The altercation between the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and the Senator representing Kogi Central senatorial district, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has moved to the courts for judicial adjudication.
This followed a N100 billion suit instituted by Senator Akpoyi-Uduaghan legal against Senator Akpabio over alleged defamation through his agents that accused her of nude dressing to the Senate chambers.
This followed a N100 billion suit instituted by Senator Akpoyi-Uduaghan legal against Senator Akpabio over alleged defamation through his agents that accused her of nude dressing to the Senate chambers.
The lawsuit has clearly opened a new vista over some unclear political undertones between Senators Akpabio and Natasha particularly against the backdrop of the face-off between the duo on the floor of the plenary last week.
The suit by Natasha against Akpabio, which has been filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, has given a new dimension to the political saga with intense debates about sexual misconduct in Nigeria’s political landscape.
It was gathered that Natasha plans to go a step further by ensuring that Akpabio is further exposed with regards to his alleged years of harassment, which Natasha is insisting has caused her serious and severe emotional and reputational damage thereby demanding substantial compensation for these alleged wrongs.
A statement of claim by Senator Natasha which was cited by Forefront News stated that the agents of Senator Akpabio caused to be published defamatory words to the effect that “She thinks being a lawmaker is all about pancaking her face and wearing transparent outfits to the chambers”.
With the legal battle between Natasha and Akpabio, political observers and events watchers are of the view that the development may turn sour more either way and possibly escalate beyond the ordinary even as some legislators said it may also change the political dynamics in the Senate.
The outcome may also reshape conversation around harassment and abuse of authority in government institutions.
