Bandits who kidnapped more than 280 students in Kaduna last Thursday have issued a 20-day ultimatum for the students’ release, demanding a ransom of one billion naira. According to a report by CNN Africa, the gunmen conveyed this message through a phone call to Aminu Jibril, a resident of Kuriga village where the school is located.

Aminu Jibril recounted that the bandits contacted him from a hidden number, threatening to harm the students if their demands were not met.

He shared, “They called me from a hidden number yesterday afternoon at around 12:16 PM and demanded 1 billion naira as ransom for the students.

They specified that the ultimatum would only last for three weeks or 20 days from the date they kidnapped the children. If there’s no action from the government, they will kill all of them.”

Jibril further revealed that the bandits cited retaliation against the government and security agencies for the killing of their gang members as their motive for the kidnapping.
