  • Gov. Adeleke slams Oyebamiji’s Economic Blueprint, says It seeks to reverse current gains, impoverishes Osun people

Gov. Adeleke slams Oyebamiji’s Economic Blueprint, says It seeks to reverse current gains, impoverishes Osun people

GOVERNOR Ademola Adeleke has condemned the recently released economic blueprint of the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Muniru Bola Oyebamiji, describing it as “capital flight oriented, old school thinking and behind news of current socio-economic advances under Gov.  Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement issued in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke noted that a review of Oyebamiji’s economic plans confirms that his ideas are outdated, in conflict with progressive ideals he professes and a condemnable attempt to reverse the economic boom currently being enjoyed by Osun people, declaring that “Mr Oyebamiji by his own admission seeks to return Osun to the old era of capital flight to Lagos and suppressive tax regime to reimpose extreme poverty on Osun people.

“The Adeleke’s economic blueprint is focused on local content for citizens’ empowerment, grassroots and artisans’ financial inclusion, bridging infra deficit to fast track economic growth, widening tax base with reduced tax rates, integrated easing of business environment to attract investment, agro-industrialisation through revived economic and free trade zones, mining sector reforms to diversify state economy among others.

The current plan is people–based m in conception and people–focussed in implementation.

“The Adeleke economic plan currently being implemented has empowered grassroots economy through artisan and cooperative financing of almost N4 billion; enhanced local businesses through strict implementation of the local content policy in procurement and workforce management; reinvigorated Osun Digital Economy hub to tap into multi-billion dollar global industry; increased Internally generated revenue through tax harmonization and digitisation; relaunched industrialisation through revival of Osun free trade zones; reduced state debt stock through sustainable debt management; revived agro – mechanisation and cocoa revolution; re – engineered partnership for growth with Osun businesses through Osun State Chamber of Commerce; and deepen investment drive through strong public private partnership among others.

“Mr Oyebamiji’s plan is imbecilic and deficient in depth and orientation. It regurgitated and copied policies already under implementation by the current government in the area of tax reforms, industrialisation, revenue digitisation and management, innovative investment drive, public private partnership, agro – industrial revolution. The AMBO plan is a recipe for economic retrogression, disempowerment of the local economy through abandonment of vital local content policy, reversal of current policy of Osun money serving Osun economy and residents.

“Osun economy is already on a sustainable growth trajectory. Power generation, transmission and distribution is critical to economic growth and development. Governor Adeleke has already signed into law the state electricity bill to regulate generation and distribution of electricity. An implementation process is underway. Mr Oyebamiji has no clue in such an arena. The digital economy is a global multi- billion dollar industry. Governor Adeleke has primed Osun as a digital hub to tap into the sector through a series of ICT and digital legislation now under implementation. Again, Oyebamiji is oblivious of this new global trend.

“It is particularly shocking and insulting to Osun people to read of the fresh intention by Oyebamiji to tie Osun economy to Lagos through capital flight of the old. While South West inter-state collaboration under Oodua framework is already ongoing, the idea of Lagos corridor from Oyebamiji is a direct intention to kill Osun local content policy, destroy the drive to grow Osun economy on a sustainable agro-industrial platform and put an end to the successful push to grow Osun prosperity through digital economy.

“The height of deficiency in the AMBO plan is the ludicrous mention of the blue economy strategy. We assert that as the head of the national waterway agency, Oyebamiji failed to stop waterway deaths which stood at almost 1000 by the time he left office. He failed to introduce or implement a modern waterways transport system despite an abundance of functioning systems that can be adapted. The Lagos Waterways Authority has an impressive record than what we had under AMBO leadership of NIWA.

“It is apt to note that under Governor Adeleke, the Owala Lake beach resort is functioning under PPP arrangements after decades of abandonment by governments under which Oyebamiji was a key player. Similar internal lakes at Modakeke and others are being projected for similar revival while key tourist sites are witnessing upgrades and modernisation under PPP model. Osun does not need sordid records at NIWA in Osun state.

“Like that popular song, Osun can never go back; Osun has gone too far in economic liberation, prosperity and sustainability; It is already too late for Osun to retrogress; it won’t make sense for Osun to go back to the era of corporate slavery enforced by some corporate hawks masquerading as people – loving politicians”, the statement added.

Onanuga: Why Tinubu lost balance in Turkey

Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, says President Bola Tinubu lost balance in Turkey because he stepped on a metal object.

Onanuga said this while addressing enquiries on Tuesday regarding the President’s well-being in Ankara.

Daily Trust had reported how Tinubu missed his step briefly and fell in Ankara, capital of Turkey, on Tuesday.

The Nigerian leader was walking alongside his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Erdogan, when the incident happened.

Earlier, Tinubu had inspected a parade as part of the massive reception he received.

A review of the video of the incident showed that the president went down after a camera man moved his tripod stand close to him.

But Onanuga said the President merely stepped on an object, resulting in a minor loss of balance.

“The President stepped on a metal on the floor, which made him lose his balance,” Onanuga said.

“This is not a big deal, except for those who want to make mischief out of a fleeting incident. It was a mere stumble, thank God, not a fall,” he added.

  • Witness testifies in lawyer, others’ trial for alleged defamatory comments against senator

SP Michael Kalu, the 1st prosecution witness (PW-1) in the trial of an Abuja-based lawyer and four social media influencers accused of defaming Sen. Shehu Umar, on Tuesday, gave his testimony.

Kalu, a police investigator serving with the National Cybercrime Centre (NCC) of the Nigerian Police Force, Abuja, gave his evidence before Justice Rita Offili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The witness, who was led in evidence-in-chief by Abueh Leyii, counsel for the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), chronicled how his office was able to track the defendabts following a petition by the senator.

He said his department received a petition from Sen. Umar, the current Chairman, Senate Committee on Livestock and Animal Husbandry, on criminal conspiracy, cyberbullying and criminal defamation of his character by the defendants.

“I was able to reach out to the senator who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District.

“I called him to come and adopt his petition being our tradition and to explain more about what transpired,” he said.

The PW-1 said the lawmaker told him how the syndicates accused him of sponsoring bandits through financial support and procurement of motorcycles for them.

He said Umar told him that the defendants also alleged that he masterminded the disappearance of his own aide and that all the allegations were carried out through the internet space.

“We profiled the social media handles used to identify the persons of interest,” he said.

Kalu said during investigation in conjunction with a network provider and other agencies of government, they were able to get the phone number used for the Tiktok handle with user name “Kibanna Channel” and his Youtube channel.

The witness said their investigation finally revealed Ahmed Abdulrahman, who is also a lawyer, as the owner of the phone number.

He said Abdulrahman was traced to Kano State where he eventually reported in their office.

According to him, Abdulrahman identified the phone number and the social media handles as his own.

The witness also told the court how the other four co-defendants were tracked by the police.

He said since the message was sent through the cyberspace, the reactions that followed caused a damage to the reputation of the lawyer.

And after the defence lawyers, including Abdul Mohammed, SAN; Hamza Danttani, Afix Matanmi and A.A. Badmus crossed-examined the witness, Justice Offili-Ajumogobia adjourned the matter until Feb. 9, 10 and 11 for continuation of trial.

The AGF and Minister of Justice, Mr Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had, in December 2025, taken over the prosecution of the matter from the Inspector General (I-G) of Police.

Abdulrahman (1st defendant) and his co-defendants were initially being prosecuted by the I-G.

The I-G, in the 11-count charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/526/2025 and filed by Anthony Egwu on Oct. 6, 2025, named Daure David, Ishaq Muhammed, Abdulrashid Musa and Nasir Abubakar as 2nd to 5th defendants respectively.

The defendants were, on Oct. 30, 2025, arraigned on 11-count charge which also bordered on alleged cybercrime, defamation, advance fee fraud, among others.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the counts and their counsel filed applications for their bail.

Justice Offili-Ajumogobia had, on Nov. 24, 2025, admitted Adbulrahman to a N50 million bail with two sureties in the like sum.

Also in three separate rulings on bail applications for the co-defendants, the judge admitted them to bail in the sum of N1 million each and one surety each in the like sum.

The sureties, the judge said must be a grade level 12 officer in the employment of the Federal Government.

In count one, the defendants were alleged to have, sometime in 2025, conspired among themselves “to commit an offence, to wit; cyberstalking against Senator Shehu Buba Umar.”

The offence is said to be contrary to Section 27(1)(b) and punishable under Section 21(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc.) Act 2015 (as amended) 2024.

In count three, Abdulrahman was alleged to have, sometime in 2025, intentionally sent a video via his Tiktok handle with user name “Kibanna Channel” and his Youtube channel to defame the lawmaker by linking him to sponsorship of banditry with a view to tarnishing his image as a serving Senator.

The suspect was alleged to have stated that “Senator Umar, a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a sponsor of banditry and called for his investigation, a statement you made by means of computer systems and network knowing same to be false, for the purpose of causing breakdown of law and order and causing the Senator fear of death”.

The offence Is also said to be contrary to Section 24(1)(5) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act 2015 (as amended) 2024, among other counts, among others.

CBN upgrades Opay, Moniepoint, Palmpay, others to national licenses

    Tue,

THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has upgraded the licenses of major FinTech companies and Microfinance Banks, including Opay and Moniepoint, to national status, allowing them to operate across the country following compliance with regulatory requirements.

The upgrade applies to key players such as Moniepoint MFB, Opay, Kuda Bank, Palmpay, and Paga, which have grown rapidly through mobile technology and agent networks, effectively outgrowing their previous regional licenses.

Director of the Other Financial Institutions Supervision Department, Yemi Solaja, confirmed this development in Lagos at the annual conference of the Committee of Heads of Banks’ Operations,
He said: “Institutions like Moniepoint MFB, Opay, Kuda Bank, and others have now been upgraded. In practice, their operations are already nationwide.”

Solaja emphasized the importance of physical presence for customer support, noting “Most of their customers operate in the informal sector. They need a clear point of contact if any issues arise.”

With national licenses, these FinTechs are subject to higher capital requirements, for example, N5 billion for national MFBs, and must maintain offices for dispute resolution while continuing to drive financial inclusion.

The reform follows previous enforcement actions, including 2024 penalties of N1 billion each on Moniepoint and Opay for KYC non-compliance, underscoring the CBN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen standards in digital finance.

Prof. Ugwu vows re-election of Mbah, engages in aggressive, massive APC membership drive

The Commissioner for Health in Enugu State, Prof. George Ùgwu, has vowed re-election of Gov. Peter Mbah as he embarks on aggressive and massive All Progressives Congress (APC) membership drive in Nsukka LGA.

Ugwu disclosed this on Tuesday while he flagged off E-Registration of APC Members in Obukpa ward in Nsukka LGA, which attracted hundreds of APC party faithful and residents of the area.

The commissioner said that Obukpa ward and the entire Nsukka had benefitted enormously from infrastructure development of Mbah’s administration, which included: Smart Schools, Primary Healthcare Centres, upcoming farm estates and roads.

According to him, today, our amiable governor has appointed an Obukpa son as Commissioner for Health Enugu State.

Ugwu also praised the priority Gov. Mbah had given to SUMAS Teaching Hospital in order to bring tertiary and affordable healthcare to the people of Enugu North Senatorial Zone.

He also emphasised E-registration’s role in strengthening APC’s base in Ọbụkpa ward, Nsukka, and Enugu State, rallying support for Gov. Mbah and APC ahead of 2027 General Elections.

“This E-Registration move links Enugu State to the centre for even more wins in infrastructure development from the national.

“Obukpa ward is ready to enroll and mobilise a large number of voters for APC. This is evident in the crowd gathered here today,” he said.

He assured Ọbụkpa people that Mbah’s re-election in 2027 remained certain, saying “4 + 4 is always 8” formula holds true; adding that the governor’s good works in just two years had set him up for a second term.

The event was a huge success as the commissioner, ward leaders, party members and residents registered for APC, showing their support and readiness to re-elect Gov. Mbah and other APC candidates in 2027 General Elections.

  • CHANGE NAMES OF SCHOOLS TAKEN OVER BY GOVERNMENT – MURIC

    ‎Motto: Dialogue, Not Violence

    ‎By Flowerbudnews

‎An Islamic human rights group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has opined that the names of schools taken over by the government should be changed to names that reflect public ownership.

‎In a statement issued on Monday, 26th January, 2026, the group contended that such a change would reduce, if it does not totally eliminate, the influence and entitlement posturing of religious organisations. The press release was signed by MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

    ‎It reads further:

‎”Baptist Primary School, Idikan, Ibadan in Oyo State was demolished by the Baptist Mission late in December 2026 (https://dailypost.ng/2025/12/31/residents-protest-demolition-of-primary-school-in-ibadan/).

‎”Although the action generated a huge controversy and parents held demonstrations, the Baptist group stuck to its gun. They insisted that the school belonged to them originally before it was taken over by government in 1975.

‎”MURIC sees the need to find a lasting solution to the recurrent controversy on school ownership, influence and ultimate control. The status quo is not immune from religious crisis as former owners continue to claim ownership and wield immense influence. It is our considered opinion that this is not the way to take over schools effectively.

‎”A permanent solution will come when the names of schools taken over by the government are changed to names that reflect public ownership. Such a change would reduce, if it does not totally eliminate, the influence and entitlement posturing of religious organisations. It will also douse tension in religious circles as well as debilitate the capacity for religious persecution in the education sector.

‎”We therefore urge various state governments who are still running and funding schools taken over long ago but which are still bearing nomenclatures of their former owners to summon the political will to take the final step that will ensure total takeover.

‎”It is the only logical line of action if the Idikan episode is to be avoided in future. Afterall those former school owners were all fully compensated and the schools are now being funded by government while renovations and additional infrastructural facilities have been added after the takeover. Former owners who still lay claim to such schools have eaten their cakes. They cannot have it. It amounts to fraud for religious groups to continue to lay claim to such schools.”

  • BREAKING: Military Names Officers in Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu Govt

The Nigerian military has confirmed that officers arrested over an alleged coup plot against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been identified and investigated.

Politics Nigeria reports that the Defence Headquarters said the probe into the matter has been completed.

The investigation covered sixteen military officers taken into custody in October 2025 for acts described as serious misconduct and violations of military rules.

In an official statement released on Monday, January 26, 2026, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, announced that the report of the investigation has now been submitted to the appropriate military authorities for further action.

The Armed Forces explained that the inquiry followed internal procedures and examined the conduct of the officers involved. It said some of them were linked to actions that went against the core values and professional obligations of the military.

According to the military, the findings pointed to attempts by certain officers to weaken constitutional authority and disrupt the chain of command within the Armed Forces.

    Part of the statement read:
“The comprehensive investigation process, conducted in accordance with established military procedures, has carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel. The findings have identified a number of the officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government which is inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the AFN,”

The Defence Headquarters added that officers with cases to answer will face trial before relevant military judicial bodies. These proceedings will be conducted under the Armed Forces Act and other existing service laws.

Military authorities stressed that discipline remains a key pillar of national security. They said the institution will not tolerate any act that threatens democracy or undermines the authority of the Federal Government.

The Armed Forces also reassured Nigerians that the situation is under control and that all actions taken so far are in line with military regulations and national interest.

Recall that, POLITICS NIGERIA had earlier reported the arrest of several officers in October 2025 following intelligence reports of an alleged plot to destabilize the Tinubu-led government.

At the time, the Defence Headquarters promised a thorough investigation, a process that has now been concluded with the submission of its findings.

  • Osun Speaker speaks on letter removing Ooni as Oba’s council permanent chairman

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has dismissed a letter said to be awaiting approval of the lawmakers, authorising rotational chairmanship for the Osun Council of Obas.

This was contained in a statement signed and released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu on Monday.

Egbedun said a Facebook account with the name ‘Ashiwaju Omo Yoruba’ had said the Assembly had received a letter concerning the rotation of chairmanship among traditional rulers in Osun State.

The lawmaker, who said, “Office of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly unequivocally dismisses as false and misleading the publication circulated by a pseudo Facebook page operating under the name ‘Ashiwaju Omo Yoruba,” insisted that he did not authorise any letter authorising rotational chairmanship among Osun Obas.

“At no time did the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Olumide Egbedun received or authorised any letter concerning the rotation of chairmanship among traditional rulers in Osun State, nor was any such matter presented or contemplated before the House or its Committee on Chieftaincy Matters.

“The claim is entirely fabricated and does not reflect the legislative activities or records of the Assembly. This pseudo Facebook page is clearly engaged in deliberate mischief, spreading unfounded information with the intent to mislead the public, provoke unnecessary tension, and undermine the credibility of the Osun State House of Assembly,” Egbedun said.

He said it was irresponsible to circulate a post that attempted to exploit sensitive traditional and cultural issues for ulterior motives, noting that “The Speaker strongly condemns this conduct and reiterates that the Assembly conducts its affairs strictly in line with constitutional provisions and established legislative procedures.”

He urged members of the public, particularly Osun people, to disregard the publication in its entirety, saying, “Only statements issued through the official and verified channels of the Osun State House of Assembly should be considered authentic.”

Clarifications by the Osun Assembly came at a time when the dust raised by the inauguration of the reconstituted Oyo State Council of Obas, which introduced rotational chairmanship, was yet to settle.

Governor Seyi Makinde inaugurated a new Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs in Ibadan, with the chairmanship set to rotate among three leading traditional rulers in the state.

The inauguration, which took place at the House of Chiefs Hall, State Secretariat, Ibadan, saw the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Arusa I, emerge as the inaugural chairman of the council for a two-year term.

However, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, one of the foremost monarchs in the state, was conspicuously absent from the event.

The inauguration followed the passage of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs (Further Amendments) Bill, 2025, by the Oyo State House of Assembly, a move aimed at strengthening traditional institutions in the state.
