Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno North Senatorial District, distanced himself from the recent automatic endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket in the 2027 elections.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ndume highlighted that despite receiving endorsements from 22 governors, former President Goodluck Jonathan still faced defeat in the 2015 re-election.

As a member of the ruling APC, Ndume clarified that he was not part of the faction that endorsed the president for a second term. He emphasized that the true power of voting resides not with party members or leaders but with the electorate, who ultimately decide their leaders.

Addressing the current challenges facing Nigerians, Ndume pointed out the rising cost of living and ongoing insecurity, which he believes will significantly influence voter decisions in the upcoming polls.

He expressed concern over the bleak outlook many citizens have regarding the nation’s future, suggesting a pervasive sense of hopelessness.

“I hope that he would reflect on history and understand that endorsements do not guarantee success,” Ndume remarked. “Jonathan had 22 governors backing him, yet he lost decisively. Despite significant financial investments and even a postponed election, we seem to be ignoring the lessons of the past. I feel for Mr. President,” he added.
