A report by The Daily Letter has it that President Donald Trump ordered US military strikes in Nigeria, framing the action as a mission to defend persecuted Christians abroad, a far deadlier crisis has continued largely unchecked at home — one measured not in rhetoric, but in bodies.

According to the report, 160 shooting within a space of 72 hours across the United States has left no fewer than 60 persons dead.

According to a nonpartisan review of the latest data from the Gun Violence Archive, 160 separate shootings were recorded across the United States in the past 72 hours alone, leaving 60 people dead and 123 others injured.

The data was analysed by The Daily Letter.

The Eagle Online recalls that a joint operation by the US Africa Command and the Nigerian military was carried out on Christmas Day in the United States, but in the early hours of Boxing Day in Nigeria.

The operation focused on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Nigeria.

They are known as the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The operation focused on Sokoto State.

However, as at press time, the impact of the operation has yet to be made public.
