BACSAAN National President, Alh. Fasasi Mohammed Jamiu, gave insight into the plan on Monday in Abuja at the Headquarters of the organisation while receiving a visiting delegation of artisans from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Alhaji Fasasi said that BACSAAN was determined to introduce Artisan Task Force (ATF), which would be patrolling major construction sites to ensure that the structures are built in accordance with the high standard often approved by relevant government agencies.

”Our members are the ones being engaged to mix building and construction materials at these sites, they are, therefore, the best to be deployed for monitoring and verification of building materials,” Alh. Fasasi stated.

”We plan to instruct all BACSAAN state offices to establish the Task Force immediately in conjunction with relevant security agencies to ensure that inferior and inadequate materials are no longer used in construction,” Fasasi told the visiting Artisans.

The BACSAAN National President said that, to ensure smooth and effective functioning of the BACSAAN Task Forces in FCT and the state level, the Association was strengthening its robust relationship with relevant stakeholders like the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for Registration of Engineers in Nigeria (COREN).

Alh. Fasasi said that BACSAAN had established relationship with the Police Authorities in FCT abd would instruct the state offices to visit Police State Commands to familiarise and brief the Commissioner of Police on the operational initiatives of BACSAAN.

He said that the Task Force would comprise highly experienced and versatile artisans in different aspects of construction and building projects.

Alhaji Fasasi lamented the frequency of preventable incidents of building collapses killing and maiming artisans and others. noting that they were generally often due to use of inadequate materials, structural defects and use of poor quality materials.
