How I was able to transform Igbo-Etiti LGA in one year – Chairman Dr Odo
The Chairman of Igbo Etiti Local Government Area, Dr Eric Odo, has said that he was able to transform the council within one year because Gov. Peter Mbah does not interfere in local government funds.
Odo stated this on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the sideline of a Mega Solitary Rally organised for Gov. Mbah of Enugu State at the council headquarters in Ogbede.
The council boss said the mega rally was to thank the governor for the good governance in the area, which he noted had transformed Igbo-Etiti for better.
“Today, the people of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area has reaffirmed their support to the re-election bid of Gov. Mbah, to enable him complete his second term in office,” he said.
Odo noted that the governor deserves to be re-elected because of his landmark achievements in office, arguing that re-electing the governor in 2027 would enable him to complete his laudable projects in the state.
He said his administration had adopted and implemented the governor’s development blueprint in the council area, saying he intends to leave Igbo-Etiti LGA better developed he met it.
The chairman revealed that his administration had  upgraded the Ogbede Cottage Hospital to provide secondary health care need to the people.
While describing the hospital as a game-changer worthy of replication nationwide, he pointed  out that the hospital had been equipped to handle different kinds of surgeries.
Odo emphasised that quarters had been built for doctors and nurses that would be working in the hospital, saying his administration was ready to pay a monthly salary of N1 million just to retain the doctors.
On security, the council boss said a lot of modern security gadgets and vehicles had been provided to the security agencies operating in the area, including neighbourhood watch, to rid Igbo-Etiti of criminal elements.
According to him, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is expected to commission NSCDC Area Command in Nkporogwu Ukehe as well as two Divisional Headquarters in Ohodo and Ekwegbe constructed by his administration.
The chairman reaffirmed his commitment to caring for widows, widowers, orphans, and persons with disabilities, describing them as the most vulnerable in society.
He disclosed that over 1,000 widows and vulnerable persons are currently on the council’s monthly payroll, while others have benefited from housing interventions, vocational support, and empowerment programmes.
“As I promised during my campaign, the poor will take the driver’s seat while the rich will take the back seat,” he said.
He listed other  achievements to include provision of water across the council with water galleries, empowerment of less privileged persons, provision of good security network, construction of roads among others.
Odo, a renowned surgeon, also vowed that his administration would sustain the Open Defecation Free (ODF) statues recently granted to the local government.
He also disclosed that his administration had  settle the age-long  boundary dispute between Ikolo and Aku communities in the local government.
