The Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, on Friday, commended its Sokoto team for engaging over 100 women survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) on psycho-social engagement and self-esteem recovery activities.
The Executive Director of the foundation, Rev. Chukwudiebube Nwachukwu, told newsmen in Enugu that the foundation had pledged to intensify efforts with its stakeholders to ensure continuous engagements with individuals at various levels within communities.
According to Nwachukwu, over 100 women participated in the psycho-social engagement and self-esteem recovery activities conducted by the foundation’s team at the Women’s Development Centre, Ibrahim Dasuki Road, Sokoto, on Thursday.
“The Focal Person for the foundation in Sokoto State, Mallam Abubakar Yabo, told participants that the engagement was designed to provide services in stress management, anxiety, depression, free counseling, trauma and mental health support for GBV survivors.
“Yabo, who doubles as the foundation’s Programme Coordinator for North-West Zone, said that the team, comprising psychologists and mental health experts, enlightened the participants on stress management, emotional response and reaction to events and other relevant topics.
“The team also conducted free mental health assessments and counseling, providing necessary support to enhance understanding of triggers to mental health challenges and their adverse effects.
“Participants expressed their gratitude for the free psycho-social engagement offered by the foundation, which helped in rescuing them out of the psycho-sociological trauma associated with GBV written in their memories.
“Interactive question and answer sessions were conducted to gather feedback, which were coordinated by Mallam Kabiru Mahe; Peter Kolapo (Psychologists) and Khadija Raji (Psychologists),” he said.
It would be recalled that the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, which is operating in over 10 branches (states capitals) across the country, is a global mental health organisation.
The foundation is dedicated to mental health awareness and education, women’s health and hygiene advocacy, multi-sport activities, counseling, and other initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable development and societal progress.
