In a powerful sermon delivered today at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Okoro Oke Itunu, Ibadan, Reverend S. A. Adeleke emphasized the importance of every Christian having a personal story of salvation. Drawing from biblical references, including Matthew 16:19 and Acts 9:1-5, the pastor called on the congregation to not only remember their moment of acceptance but also to share it proudly with others.
“Every believer should be able to articulate their journey to faith,” Reverend Adeleke urged. “It’s not about a specific date or a dramatic event; it’s about recognizing when you made the conscious choice to follow Jesus. If you cannot recount your salvation story, it raises questions about its authenticity.”
The Reverend spoke passionately about the significance of understanding and conveying one’s relationship with Christ, comparing the importance of this narrative to sharing significant life milestones, such as age. He challenged the congregation, saying, “If someone asks if you are born again, it should not provoke anger or discomfort; it is an important part of your identity.”
Reverend Adeleke also addressed common misconceptions, underscoring that baptism and salvation are distinct experiences. “Baptism is an outward demonstration of an inward change; the true story lies in how and when you decided to follow Christ,” he explained.
As he concluded, the pastor reassured the congregation, “Salvation isn’t about our works; it’s a gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We must embrace this gift and be ready to share our stories with the world.”
Through this heartfelt message, Reverend Adeleke encouraged his parishioners to reflect on their personal transformations and to boldly share the narrative of their faith journeys, fostering a sense of community and shared belief within the church.
