance to vulnerable groups within the constituency, including the visually impaired and other underserved members of the community. This broader support underscores a guiding principle of the programme — that compassion transcends religious identity.

As Muslims and Christians continue their respective spiritual observances, the daily break-fast gathering in Ajeromi-Ifelodun stands as a practical demonstration of coexistence and shared humanity. In a diverse society where differences often dominate headlines, the initiative offers a reminder that generosity and empathy can unite communities in meaningful and lasting ways.

Ndarani SAN salutes Gov. Umaru-Bago on his birthday, lauds his transformative leadership

    By Mohammed Baba Busu

A legal luminary, Alhaji Muhammad Ndarani (SAN), the APC Senatorial Aspirant for Niger South Senatorial District, has congratulated Gov. Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger on the occasion of his birthday.

Ndarani who is also the Hukunchi Nupe and Kasan Hausaland, in a statement issued on Saturday in Minna, described Gov Umaru-Bago as a visionary and transformative leader whose commitment to agricultural revolution, infrastructural development and youth empowerment had repositioned the state for sustainable growth.

The learned silk said the governor’s passion for grassroots development and inclusive governance had continued to inspire confidence among the people.

According to him, the birthday anniversary provides an opportunity for the people of the state to celebrate a leader whose resilience and innovative approach to governance are yielding positive results across critical sectors.

Ndarani commended the governor’s initiatives in mechanised farming, land reforms, infrastructure expansion, education revitalisation and security enhancement.

He described the initiatives as strategic steps toward building a modern, economically viable and self-reliant state.

“Your dedication to transforming Niger State into a hub of agricultural excellence and industrial development is admirable and inspiring.

“Your leadership reflects foresight, inclusivity and an unwavering commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people,” he said.

Hukunchi Nupe also prayed for God’s continued guidance, wisdom and sound health for the governor as he steers the affairs of the state.

He reaffirmed his support for policies and programmes aimed at promoting unity, progress and prosperity in the state, and urged residents to sustain their support for the administration.

The senatorial aspirant wished the governor a joyful birthday celebration and many more years of service to the state and the nation.

  • OmoBarca offers free daily fast-breaking meals to Christians and Muslims as Ramadan and Lent begin

OmoBarca offers free daily fast-breaking meals to Christians and Muslims as Ramadan and Lent begin

As Muslims and Christians across the world commenced Ramadan and Lent on the same day February 18, 2026, a unique gesture of interfaith unity is unfolding in Ajeromi Ifelodun Constituency of Lagos State.

Hon. Francis Barthlomew Omowale Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, has opened his home to both Muslim and Christian faithful to break their fast together daily throughout the fasting season. This is a symbolic act aimed at promoting peace, love, and religious harmony in one of Lagos’ most vibrant communities.

Since 2015, OmoBarca has consistently organized free daily iftar meals for Muslim faithful during Ramadan in Ajeromi Ifelodun. What began as a modest outreach has grown into a well-recognized annual intervention that supports hundreds of families during the holy month.

Under the initiative themed “Break Your Fast With Us,” Muslim residents gather each evening to share meals provided at no cost, easing the burden of daily feeding during the fasting period.

The 2026 edition continues that tradition, with daily Ramadan and Lenten break-fast sessions scheduled as follows:

Venue: 79 MBA Street, Oregie, Ajegunle (OmoBarca House)
    Time: 6:00 PM daily
Date: Wednesday, February 18, 2026, until the end of the fasting period

The invitation is open to all, with organizers emphasizing inclusivity and community bonding.

Beyond daily Ramadan feeding, OmoBarca’s philanthropy toward the Muslim community extends even further. Since 2015, he has sponsored Muslim faithfuls from the constituency to perform the holy pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia — one of Islam’s most sacred obligations.

Over the years, beneficiaries have described the sponsorship as life-changing, noting that the financial demands of Hajj make it inaccessible to many low-income families. His continued sponsorship has positioned him as one of the few Christian political figures in the area to consistently support Islamic religious obligations.

“I celebrate every religion Islam, Christianity, and traditional faiths. I support all and do what God gives me the power to do. During Ramadan, I slaughter one cow each day for 30 days so people can eat. From 2015 to 2025, I’ve sponsored between eight and seventeen people each year to Hajj.” OmoBarca says.

Despite his extensive support for Muslim causes, OmoBarca is himself a devout Christian. However, associates and community leaders describe him as a strong advocate for peaceful coexistence between Christianity and Islam.

His philosophy, according to close aides, is rooted in the belief that religion should unite rather than divide communities.

This year’s overlap of Ramadan and Lent, both sacred seasons marked by fasting, prayer, repentance, and charity presented what he calls a “divine opportunity” to deepen interfaith bonds.

“Fasting is about sacrifice, reflection, and love,” a member of his organizing committee said. “What better way to demonstrate that love than to bring both faiths together at one table?”

The coincidence of Ramadan and Lent beginning on the same day is relatively rare, given that the Islamic calendar is lunar while the Christian liturgical calendar follows a different system. The 2026 alignment has therefore been widely seen as symbolically significant.

By inviting both Muslim and Christian faithfuls to break their fast together daily at his residence, OmoBarca is sending a message that transcends politics. It is centered on unity, tolerance, and shared humanity.

Though a political figure, OmoBarca’s Ramadan and Hajj initiatives have often been framed as humanitarian rather than partisan efforts. Supporters argue that his sustained commitment since 2011 demonstrates consistency rather than seasonal generosity.

As the fasting season progresses, his home at 79 MBA Street is expected to become a daily hub of prayer, reflection, and fellowship.

In a constituency as diverse as Ajeromi Ifelodun, where Muslims and Christians live side by side, the gesture carries symbolic weight. At a time when religious divisions occasionally dominate national discourse, this local initiative highlights a different narrative of collaboration and shared values.

As Ramadan and Lent unfold simultaneously this year, Hon. Francis Barthlomew Omowale Chima, aka OmoBarca, is using the moment to reinforce a simple but powerful message: faith, when expressed through love and generosity, can unite communities.

    By Mohammed Baba Busu

The Mohammed Ndarani Humanitarian Foundation, through its Women Wing, has donated N100 million to sponsor the education of indigent students across the Niger South Senatorial Zone.

The scholarship intervention targets students whose parents are financially disadvantaged and currently studying in various institutions of higher learning as part of deliberate efforts to expand access to education and reduce the burden on vulnerable families.

Beneficiaries of the educational support were selected from Bida, Lavun, Edati, Mokwa, Agaie, Lapai, Katcha and Gbako Local Government Areas of the state, ensuring equitable spread across the senatorial zone.

The cheque was formally presented to members of the Steering Committee of Women in Politics and Inclusive Governance, under the exemplary leadership of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, by Alhaji Mohammed Ndarani SAN, during a ceremony held on Saturday in Bida.

Speaking after the presentation, the Founder of the foundation and renowned legal luminary, Alhaji Mohammed Ndarani, SAN, Hukunchi Nupe and Hausaland, said the initiative was part of his personal and collective contribution to reposition education as a catalyst for sustainable development.

Ndarani explained that education remained the most effective tool for lifting communities out of poverty, stressing that no society can attain meaningful progress without deliberate investment in human capital development.

He explained that the scholarship scheme was designed to support students from underprivileged backgrounds who possess the determination and capacity to succeed academically but are constrained by economic hardship.

According to him, the foundation deliberately focused on tertiary education because of its multiplier effect on families, communities and the wider society, adding that empowering one student has the potential to uplift generations.

Ndarani further stated that the initiative aligns with his lifelong belief that leadership must be anchored on service, compassion and inclusiveness, especially towards women and young people who constitute the backbone of future leadership.

He emphasised that philanthropy should not be about publicity, but about creating opportunities, restoring hope and giving people the platform to realise their God-given potential.

The learned silk stressed that the foundation was established to contribute to societal growth through humanitarian efforts.

“I’m so delighted to see that all the students who benefited from the founation’s scholarship scheme were overwhelmed and in addition this foundation have been sponsoring JAMB, paying for WAEC for some students across Zone A and across Niger, and as well been drilling boreholes for many communities. So this foundation is deeply on ground for service to humanity,” Ndarani stated.

The legal icon reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the scholarship programme and called on other well-meaning Nigerians to complement government efforts by investing in education as a shared national responsibility.

The Coordinator, President General of CAGRAT and National Chairman, Nupe Development Forum (Nupe-Defo), Engr. Muhammadu Dagaci, stressed that credible leadership and good governance can only be achieved when citizens actively participate in building consensus and working collectively towards shared goals.

Dagachi, who is also the Zarumi Agaie, described the intervention as a generational contribution by a philanthropist who truly understood the plight of the poor.

He explained that the scholarship was carefully targeted at students from economically disadvantaged families, noting that due diligence was conducted to ensure only deserving beneficiaries were selected.

The CAGRAT National President said the selection process was conducted with transparency and sensitivity, bearing in mind the prevailing economic difficulties in the country, describing the exercise as largely successful.

He disclosed that each beneficiary would receive the N100,000, with funds distributed evenly across the local government areas within the senatorial district.

According to him, the foundation adopted a bank-to-bank electronic transfer system, ensuring that funds are paid directly into individual students’ accounts, thereby eliminating intermediaries and guaranteeing accountability.

Dagachi commended the efficiency and effectiveness of the process, stating that it reflects the founder’s commitment to integrity and proper stewardship of resources.

He described the scholarship scheme as a deliberate effort at legacy building.

The coordinator stressed that legacy outlives individuals, adding that investing in education remains the most enduring form of legacy because it facilitates generational succession, knowledge transfer and professional continuity.

He lamented that the lack of commitment to legacy building and mentorship by many privileged individuals has contributed to global socio-economic crises, urging leaders and philanthropists to consciously support initiatives that secure the future of the next generation.

Dagachi commended Ndarani for his foresight in assisting the less privileged in the society, while appealing to the people of the zone to support Ndarani’s senatorial ambition for the zone to move forward.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the Event Steering Committee, Barr. Maryam Mohammed-Ndarani, stated that her husband is committed to the welfare of the people, particularly the less privileged in the society.

As part of the registration process, all successful foreign-trained nurses are required to undergo formal induction, similar to their counterparts trained in Nigeria.

According to Ndagi, the council is unwaveringly committed to providing well-equipped nurses and midwives who can deliver high -quality nursing care at all levels of the country’s healthcare system and beyond.

The registrar appealed to the newly inducted nurses to prioritise the interests of Nigerians and willingly serve the country.

He said that this was more imperative especially in areas with significant healthcare needs such as hard-to-reach communities.

Ndagi further encouraged them to be exemplary ambassadors of the nursing profession in the discharge of their arduous responsibilities.

The registrar also urged, “Demonstrate humility, discipline and respect in your interactions with the public.

“Let kindness and compassion guide your care for all patients.

Ganduje expressed optimism that ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration would further strengthen the health sector and encourage professionals to remain in the country.

“To now finish the internship and decide to go back to where they were coming from after the government has spent some investment on them? I assure you it will be a different story because the reforms undertaken by the present government will turn the tide,” he said.

According to him, improvements in health service delivery were already influencing the decision of many Nigerians trained abroad to return and practise locally.

“I think it is a welcome development because when we have our own children studying abroad and then coming back and joining the service, that is very encouraging,”

Other speakers at the event advised the inductees, who will proceed on a one-year internship followed by the National Youth Service, to take their training seriously, uphold confidentiality, and adapt to the evolving needs of patients.

Niger South Senatorial District: Time for Ndarani (SAN) to answer the clarion call

    By Mohammed Baba Busu

A popular Latin adage says – Vox populi, vox Dei, that is “The voice of the people is the voice of God”.

Indeed, these are not the best of times for one of Nigeria’s finest legal icons – Muhammed Ndarani Mohammed (SAN), the Hukunchi Nupe and Hukunchi Kasan Hausa, popularly known as Ndarani (SAN).

This is because of the intense pressure and calls from various associations, groups, individuals, associates and many residents of Niger state, particular those in local governments that constitute the Niger South Senatorial district (Zone A), for him to declare his intention to join the senatorial race come 2027.

The pressure is getting intense as each day passes by. These calls and pressure for Ndarani to indicate interest in joining the Niger South senatorial race did not take many residents of the state by surprise.

This is because over the years, Ndarani, a learned silk has demonstrated immense care and love for Niger state in general and residents of his senatorial district in particular. No one can dispute the organic love Ndarani has for his people. He has been showing up and standing with them in times of need and distress.

The current pressure being mounted on Ndarani (SAN) brings to mind the saying that: “The good you put out into the world… never goes unnoticed by the universe. It might return to you through an unexpected opportunity, a helping hand when you least expect it, or simply a sense of peace and fulfillment.” Indeed, the good deeds of Ndarani to residents of Niger state over the years, is returning back to him.

Apart from the calls by individuals and other critical stakeholders, recently, two prominent groups joined in increasing the pressure on the legal icon, appealing him to consider joining the senatorial race. In fact, critical stakeholders have begun meetings and strategising to ensure the victory of Ndarani come 2027.

Recently, two groups – the Supreme Support for Good Governance (SSG-3) Niger South, and the Ndarani Advocacy Movement (NAM), presented letters requesting him to contest the Niger South (Zone ‘A’) senatorial seat.

In their letter, the Ndarani Advocacy Movement (NAM) said: “We are here today because we believe you are the most qualified to represent Niger South in the Senate.

“Sir, we have done our research on your life’s journey, your remarkable record of academic excellence and professional achievements as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has convinced us to support your aspiration for Senate.

“Your personal attributes – humility, empathy, philanthropy and exceptional communication skills, makes you a unifying force to drive meaningful progress in our district.

“We need your vision, passion and expertise in the senate to elevate Niger South Senatorial District to new heights.“

On the other hand, the Supreme Support for Good Governance (SSG-3) Niger South, made similar call in their separate letter titled: ‘Letter of request to contest for senatorial position (Zone A).’ Part of the letter reads: “Your philanthropic efforts, grassroot presence and public popularity have made you the preferred choice among youths from the eight local governments in the zone. Your leadership is seen as a beacon of hope for improved political leadership and representation.

“We recognise your commitment to serving the community and the nation through different fora and we believe your grassroot engagements, experience, expertise and international engagement will be invaluable in the Senate. Our goal is to offer, publicly present, support your candidacy and work collectively towards its actualisation for a brighter future of our communities and Nigeria at large.

“For avoidance of doubt, the Niger Coalition of youth groups will be responsible for the purchase of the necessary forms for your proposed candidacy. This is in the spirit of people-driven candidacy and representation needed to ensure transparency and accountability.”

This is apart from many other groups that are already meeting and strategising on how to woo residents of the senatorial district to massively join in supporting the Ndarani candidacy.

Only few days ago, stakeholders under the umbrella of “Critical Stakeholders/Enablers for the NDARANI Senatorial Candidacy Project”, held a crucial meeting in Minna. The meeting was, as usual, aimed at formalising strategies to ensure the success of the he Ndarani (SAN) senatorial project.

Critical stakeholders and enablers have mapped out strategies for the senatorial success of Mohammed Ndarani, SAN, in Niger South.

The stakeholders Critical Stakeholders/Enablers maiden Meeting for the NDARANI, SAN Senatorial Candidacy Project took place in Minna, the state capital on Thursday to formalize their strategies.

The meeting attracted key political actors, grassroots leaders and stakeholders from across Niger South Senatorial District (Zone A).

The Convener of the meeting, President General of CAGRAT and National Chairman Nupe Development Forum(Nupe-Defo) Engr. Muhammadu Dagaci, Zarumi Agaie, stressed that credible leadership and good governance can only be achieved when citizens actively participate in building consensus and working collectively towards shared goals.

“Representative democracy is for the people, and it is time we took ownership of it,” Dagaci said.

“We must be more participatory, more duty-conscious, and protect our rights and freedom as guaranteed by our laws.”

He urged participants to work together to ensure credible elections, accountable leadership and governance that prioritises development and the happiness of the people, warning that “self-imposed candidates have plagued our democracy for too long, and it is time to put an end to it”.

The president general reminded the audience that leadership is generational and that succession planning remains central to sustainable development.

“One generation does not rule forever; we must work together to build a better future for ourselves and generations yet unborn,” he stated.

The Coordinator, Supreme Support for Good Governance (SSG-3) / Niger South Youth Coalition Political Movement, Muhammed Mahmud Etsu explained that the movement is anchored on the principles of inclusive governance, transparency, accountability and effective representation, noting that Ndarani’s antecedents in public service, legal advocacy and community development resonate strongly with their vision for Niger South.

He stressed that the coalition is prepared to work with other stakeholders to build a broad-based political consensus capable of delivering victory at the polls, while fostering unity and peaceful political engagement across the zone.

They noted that Ndarani’s vision and mission, coupled with his track record of achievements, positioned him as a credible candidate capable of taking the zone to greater heights.

Several speakers, who admitted they had not met him personally, said they had consistently heard of his immense contributions to the development of Nupe land, describing them as commendable and a clear indication that, if given the mandate, the zone would enjoy effective and people-oriented representation.

Ndarani was described at the meeting as an international senior lawyer and renowned human rights activist, widely respected for his humility and commitment to the welfare of ordinary people.

The meeting ended with a renewed resolve by the stakeholders to deepen consultations and grassroots mobilisation in support of the senatorial project of Ndarani.

Indeed, at this point, Ndarani (SAN) has no option than to succumb to the pressure which is coming from different groups, associations, civil society organisations and individuals. He must accept it, because this is no more mere men that are speaking, it is God. Therefore, Ndarani must treat the barrage of calls with a sense of urgency, because “the voice of the people is the voice of God”.

Ndarani (SAN) must take these clarion calls seriously, because over the years, he has shown love to the people and the people have decided that it is time for them to pay him back. It is a well known fact that when you wish good for others, good things return to you with great measure of love. This is the law of nature. He should also know that kindness, good deeds and positive intensions create a ripple effect bringing blessings back in unexpected ways.

Some of the things that endeared Ndarani (SAN) and triggered his love in the hearts of the residents of Niger State is his continued determination to introduce youth-friendly initiatives and programmes aimed at improving unity and oneness among youths of the state. One of such initiatives is the introduction of a football competition among youths of remote areas where fourteen teams participated.

This, according to many residents of the areas, will not only improve peace building but will also assist in unraveling the hidden football talents of the state. Some of which in the near future can be shining stars in both local and international football teams, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

To show the seriousness and importance of the football match, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar; Shaba Nupe, Alhaji Manko Yilata, district heads; village heads; Imams; Prof. Tanko Suleiman, Vice-Chancellor, Edu Soko University, Bida; among others, attended the final match.

Another reason that made Ndarani (SAN) to enjoy such magnitude of love and support from people of Niger state is his ability to patiently and tenaciously follow up and secure compensation on the case between the Federal Ministry of Power and Samboro community over the devastating damages that affected the community as a result of the construction of the Zungeru Hydro Dam.

It would be recalled that sometimes in April 2023, the village head of Samboro community, Malam Usman, and 2,844 other members of the community approached the court through their Counsel, Muhammed Ndarani Mohammed (SAN), in case number NSHC/ KUT/6/2023 demanding compensation.

The doggedness and ingenuity of the Ndarani (SAN)-led legal team led to the award of over one trillion Naira compensation to the affected communities by the court.

This, indeed, was seen by residents of Niger state as a demonstration of care and love for the people considering that the Ndarani legal team handled the case pro-bono.

Also, in his usual characteristics of demonstrating care and love to residents of Niger State, Ndarani (SAN) visited the victims of the May 2025 Mokwa flood disaster.

It would be recalled that the massive flood disaster which was caused by a heavy rainfall submerged a considerable part of Mokwa town in Niger State causing severe damage.

During the visit, Ndarani (SAN) donated N30 million to the victims. This, many described as the highest donation from a single individual. According to them, this indicated the depth of love the legal icon has for his people.

Also, in 2025, in a deliberate effort to develop the Nupe language, Ndarani sponsored 10 students to study Nupe Language at the university level.

The scholarship programme took effect after the commencement of the Nupe Language degree programme approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2025.

The legal icon disclosed that he has kept aside millions of Naira to fund the scholarship of the beneficiaries from 100 to 400 level.

“We are fully prepared to support and formally unveil the Nupe Language degree programme once it begins.

“We will also invite our associates and well-meaning individuals to support by sponsoring more students. By the grace of God, we intend to create opportunities for outstanding graduates to participate in international exchange programmes after graduation,” Ndarani said.

Besides, Ndarani (SAN) has provided succour and interventions in several communities in the areas of healthcare, water supply, electricity, rural road networks, agricultural inputs and entrepreneurship, among others.

There is no doubt, Ndarani (SAN) gave the first shot of demonstration of love to his people. They are now paying him back by saying with a loud voice “come and represent us in the Senate”. This call, Ndarani (SAN) must respond positively.
