‘Very limited barrage’ launched from Iran intercepted by defense systems, Israeli media reports

    Said Amori and Mohammad Sio

JERUSALEM:  Loud explosions were heard after an Iranian cluster missile was seen in the skies over Jerusalem on Saturday evening, according to an Anadolu correspondent.

Sirens sounded in central and southern Israel, and loud explosions were heard in Tel Aviv, the correspondent reported.

The Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported that a “very limited barrage” launched from Iran was “fully intercepted” by Israeli air defense systems, adding that the launches included a fragmentation missile.

Sirens warning of rocket and missile fire were activated across several areas, including central Israel, Gush Dan, Sharon, Lachish, Beka’a, Samaria, and Jerusalem, according to the daily.

A rocket and missile alert was activated in Moshav Avivim in the Upper Galilee, it added.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that it launched a new wave of missiles against Israel, according to Iranian media.

A man was injured by shrapnel in Kfar Yuval in the Galilee Panhandle in northern Israel, according to a preliminary report by Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service.

Iran began launching missiles and drones on Feb. 28 toward Israel and Gulf countries that host US military assets. Some of the strikes have caused casualties and damage to civilian sites, including ports and residential buildings.

Tehran says the attacks are in response to a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran that has killed hundreds of people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military officials.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP)/Flowerbudnews:  — A Bangladeshi man accused of using social media to trick teenage girls into sending him sexually explicit images — and then threatening to share them with their friends and family if they didn’t send more — has been transported to Alaska to face federal charges of child sexual exploitation.

Zobaidul Amin, 28, pleaded not guilty during an initial court appearance in Anchorage on Thursday after the FBI took custody of him in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he had been studying medicine and facing related charges, U.S. prosecutors wrote in a detention memorandum.

“Amin delighted in sexually abusing hundreds of minor victims over social media,” the document said. “He bragged about causing victims to become suicidal and engage in self-harm. He shared hundreds of nude images and videos of minor victims all over the internet and encouraged other perpetrators to do the same.”

A federal grand jury indicted Amin in 2022 on charges including child pornography, cyberstalking and wire fraud. He adopted false identities, often posing as a teenager, to trick victims into sending him explicit images, prosecutors said.

The investigation began when a 14-year-old Alaska girl reported her abuse to law enforcement, saying that after she had stopped communicating with him, he followed through on his threats by sending pornographic images of her to her friends and followers.

In executing dozens of search warrants and subpoenas, investigators eventually learned his identity and realized he had done similar things to hundreds of minor victims, prosecutors wrote. The only way to get him to stop demanding more images, Amin told the girls, was to recruit other victims, the document said.

“Because he was in Malaysia and his victims were primarily in the U.S., Amin viewed himself as untouchable by law enforcement,” prosecutors wrote. “In one conversation, he told a minor victim that the ‘cops won’t do anything,’ and the ‘cops won’t track me down because I live no where near u.’”

Efforts to extradite Amin to face charges failed, but with the assistance of the FBI, Malaysian authorities brought charges, the Justice Department said. He was released on bail during the proceedings, and eventually the U.S. succeeded in having him expelled from Malaysia. The FBI took him into custody and flew him to Alaska.

“The FBI’s commitment to protecting our children from exploitation doesn’t change whether an offender is here in the United States or overseas,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a news release.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Kyle Reardon on Thursday ordered that Amin remain in custody while his case proceeds.

    By Bassey Asuquo

The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) is convinced that federal government’s injection of N98 billion into primary healthcare centres across the country will go a long way to boost the delivery of primary healthcare to the people at the grassroots.

In a statement signed by its Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe, the group argued that the injection of funds into PHCs nationwide is proof that the President Bola Tinubu administration has not abandoned healthcare at the grassroots.

TMV said: “It is noted that in a bid to enhance productivity, security, and economic growth in the country, the federal government had disbursed the huge amount of money in 2025 to fast-track primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

“According to the information emanating from the federal government during the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Health Convention and Roundtable in Abuja, the investment is one of the largest single-year investments in grassroots health delivery in recent times.

“We applaud the move as it is expected to accommodate an additional 5,212 facilities and aimed at deepening access to quality healthcare in the rural areas and underserved communities of the country.

“There is no doubt that the funding is part of the Tinubu administration’s policy to reposition the health sector and make it a cornerstone of national development.

“We also note that due to the huge financial injection in the sector2,565 health centres have been upgraded while 1,456 primary health centres are currently undergoing renovation in the country”

The group is of the view that the deliberate policy by the federal government of providing funds for the upgrading of rural health institutions will go a long way to strengthen the local populace and make them more productive.

$1.3bn landmark FG/AFC Alumnia deal, transformative economic booster–TMV

    By Danladi Ahmed

The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has applauded the landmark deal sealed between the federal government and the Africa Finance Corporation to jointly fund three projects under a $1.3 billion alumina project.

The group said in a statement signed by its Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe that the project will expand and rejuvenate the solid minerals sector in the country.

“We note that the Memorandum of Understanding is the result of discussions between the Africa Finance Corporation and the Solid Minerals Development Fund to jointly fund the construction of a $1.3 billion alumina refinery that is meant to generate 1 million tonnes of bauxite ore per annum.

“It will also utilize a modern Bayer-process flowsheet with an on-site gas-fired cogeneration plant for steam and power.

“We are confident that the deal will transform the mining sector and increase its contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“From all indications this will be Nigeria’s largest private investment as well as a foreign direct investment that has the potential to contribute $1.2 billion to the country’s GDP yearly and over $25 billion to the national economy in its lifecycle, as well as $8 billion in foreign exchange earnings.

“It is also gratifying that the project will not only be competitive but will also be viable thereby helping to position Nigeria as a globally competitive solid minerals hub.

“We consider it as a true application of the federal government’s diversification programme,” it added.

The group is convinced that the deal will create more jobs and help in the revival of dormant mining sites across the country, with the attendant economic gains to the country.

Mainpower DisCo secures 20 years operating license in Enugu from EERC

The Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has secured a 20 years operating license from the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) to provide electricity services in Enugu State.

Issuing the license in Enugu to Mainpower, the Chief Executive Officer of EERC, Mr Chijioke Okonkwo, said that “Mainpower is officially the first SubCo to be issued operating license” in Enugu State.

Okonkwo noted that the feat was made possible by the visionary leadership of Gov. Peter Mbah, who initiated and articulated the Enugu State Electricity Policy 2023 and pushed the enactment of the Enugu State Electricity Law, 2023.

According to him, Enugu State electricity market development provides for multiple players across various aspects of the electricity value chain.

“We are engaging with potential fuel suppliers, generation companies, distribution, electricity retailing companies, metering and other service providers to take advantage of the opportunities in Enugu State electricity market.

“The Enugu State electricity market model and arrangement is built on a willing buyer – willing seller commercially-viable structure that is guided with effective contracts – bilateral agreements or power purchase agreements,” he said.

Okonkwo noted that the commission was on course to achieve its primary responsibility of ensuring that customers are provided with electricity services that are available, reliable and sustainable from operators, while ensuring profitability for service providers.

“As the dominant player in the Enugu State electricity market, a lot is expected of Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited in the development of the electricity market model.

“Some of these included: Develop and grow your business in alignment with Enugu State electricity market policy as well as evolve your business to accommodate other players and boost competition across service areas,” he said.

Receiving and securing the license, the Managing Director of Mainpower, Dr Ernest Mupwaya, appreciated the EERC and Gov. Mbah for the confidence placed on Mainpower through the issuance of the full licence covering 20 years.

Mupwaya noted that the establishment of EERC and licensing of MainPower demonstrate Enugu State’s commitment to building a more responsive, efficient and sustainable electricity market under the new framework created by the Electricity Act.

“The success of any electricity market is ultimately determined by the performance of distribution companies.

“For this reason, transformational efforts within distribution companies must be supported by all stakeholders.

“Regulators must provide clear and predictable frameworks. Governments must continue to support sector reforms. Investors must provide the capital required for infrastructure development.

“Customers must support the system through responsible consumption and payment for electricity services,” he said.

According to him, MainPower recognise its responsibility and will focus on improving network reliability, accelerating metering programmes to enhance transparency, strengthening revenue assurance, and embracing digital transformation to improve operational efficiency.

The managing director assured EERC that it would place strong emphasis on customer engagement, customer satisfaction and customer feedback “as electricity distribution is not only a technical business but also a service”.
