The Progressive Students Movement (PSM), a Pan-African Students Movement, has passed a vote-of-confidence on Nigeria Police under leadership of Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Dr Kayode Egbetokun, for excellence in tracking criminal elements.

The President of PSM Nigeria, Amb. Bestman Okereafor, in a statement on Thursday in Enugu, said that the movement gave the vote-of-confidence after Egbetokun made it possible for the extradition of Benjamin Nnayereugo, popularly known as Killaboi, back to Nigeria.

According to Okereafor, the attention of the PSM Nigeria Chapter has been drawn to the successful extradition of Killaboi, from Doha, Qatar to Nigeria, by the Nigeria Police, to face prosecution for alleged murder of 21-year-old Miss Augusta Onuwabhagbe.

He said that Killaboi had been on the police wanted list for some years now after alleged gruesome murder of Miss Augusta Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The PSM boss said, “Information at our disposal shows the suspect (Killaboi) had been declared wanted by the police in October 2023, but  absconded out of the country.

“However following a very well coordinated efforts by the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja and Qatari judicial authorities; Killaboi was brought back to Nigeria in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025.

“In lieu of this, PSM is passing a vote-of-confidence on the Nigeria Police Force Under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police (I-G), Dr Kayode Egbetokun, for a job well done.

“This great achievement is inline with the reforms he has introduced to the Nigeria Police Force since assuming office, which is in  accordance with international best practices. We implore the general public to support his vision for a better Nigeria Police Force.”

Okereafor said that the PSM strongly believed that the extradition of Killaboi basically to face justice would reshape the image of  Nigeria among the committee of Nations.

He said that it would also serve as deterrent to other criminal elements who may seem to be above the law, or planning to wreck havoc in Nigeria and abscond.

“We commend the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, under the incorruptible leadership of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Olaolu Adegbite, a man of high reputation, professionalism and integrity.

“AIG Adegbite has successfully repositioned the INTERPOL NCB as top notch, considering his vast experience in managing Nigeria’s international policing collaborations which is already yielding multiple results.

“We call on the general public to support the Nigeria Police, the INTERPOL NCB and other relevant security agencies in further strengthening Nigeria’s efforts in combating domestic crime.

“They should also be supported to enhance the country’s collaborative efforts with international partners to effectively tackle transnational organised crime,” he said.

Okereafor said that the PSM was optimistic that INTERPOL in collaboration with other relevant agencies would clamp down on those behind Ponzi Schemes in the country and recover funds of Nigerians who had been deceived to invest their “hard earned” money.

He said that the movement also lauded the INTERPOL Annex Lagos under the Leadership of Commissioner of Police, Mr Olubode Ojajuni, for their hard work, professional conduct, dedication and proactiveness.

Okereafor said that INTERPOL Annex Lagos proactiveness was in line with the zero tolerance for corruption and injustice of the I-G.

According to him, PSM is glad that credible hands are handling critical units and formations in the Nigeria Police an indication that the future of our great country is bright.

“Fnally, we call on all security agents to go after criminal elements in the country especially in Benue, Plateau and other parts of country experiencing incessant attacks.

“We call on mischievous elements sponsoring and encouraging the attacks for political gains basically to paint the administration of President Bola Tinubu bad to desist from such evil act in the best interest of the country.

“Even as we are very optimistic and confident that they will be brought to justice soonest. And may President Tinubu succeed in office, Amen,” he added.
