A group, under the auspices of Concerned Indigenes of Bauchi State (CIBS), on Thursday, staged a peaceful protest in Abuja against the Bauchi State Government over allegations bordering on misappropriation of funds and increasing insecurity in the state.
The protesters carried different placards with inscriptions such as “Killings of Innocent Citizens,” Bauchi State is Bleeding,” “You Must Go,” “Kaura Must Go,” “Nairas are Withdrawn Through Proxies Without Justification,” among others.
They matched from Eagle Square to the National Assembly’s main gate to press home their demands.
They equally went to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s Headquarters to submit a petition against the Bauchi State government.
The coordinator of the group, Suleiman Mohammed, while speaking with newsmen, said the group was in Abuja because all their complaints had remained unanswered.
“We are here to pass the message across to the nation that innocent souls are being killed in Bauchi State and money is being misappropriated,” he said.
On why the group did not approach the state’s house of assembly with their grievances, Mohammed alleged that the security agencies in the state were not doing enough in their campaign against the allegations.
“So we decided to come to the centre of the nation so that we can pass the message across so that people can hear and see what is going on so that they can come to our rescue,” he said.
Mohammed said they were also at the EFCC’s office as a follow-up to the earlier petition submitted recently.
“We are here in the commission again where a petition was submitted against the Bauchi State governor last two weeks and nothing has been done.
“We are here to complain to the commission again. We want to know what is being done about the looting and killings of innocent souls in Bauchi State,” he alleged.
The coordinator, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to come to their aid.
