In a move aimed at enhancing the capacity of his personnel, the newly appointed Comptroller of Immigration, Illela border command CIS Tony Akuneme, has directed the immediate organization of a computer training session for all officers and men of the command.
The comptroller’s gesture is in line with the compulsory ICT training for all officers of the border in the ongoing electronic border gates being mounted in all the major borders across the country.
Akuneme said the training is designed to equip the personnel with the necessary digital skills to effectively discharge their duties in the modern border security landscape.
The PRO of the Command, DSI Abdullah Mohammed, stated that the training session will cover various aspects of computer literacy, including data analysis, online surveillance, and digital communication.
Muhammad added that with the development, officers and men of the Illela Border Command are expected to be more equipped to tackle the challenges of modern border security and contribute meaningfully to the ongoing border security reinvigoration nationwide.
He applauded the gesture of the commander saying that it is a strategic move to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Command in the face of increasing technological advancements in border security management.
Akuneme, who took over the leadership of the Command on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from CIS Ismaila Usman (rtd), has pledged to bring positive changes and policies that will impact the Command, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the border community.
Recall the minister of interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and the Comptroller General of immigration, Kemi Nandap, have taken bold steps to modernize border security in line with global tech practices.
