Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said the task of probing the State Commander of Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Omoyele, has been handed over to a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Wale Abbas.
Abbas, currently serving as the chairman of the Amotekun Board, Adeleke said, has the duty to ensure a thorough investigation of the roles of Omoyele in the recent killing of three residents of Akinlalu town by the operatives of the Corps.
Adeleke, who stated this in Akinlalu on Monday during a condolence visit to the community, further assured the victims that justice would be served in the matter.
The governor also promised good healthcare for all those injured in the attack, adding that his priority was to ensure they return to good health.
Responding to a specific demand for the suspension of Omoyele over the killing by the Akinlalu Community, Adeleke said, “On the demand of the suspension of Omoyele you talked about, we are working on it. I have directed the Chairman of the Amotekun Board (Wale Abbas) to go to Abuja to ensure a thorough investigation.
“I have ensured that those who are in the hospital are well taken care of. The ventilators they requested for the victims are underway. Their care is my priority at this time. I thank the youths that they are steadfast and prioritising peace
“On the request for Omoyele’s suspension, the matter is ongoing. As I am talking to you, it has been handed over to the Amotekun Chairman, Wale Abass, for thorough investigation
Earlier, while speaking on behalf of the Akinlalu Community, the town’s Youth Leader, Musbau Adeboye, demanded Omoyele’s suspension and probe over the killing.
The PUNCH reports that Osun Amotekun has been in the news, albeit for negative reasons, since Tuesday, September 30, 2025, when its operatives invaded Akinlalu Community and shot some residents and killed three people..
The incident which led to public condemnation of the mode of operations of the Corps, also led several people to demand the arrest and prosecution of those operatives who perpetrated the act.
Osun State Police Command, in a report made available to our correspondent after the incident, listed Ibrahim Oyebamiji (m), 26 years, Sefiu Oyebamiji (m) and Abiola Olutayo (m), as those killed in the mayhem.
Those injured include Adeagbo Kadijat ‘f’ 22yrs, Oke-Ila Oyebamiji ‘f’ 60yrs and Fayomi Toheeb ‘m’ 19yrs.
The police also confirmed that Amotekun operatives took away the corpses of the deceased after the incident.
But the leadership of the Amotekun Corps in the state, though admitting to killing three people, said those killed had engaged its operatives in an exchange of gunfire
The Corps said its operatives were ambushed by hoodlums, who had gone to Akinlalu to retrieve two rifles forcibly taken away from its operatives.
A team deployed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, after taking over the investigation into the matter, arrested 5 operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
But the police said Omoyele has refused to honour its invitation to explain his role in the killings.
