The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has kicked off its Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) without hitch in Enugu even as the commission put in water-tight measures to check double registration.

It would be recalled that INEC started its online CVR pre-registration on Aug. 18, 2025 and started its in-person full CVR registration on Aug. 25, 2025 nationwide.

Chief Rex Achumie, Head of Department (HOD), Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, told newsmen on Tuesday in Enugu that the in-person CVR had taken off smoothly without any “start-up challenge” experienced.

Achumie said that INEC had commenced full in-person registration at its state headquarters in Enugu and its council offices in the 17 Local Government Area secretariats within the state.

According to him, the ongoing exercise, which I know you witnessed at the hall, runs from Monday to Friday and between 9a.m. to 4p.m.

He noted that the unique thing about the ongoing exercise  “is that there is no room for double registration as the commission has blocked all such avenue”.

He said, “In the course of INEC publicity for the CVR, we told the public that it is only people that attained 18 years after our last general election.

“Or people who are already 18 years then but due to unfortunate circumstances they were unable to do their registration that should come forward.

“Another category of people, we are attending to are those that lost their voter cards, those with defaced voter cards, those with mistakes in their names, those seeking for relocation and change of unit.

“However, those seeking for other service rather than fresh CVR; they must provide existing cards, or swear an affidavit for a lost card and we will check their finger and facial bio-metrics in our system as well.”

The HOD called on the residents to embrace the CVR on time, adding that residents should form the habit of attending to “important national issues such as have valid and ready voter’s cards on time.”

“You should not wait for the rush time or few days to the end of the exercise to attend to your registration or voting card issues,” he said.

It takes an average of five minutes to complete a fresh CVR registration.
