In her welcome address, Dr Bola Oyeledun,Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of CIHP,said that the S.H.E training was designed for girls between the ages of 16 and 24.
Oyeledun said that a total of 180 young girls have been trained in the last one year.
She said that the beneficiaries were selected from the National Vulnerability Index register obtained from the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Youth Development.
She explained that using the provided index, the prospective beneficiaries were placed on a scale of vulnerability to determine their qualifications for the training.
“The training is really focused on very vulnerable girls, who otherwise would not have any access to such in the society.
“We used the index to make sure that we are reaching the most vulnerable people in the society,” she said.
According to her, the S.H.E has been able to boost the interest and inclination of the girls for STEM courses.
She said that it had also transformed their total being and focus in life, due to the intensive training they were exposed to.
The CIHP boss said that the present harsh economic conditions in the country propelled the sponsorship of the training by the US CDC.
“Many people were living below poverty level and needed help, especially the young vulnerable children, to prevent exposing them to social vices, sexually transmitted diseases, infections, and unwanted pregnancies.
“Our aim is to lift the girls out of such background, boost their self-esteem, and place them on a level playing field with their privileged counterparts.
“We ensured that the beneficiaries got online certifications, right accreditation to get their work done, as well as placement for internships and link-up with mentors”,she said.
Following the need for expansion and increase in the number of beneficiaries, Oyeledun said that a S.H.E Hub centre has been established at Obalende-Ikoyi axis with support from the United States Government.
She said that the Obalende centre would cater for girls living in that environment, while also complementing the Ikeja centre.
She said that across the world, girls were progressively left more behind in STEM and traditionally placed for social jobs like hairdressing, make-up, and baking.
She charged the graduands to improve on the knowledge and skills they had acquired at the S.H.E hub.
She urged them to forge ahead with determination, focus and passion to impact the world positively and be a better version of themselves.
A board member of CIHP, Mr Emmanuel Eneh, congratulated the graduands and charged them to make use of the skills acquired.
Eneh also advised them to take advantage of the opportunities in the Information and Technology industry.
Also,Senior Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Eniola Opeyemi, lauded CIHP for organising such a transformative training, and supporting the girl child.
Opeyemi said that the programme aligned with the “THEME PLUS” agenda of Gov.Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He urged other sister organisations to follow suit, in order to support and complement the state government’s effort.
A beneficiary, Miss Oluwatunmininu Ogini, appreciated CIHP and the US CDC for the lifetime opportunity given to her through the training to bring out her inner and hidden potentials.
Ogini said that the mental health training she embarked on helped her to balance her mental health, while the life skill class helped her to become assertive.
She said that the financial literature class taught her how to save and do proper budgeting, while the coding class helped her to create a cat website due to her love for cats.
A parent, Mrs Taiwo Wellington, thanked CIHP for considering the vulnerable children for the training.
Wellington said that the skills her daughter acquired during the training gave her hope for a better future(NAN)

It demonstrates how Yoruba culture is still having an impact on musicians, artists, and creative thinkers today.

The centre’s architecture draws inspiration from traditional Yoruba craftsmanship and architecture, using visual metaphors to express the language and culture’s deep artistic and philosophical roots.

The fractal-like building form, which rises from the ground and leans forward (O tesiwaju) to depict the Yoruba people’s progressive nature, responds to its environment.

“The John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History is open already, creatives are coming to display their wares. We have had fashion shows, art exhibitions there.

“I am using this opportunity to let the young ones out there know that the centre is open for all,” she said.

Speaking on the essence of the tour, Benson-Awoyinka said it was to expose the tourism and historical offerings in the state to the world for improved patronage.

She said the move was also to spur the interest of Nigerians to tell more of the state’s history and its tourism assests.

“Lagos is a huge space with so much history and heritage, the untold story of Lagos must be relayed. That is the reason I am with these dignitaries here, to show the world the tourism potential in Lagos.

“This is to enable us tell our story the way it should be told. It is also to show our children that there is so much embedded in Lagos, there is so much to look out for rather than going out of our shores for leisure.

“Lagos is all about live, work and play. That is what we are showcasing.
“So, Lagos is open for business, open to promoting tourism, and to showcase our heritage in culture and arts.

“We promise to create that enabling environment for tourism businesses to thrive. We want the young ones to key into the sector, we have a demography of very young individuals who are waiting for opportunities,” she said.

Earlier, Mr Abubakar Suleiman, Managing Director, Sterling Bank, expressed readiness to work with the management of the NCMM to preserve the nation’s treasured history and arts.

“Arts and culture provide lots of opportunity for job creation, to position Lagos and Nigeria in the right light and that is what we are about to do.

“As we get along, we are looking forward to being able to put funds across to those who can groom tourism, invest in hospitality, hotels and transport.

“We are also ready to work with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments to see that we can preserve it in a way that it won’t just be for our enjoyment but for the future generations,” he said.

Issa-Onilu said that the drive would focus on registering children aged zero to five years and would provide every registered child with free National Identification Number(NIN).

“During this drive, every registered child will receive NIN upon face capturing and bith registration.

“We encourage parents and guidance to visit the nearest NPC registration centre to register their children.

“The process is simple, free and requires only supporting documents like immunisation card or existing birth certificate,” the D-G said.

He further said that birth registration was a fundamental right of every child, adding that the initiative is significant to the child, family, community and the nation.

“It is the first legal acknowledgement of a child’s existence, safeguarding their rights and privileges and unlocking access to basic services crucial for their development and future.

“Accurate bith registration is vital for national planning and development, providing essential data for education, health care and public services.

“By registering a child’s birth, families will ensure recognition by the state, protecting them from abuse, exploitation and statelessness,” he said.

He urged parents, guardians and community leaders to take advantage of the excercise and give every Nigerian child access to essential services and a best start in life.

Mr Innocent Mishikir, Director, Civic Registration and Vital Statistics, NPC Yola, said that the commission, with support from UNICEF, rolled out the e-birth registration drive in 2024.

Ajayi, while speaking during a news conference in Lagos, said that the carnival slated to hold in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti capital, would attract tourists from across the globe.

“The carnival will feature two key events: Omoge Iyan Pageant, which is a celebration of African women and their cultural heritage.

“The pageantry will showcase contestants who exemplify the rich traditions of their regions.

“The event will also witness Iyan challenge, a competition for African men to demonstrate their expertise in the complete process of Iyan production, from cultivating yams to creating the dish.

“Various groups, individuals, youths and communities across Africa and Africans in diaspora all over the world are eligible to participate by registration, which will commence from September.

He explained that these finalists would also be featured in the epic documentary series that would form the second pillar of the initiative.

He said the documentary, which would premiere at the National Arts Theater in 2025, would showcase the history, tradition, and culinary art behind this ancestral dish.

According to him, the movement will also witness the cultivation of 50 million tubers of yam.
