Oyo State Agency for People With Disabilities Commends OYOSUBEB for Inclusive Teachers’ Recruitment Exercise

By Adewale Owoade

The Director-General of Oyo State Agency for People With Disabilities, Barr. Ayodele Adekanmbi, has praised the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) for implementing an all-inclusive recruitment exercise for teachers.

Adekanmbi made this statement during a visit to OYOSUBEB in Ibadan to finalise arrangements for the upcoming interview exercise for people with disabilities.

The Board has scheduled interviews for applicants with disabilities on September 10-11 and caregivers on September 12-13, 2024.

Adekanmbi commended OYOSUBEB for providing accommodations for visually impaired candidates, including braille question papers and necessary tools, as well as arrangements for deaf and physically challenged candidates.

The inclusion of his agency in the recruitment process has promoted full participation and awareness of disability rights. Adekanmbi also acknowledged the state government’s achievements in disability inclusion, such as the passage of the State Disability Law.

A panel headed by Prof. Akolade from the University of Ibadan will conduct the interviews, assisted by sign language interpreters and wheelchair assistants. Candidates will be divided into three clusters: blind, deaf, and physically disabled.

OYOSUBEB Chairman, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, revealed that 545 candidates with disabilities will be interviewed.

He emphasised the Board’s commitment to implementing a reasonable employment quota for people living with disabilities, despite constraints like merit, gender, and local government spread.

Adeniran assured that the Board prioritizes persons with disabilities and has 22 Special basic schools across the state for them to teach.

The Engr. Seyi Makinde-led administration is committed to improving their lives without discrimination.

Also present at the meeting were the Executive Secretary of the Board, Mrs. Olaide Ladipo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Disabilities, Hon. Timothy Sunday, alongside top management members of the board.
