The Civil Defense Officers’ Wife Association (CDOWA) has urged children to desist from keeping bad company and be focused on their studies in order to achieve a great and ambitious future.

The Chairperson of CDOWA in Enugu State, Dr Josephine Willie, made the call on Monday in Enugu in an Easter Children Party organised by CDOWA for children of officers and men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Enugu State Command.

Willie, who is the wife of the Commandant of NSCDC Enugu State Command, Dr Elijah Willie, also urged children to desist from drug abuse and wrong use of internet to maintain the right course in life and still remain focused on their ambitious.

She said, “You are all stars. You are players, not spectators. You are destined to make good things happen – not just to watch things happen.

“Please, make your parents proud. Be the influencer, not the one influenced negatively.

“We believe that within each of you lies the potential to become the next Dr Innocent Chukwuma, Founder of Innoson Motors; Dr Micheal Olawale, renowned for his work in cancer treatment; Prof. Aisha Ali-Gombe, a cyber security expert and Mark Zuckerberg, Founder of Facebook.”

The chairperson also encouraged parents to do their best in providing
good parenting, socioeconomic and educational support to children to bring out the best in them.

Speaking, the Commandant of NSCDC Enugu State Command, Dr Elijah Willie, said that the Command had improved its operations on safe schools initiative through increased plainclothes and armed uniform officers patrols in schools in the state.

The commandant also said that the NSCDC had been in the fore-front of ensuring that children, teachers and non-teaching administrator within schools in Enugu State remain safe.

“I recently dedicated a hilux van for continuous patrol of schools and an emergency alert work station on Safe School Initiative in the state,” he said.

The commandant appealed to residents to give actionable intelligence to the NSCDC for the Corps to be proactive and nip crime and criminality in the bud, adding that the people needed to assist and closely work with the personnel of the Corps.

The event featured lecture on security tips for children both at school and home as well as Biblical and current affairs quiz and games.
