Ikorodu (Lagos State), Oct.17, 2024 The Ikorodu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) women group, with the German Chamber and Association Partnership Project (KVP), on Thursday trained 70 female operators of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Ikorodu.

The KVP women in business training series had the theme ”Navigating Legal and Regulatory Issues: Understanding Business Regulations, Legal compliance, and Securing Necessary Permits”.

Speaking at the training, Mr Olutele Oduloye, President of ICCI, urged women organisations to advocate for more involvement of females in business, to boost their productivity as good managers in the society.

Oduloye advised the women entrepreneurs to register their businesses to access benefits from government and international donors.

“This kind of training will enlighten them more on best practices to enhance their business ideas.

“They should register their businesses to access different kinds of benefits from government and individuals,” he said.

Earlier in her address, Dr Kirsten Albrecht, KVP Project Director, said the training was organised to teach entrepreneurs what they needed to know to ensure success in their businesses.

Albrecht said that the training was essential to also enlighten them on the regulations governing their businesses, hindrances, and foundation training that would give them idea and creativity to excel.

She advised the chamber to engage in advocacy to attract more women, so that they could have a better business environment, abreast with rules and regulations governing their businesses.

“The more members the chamber has, the stronger their voice towards government and doing better in their business.

“The chamber can organise training and consultancy like this to help other women entrepreneurs do better.

“I think this idea can impact positively and make Nigeria’s economy to be diversified; when the economy is diversified, it becomes stronger,” she said.

Similarly, Mrs Helen Tabunor-Ogedegbe, bilingual consultant, called on government to tackle multiple taxation, to encourage more women entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

Tabunor-Ogedegbe urged members to properly regulate their businesses and register to have access to different opportunities.

She advised government to identify with women chambers of commerce and other women organisations.

In her remarks, Mrs Stella Akande, Coordinator of KVP Project in Ikorodu, said that the training had enlightened entrepreneurs on the importance of registering their businesses with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and taxation.

“Those people are toying with taxes, know that paying tax is very important; even if producing and not making profit, they need to file.

“They have knowledge now on how to pay their tax as and when due to avoid penalty.

“When you join the chamber, you will have access to loans and grants; we help members develop their products to standard for exportation and many other benefits,” she said.
