The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has condemned the carting away of food items in warehouse and waylaying of food trucks across the country.

Dr Adamu Abdullahi, the Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, who made the condemnation in Abuja while speaking to newsmen at an event with consumer international, the such actions are dangerous signs for the nation.

Abdullahi, therefore, called for the abolition of trade market associations in order to stabilise the price of food in the markets.

He said that the country needs practical solutions using partnerships, and that the biggest challenge and failure of the government is not introducing anti-competitive policies before integrating the economy.

He explained that FCCPC does not regulate price of market goods but only advise the government on possible solutions to fair pricing and consumer rights.

The Project Specialist, Consumers International, Davine Minayo, called on FCCPC and other authorities to implement food price monitoring mechanism that can provide great transparency.

She called for a better management of food loss linked to supply chain.

A stakeholder, Prof. Chiso Ndukwe-Okafor, Executive Director of the Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF), berated the level of corruption in the subsidy level.

She also called for adequate storage facilities to reduce food wastage. (Flowerbudnews)
