Mr Omar Suleiman, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa, has reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful, issue-based politics and respect for the rule of law.

Suleiman stated this in a statement titled “I Come in Peace”, issued by the Director-General, Omarana Campaign Organisation, Mr Mark Wosi, on Monday in Yola.

Reacting to a recent court judgment over unauthorised pasting of campaign posters on public structures, Suleiman said his campaign accepted the decision in respect of lawful institutions and democratic accountability.

He maintained that he neither authorised nor encouraged the unlawful acts, but said compliance with the judgment demonstrated responsible leadership.

According to him, the incident should serve as a lesson to campaign members on the importance of discipline, respect for public property and adherence to the law.

Suleiman called for greater attention to environmental protection, saying concerns should extend beyond campaign posters to issues such as indiscriminate waste disposal, blocked drainage channels and poor sanitation.

He pledged that, if elected, his administration would prioritise modern waste management through recycling, waste-to-energy projects and organic fertiliser production.

The ADC candidate said the initiatives would create jobs while promoting environmental sustainability across the state.

He added that his administration would draw lessons from successful environmental models, including programmes of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), to encourage public-private partnerships in waste management.

Suleiman appealed to supporters and other political actors to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electioneering period and avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace.

He said his campaign would remain focused on policies aimed at improving job creation, education, healthcare, agriculture, security, infrastructure, technology and environmental protection.

The governorship candidate, assured residents that his campaign would continue to uphold civility, dignity and peaceful engagement as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum.

He thanked ADC members, support groups, volunteers and residents of the state for supporting his vision of “Adamawa That Works – For Today, For Tomorrow.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that recently the Adamawa State Government instituted a criminal charge against Suleiman over campaign poster defacement, following a N3 million fine judgement delivered by a Chief Magistrate Court in Yola.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng).
