Acting in line with the directives of NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC Director, North West Zone (NWZ), Mrs. Josephine Dayilim led a

The NAFDAC Zonal Director warned that the illegal and dangerous practices of the operators of outfits, could pose serious health risks to the unsuspecting members of the general public.

Flowerbudnews further reports that different teams of the NAFDAC regulatory Operatives shut down / placed ” ‘on hold’, some of illegal outfits production lines in Kafanchan ofJema’a LGA, Kwoi LGA, Jaba LGA and in Zaria and kaduna metropolis of Kaduna State, during the surveillance activities.

Flowerbudnews learnt that, following an intelligence report received by the NAFDAC office in Kaduna, an unregistered petroleum jelly producing outlet was located, shutdown and packaging materials found in the premises were confiscated.

Speaking against the inimical conducts of the owners of the illegal outfits, the NAFDAC Zonal Director expressed dismay, wondering why some producers of NAFDAC regulated products refused to take advantage of ”the magnanimity of the Agency under the able leadership of the Director -General, Prof. Christianah Mojisola Adeyeye.”

She disclosed that NAFDAC DG, Prof. Adeyeye had approved waiver to all those having expired licenses to renew them without having to pay a late renewal fee before the 1st of April, 2024, as part of her efforts to assist the growth of the production outfits.

She said that the current NAFDAC leadership under Prof. Adeyeye ”is working hard to ensure that incentives are given to customers to ease some difficulties they are experiencing in their businesses.”

During the enforcement exercise six(6) illegal bakeries, two ( 2) sachet water producing and one (1) cosmetic product facilities had their production lines shut down/placed on hold for the different violations.

Flowerbudnews reports that different administrative charges were imposed on the defaulters ”to serve as a deterrent to others. ”

Mrs Dayilim warned others to ”desist from such dangerous acts, warning further: ”any one caught breaking the laws of the Agency will be sanctioned appropriately, as it is not relenting towards achieving her mandate of safe guarding public health.”

The Zonal Director advised members of the general public against patronizing unregistered and expired NAFDAC regulated products because of the potential health risks they pose to the public health.

She stated that possible hazards included kidney failure and loss of hearing etc for bread produced with potassium bromate.

Mrs Dayilim said that microbiologically contaminated drinking water can transmit diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid and people risk having cancer after prolonged exposure to dangerous chemicals in water. These could even lead to death, she said.

She urged Nigerians to always check for the NAFDAC Registration number, Batch no., MFD, BB date, direction for use, storage condition and other registration requirements before purchasing the products. (Flowerbudnews)
