The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Offiong E. Offiong, has assured the University Community, Cross Riverians, and sports-loving Nigerians that the 28th NUGA Games (UNICAL 2026) will be a historic event.
He gave the assurance in his office when he received the Chief Executive of Builders Consultants Limited and UNICAL 2026 NUGA Games Consultant, Engineer Jorge Etibeng, and members of the University of Calabar Sports Council.
Professor Offiong expressed his joy that the University of Calabar is hosting the 28th event, which was last hosted in 1990 at its 13th edition, Guinness NUGA ’90, where he competed in judo, a statement by the Public Relations Unit of the University disclosed.
He hinted that his meeting with the consultant and the leadership of UNICAL Sports Council was to get an update on preparations and contribute to the rebirth of sports glory in the university.
The Unical NUGA Games Consultant, Engineer Jorge Etibeng informed the Vice Chancellor that preparations are at an advanced stage, with the engagement of Media Vision Limited as Sole Marketers yielding fruits.
He added that the construction of the Indoor Sports Hall and Tartan Track at Abraham Ordia Stadium will soon commence.
The Chairman of the University of Calabar Sports Council, Professor Lucas Ogunjimi, assured the Vice Chancellor that logistics for a successful NUGA Games are being put in place, including collaborations with relevant stakeholders.
The delegation included Professor Lucas Ogunjimi, Chairman , Unical Sports Council Board, Arc. James Ikpi, Director of Physical Planning, Dr. Edmond Odok, Director of Sports, and Pastor Alberto Osang, Executive Secretary, UNICAL Sports Council.
